    The role of secondary Reggeons in central meson production

    Glueball enhancements in p(gamma,VV)p through vector meson dominance

    Double vector meson photoproduction, p(gamma, G -> VV)p, mediated by a scalar glueball G is investigated. Using vector meson dominance (VMD) and Regge/pomeron phenomenology, a measureable glueball enhancement is predicted in the invariant VV = rho rho and omega omega mass spectra. The scalar glueball is assumed to be the lightest physical state on the daughter pomeron trajectory governing diffractive vector meson photoproduction. In addition to cross sections, calculations for hadronic and electromagnetic glueball decays, G -> V V' (V,V'= rho, omega, phi, gamma), and gamma_v V -> G transition form factors are presented based upon flavor universality, VMD and phenomenological couplings from phi photoproduction analyses. The predicted glueball decay widths are similar to an independent theoretical study. A novel signature for glueball detection is also discussed

    QCD Tests of the Puzzling Scalar Mesons

    Motivated by several recent data, we test the QCD spectral sum rules (QSSR) predictions based on different proposals (\bar qq, \bar q\bar q qq, and gluonium) for the nature of scalar mesons. In the I=1 and 1/2 channels, the unusual (wrong) splitting between the a_0(980) and \kappa(900) and the a_0(980) width can be understood from QSSR within a \bar qq assignement. However, none of the \bar qq and \bar q\bar q qq results can explain the large \kappa width, which may suggest that it can result from a strong interference with non-resonant backgrounds. In the I=0 channel, QSSR and some low-energy theorems (LET) require the existence of a low mass gluonium \sigma_B(1 GeV) coupled strongly to Goldstone boson pairs which plays in the U(1)_V channel, a similar role than the \eta' for the value of the U(1)_A topological charge. The observed \sigma(600) and f_0(980) mesons result from a maximal mixing between the gluonium \sigma_B and \bar qq(1 GeV) mesons, a mixing scheme which passes several experimental tests. OZI violating J/\psi--> \phi\pi^+\pi^-, D_s--> 3\pi decays and J/\psi--> \gamma S glueball filter processes may indicate that most of the I=0 mesons above 1 GeV have important gluonium in their wave functions. We expect that the f_0(1500), f_0(1710) and f_0(1790) have significant gluonium component in their wave functions, while the f_0(1370) is mostly \bar qq. Tests of these results can be provided by the measurements of the pure gluonium \eta'\eta and 4\pi specific U(1)_A decay channels.Comment: Version to appear in Phys. Rev.     Mass Predictions for Pseudoscalar JPC=0+J^{PC}=0^{-+} Charmonium and Bottomonium Hybrids in QCD Sum-Rules

    Masses of the pseudoscalar (JPC=0+)(J^{PC}=0^{-+}) charmonium and bottomonium hybrids are determined using QCD Laplace sum-rules. The effects of the dimension-six gluon condensate are included in our analysis and result in a stable sum-rule analysis, whereas previous studies of these states were unable to optimize mass predictions. The pseudoscalar charmonium hybrid is predicted to have a mass of approximately 3.8 GeV and the corresponding bottomonium prediction is 10.6 GeV. Calculating the full correlation function, rather than only the imaginary part, is shown to be necessary for accurate formulation of the sum-rules.     Nuclear Shadowing in a Parton Recombination Model

    Deep inelastic structure functions F2A(x)F_2^A(x) are investigated in a Q2Q^2 rescaling model with parton recombination effects. We find that the model can explain experimentally measured F2A(x)F_2^A(x) structure functions reasonably well in the wide Bjorkenx-x range (0.005<x<0.80.005<x<0.8).     Towards a Relativistic Description of Exotic Meson Decays

    This work analyses hadronic decays of exotic mesons, with a focus on the lightest one, the JPC=1+J^{PC}=1^{-+} π1\pi_{1}, in a fully relativistic formalism, and makes comparisons with non-relativistic results. We also discuss Coulomb gauge decays of normal mesons that proceed through their hybrid components. The relativistic spin wave functions of mesons and hybrids are constructed based on unitary representations of the Lorentz group. The radial wave functions are obtained from phenomenological considerations of the mass operator. Fully relativistic results (with Wigner rotations) differ significantly from non-relativistic ones. We also find that the decay channels π1πb1,πf1,KK1\pi_{1}\to\pi b_{1}, \pi f_{1}, KK_{1} are favored, in agreement with results obtained using other models.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

    The Threshold Pion-Photoproduction of Nucleons In The Chiral Quark Model

    In this paper, we show that the low energy theorem (LET) of the threshold pion-photoproduction can be fully recovered in the quark model. An essential result of this investigation is that the quark-pion operators are obtained from the effective chiral Lagrangian, and the low energy theorem does not require the constraints on the internal structures of the nucleon. The pseudoscalar quark-pion coupling generates an additional term at order μ=mπ/M\mu=m_{\pi}/M only in the isospin amplitude A()A^{(-)}. The role of the transitions between the nucleon and the resonance P33(1232)P_{33}(1232) and P-wave baryons are also discussed, we find that the leading contributions to the isospin amplitudes at O(μ2)O(\mu^2) are from the transition between the P-wave baryons and the nucleon and the charge radius of the nucleon. The leading contribution from the P-wave baryons only affects the neutral pion production, and improve the agreement with data significantly. The transition between the resonance P33(1232)P_{33}(1232) and the nucleon only gives an order μ3\mu^3 corrections to A()A^{(-)}

    Indoor Carbon Monoxide: A Case Study in England for Detection and Interventions to Reduce Population Exposure

    Background. Potential exposure to carbon monoxide (CO) in private homes is largely unquantified. Aim. To estimate prevalence of potential exposure to CO in residential dwellings and describe associated interventions in an inner-city community. Methods. A housing association in London, Hackney Homes, began fitting CO alarms in the 22,831 local authority homes it is responsible for in January 2010. A gas engineer investigated each alarm activation and recorded the information on a standard form. We undertook a cross-sectional study of all 22,831 homes, using data from these forms. Descriptive analysis was performed, including incidence, monthly variation, cause of alarm activation, and actions taken. Results. Between November 2011 and April 2012, 106 incidents were reported. Of these, 34.6% identified an issue with a gas appliance, and 10.6% identified misuse of cooking methods as the cause of activation. Relevant interventions were put in place, including disconnection of the gas appliance and education around cooking methods. Discussion. Little is known about the burden of CO poisoning in residential dwellings. This study provides important information on the path to quantifying population exposure to CO as well as establishing a possible approach to access this key information and realistic interventions to reduce potential exposure
