    Pada penelitian uji coba paket penanggulangan gizi buruk yang dilakukan oleh tenaga pelaksana gizi di enam puskesmas terpilih, tercatat 83 anak Balita kurang energi protein yang berobat jalan ke puskesmas yang dapat diamati Perubahan keadaan gizi dan kesehatan. Setelah mengikuti kegiatan pemulihan di puskesmas selama enam bulan ternyata terdapat Perubahan keadaan gizi anak Balita dari 83 anak, 35 anak (42.2%) mengalami perbaikan keadaan gizi, dengan 4 anak (4.82%) menjadi keadaan gizi baik. 44 anak (53.0%) tidak mengalami Perubahan keadaan gizi dan 4 anak (4.8%) mengalami penurunan keadaan gizi. Dari 83 anak Balita tersebut yang berkunjung ke puskesmas ternyata lebih banyak disertai penyakit. Jenis penyakit yang banyak diderita adalah infeksi saluran pernapasan (55.5%), penyakit kulit 20.5%, infeksi saluran pernapasan atas disertai diare 20.5% dan diare 7.3%

    Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai status gizi, kesehatan dan immunisasi anak Balita pengunjung dan bukan pengunjung posyandu di dua desa wilayak kerja Puskesmas Sindangbarang, yaitu desa Sindangbarang yang terlatak dekat dengan Puskesmas dan banyak fasilitas kesehatan lainnya, serta kemudahan transportasi, dan desa Bubulak yang letaknya jauh dari Puskesmas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan Posyandu di desa Singdangbarang (77.4%) lebih rendah daripada di desa Bubulak (80.1%). Hal ini mungkin karena adanya fasilitas kesehatan lainnya maupun kemudahan transportasi. Gambaran status gizi, kesehatan dan immunisasi anak Balita secara keseluruhan di kedua desa memperlihatkan keadaan yang hampir sama. Tetapi bila dilihat per kelompok berdasarkan frekuensi kehadiran anak Balita ke Posyandu di kedua desa, ternyata frekuensi kehadiran anak Balita hanya berpengaruh nyata terhadap status immunisasi. Anak yang lebihs ering ke Posyandu mempunyai status immunisasi yang lebih baik

    Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang Khasiat Jamu Tambah Darah terhadap status besi dan status anemia pekerja wanita di duaa pabrik tekstil dan satu pabrik bola lampu di Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Subyek teerdiri dari tiga kelompok: 100 orang pengguna jamu tambah darah (TD), 98 orang pengguna jamu lain (JL), dan 97 orang bukan pengguna jamu sebagai kelompok kontrol (K). Keadaan sosial ekonomi dan konsumsi makanan tidak berbeda nyata antar kelompok. Demikian pula rata-rata berat badan dan tinggi badan antar kelompok subyek. Rata-rata kadar Hb masing-masing kelompok berturut-turut 12.4, 11.9 g dan 12.1 g/dl, untuk kelompok TD, JL dan K; perbedaan ini tidak berbeda nyata secara statistik. Pada kelompok TD, JL dan K terdapat masng-masing 12.0%, 16.5% dan 16.5% subyek yang berstatus feritin rendah. Rata-rata kadar besi serum, berturut-turut 72.2 ug, 70.1 ug dan 64.7 ug/dl masing-masing untuk kelompok TD, JL dan K. Rata-rata kadar besi serum kelompok TD berbeda nyata dengan kelompok JL maupun K; tetapi tidak berbeda nyata antara kelompok JL dengan kelompok K. Subyek yang berstatus besi rendah masing-masing 14.4%, 21.1% dan 26.6% pada kelompok TD, JL dan K yang berbeda nyata hanya antar kelompok TD dan K. Mengkonsumsi jamu tambah darah dapat mengangkat kadar HB dan status anemia, tetapi belum menunjukkan dampak yang nyata terhadap penurunan anemia

    Effectiveness of High Dose Vitamin A Supplementation on The Recovery Rate and Immune Status of Underfive Children Suffering From Tuberculosis.Tuberculosis (TB), the infectious disease, is still one of the health problems in Indonesia. TB does not just make the people sick physically, but also interfere the immunity. As we have known that vitamin A can improve the immunity. The aimed of this randomized double blind study was to know the effect of high dose vitamin A on the improvement, immune status and the relationship between vitamin A and immune status in TB. Sixtyfive underfive children were selected from the Pediatrics Wards for out patient in Salak and Clsarua Hospital. They were grouped into 11 treatment group who received standard regimen therapy for TB plus high dose vitamin A in each month for 6 months and 21 control group who received the same TB regimen plus placebo also in each month for 6 months. Data on physical examination, weight, height, hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Ht), blood sedimen rate (BSR), serum vitamin A, immunoglobulin G (IgG) to TB, chest X ray (CXR) and food consumption were collected before and after (6 months) intervention. Information on morbidity and socioeconomic also were recorded. To evaluate the degree of improvement, score on nutritional status, BSR and CXR were made. The results showed that after 6 month there were improvement in anthropometry status, morbidity rate, Hb, Ht, BSR, IgG and CXR for both groups. The treatment group was improved in 7.2% subjects meanwhile the control group was improved in 58% subjects. Analysis for scoring improvement showed that the treatment group had better improvement 2,4 times than the control group. The conclusions are that the high dose vitamin A has a positive effect on the recovery and immune status of underfive children suffering TB. This study suggests to give high dose vitamin A to the regimen therapy for TB in children to get better results

    THE EFFECT OF IRON PILL SUPPLEMENTATION ADDED WITH VITAMIN E (ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL) TO HEMOGLOBIN AND IRON STATUS OF CHILDBEARING AGE WOMEN SUSPECTED SUFFERING FROM CARRIER THALASSEMIA.Background: Anemia control programme among pregnant women had been conducting for about three decades, but prevalence of anemia still considered high. It was reported by Nutrition and Food Research Centre (2000) that 37.4% of childbearing women indicated fragility of red blood cell membrane wich assumed related to anemia. One of the vitamins which have positive effect to the wall of red blood cells is vitamin E through its rolle as antioxidant. It was recommended to conduct a study to determine the effect of supplementation of iron pill, "Ferro sulfate" (60 mg elemental iron with 25 mg folic acid) added with vitamin E (20 mg a-tocopherol) to hemoglobin level and iron status of childbearing age of women.Methods: The study design was "Intervention with quacy experiment trial". The study sites covered 10 villages in Cianjur district of West Java. A total of 210 childbearing age women (19-45 years old) with indication of fragility of red blood cell membrane which was determined by procedure of NESTROF (Naked Eye Single Test Tube Red Cell Osmotic Fragility), divided into two groups (105 women/group). Group I received one iron pill daily and vitamin E twice a week for 10 weeks. While group II received Iron pill only, without vitamin E. Data collection was conducted before and after intervention.Results: After 10 weeks intervention, the average of Hb increament of group I (0.4 g/dl) was slightly higher than that of group II (0.3 g/dl). There was improvement of serum ferritin of both groups with increament 4.3 mg/dl for group I and 7.2 mg/dl for group II. Vitamin E status of both groups still considered low: 3.1 mg/L for group I and 3.1 mg/L for group II. Normal value of serum vitamin E is 5.0 mg/L.Conclusions: Vitamin E (20 mg of a-tocopherol) which was given twice a week bisides daily supplementation of iron pill (60 mg elemental iron of sulfas ferrosus + 25 mg folic acid) for 10 weeks increased the effectiveness of Hb synthesis 1.5 times than that of supplementation of iron only without vitamin E
