The , , and decays in the perturbative QCD approach
Two-body non-leptonic charmed decays , ,
and are analyzed in perturbative QCD approach, where
and denote the light pseudoscalar meson and vector meson, respectively.
We test the meson wave function by a fit with experimental data of
six channels. We give the branching ratios of all the charmed B decay
channels, most of which agree with experiments amazingly well. The predicted
decays can be confronted with the future experimental data. By
straightforward calculations, our pQCD approach gives the right relative strong
phase of with experiments. We also predict the percentage of
transverse polarizations in decay channels.Comment: 25 pages, 4 figure
A reduction of the resonant three-wave interaction to the generic sixth Painleve' equation
Among the reductions of the resonant three-wave interaction system to
six-dimensional differential systems, one of them has been specifically
mentioned as being linked to the generic sixth Painleve' equation P6. We derive
this link explicitly, and we establish the connection to a three-degree of

Hard Interactions of Quarks and Gluons: a Primer for LHC Physics
In this review article, we develop the perturbative framework for the
calculation of hard scattering processes. We undertake to provide both a
reasonably rigorous development of the formalism of hard scattering of quarks
and gluons as well as an intuitive understanding of the physics behind the
scattering. We emphasize the importance of logarithmic corrections as well as
power counting of the strong coupling constant in order to understand the
behavior of hard scattering processes. We include "rules of thumb" as well as
"official recommendations", and where possible seek to dispel some myths.
Experiences that have been gained at the Fermilab Tevatron are recounted and,

Rare B decays and Tevatron top-pair asymmetry
The recent Tevatron result on the top quark forward-backward asymmetry, which
deviates from its standard model prediction by 3.4, has prompted many
authors to build new models to account for this anomaly. Among the various
proposals, we find that those mechanisms which produce via - or
-channel can have a strong correlation to the rare B decays. We demonstrate
this link by studying a model with a new charged gauge boson, . In terms of
the current measurements on decays, we conclude that the branching
ratio for is affected most by the new effects.
Furthermore, using the world average branching ratio for the exclusive B decays
at level, we discuss the allowed values for the new parameters.
Finally, we point out that the influence of the new physics effects on the

Novel B19-like parvovirus in the brain of a harbor seal
Using random PCR in combination with next-generation sequencing, a novel parvovirus was detected in the brain of a young harbor seal (Phoca vitulina) with chronic non-suppurative meningo-encephalitis that was rehabilitated at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre (SRRC) in the Netherlands. In addition, two novel viruses belonging to the family Anelloviridae were detected in the lungs of this animal. Phylogenetic analysis of the coding sequence of the novel parvovirus, tentatively called Seal parvovirus, indicated that this virus belonged to the genus Erythrovirus , to which human parvovirus B19 also belongs. Although no other seals with similar signs were rehabilitated in SRRC in recent years, a prevalence study of tissues of seals from the same area collected in the period 2008-2012 indicated that the Seal parvovirus has circulated in the

An evolutionary divergent pestivirus lacking the Npro gene systemically infects a whale species
Pestiviruses typically infect members of the order Artiodactyla, including ruminants and pigs, although putative rat and bat pestiviruses have also been described. In the present study, we identified and characterized an evolutionary divergent pestivirus in the toothed whale species, harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena). We tentatively named the virus Phocoena pestivirus (PhoPeV). PhoPeV displays a typical pestivirus genome organization except for the unique absence of Npro, an N-terminal autoprotease that targets the innate host immune response. Evolutionary evidence indicates that PhoPeV emerged following an interspecies transmission event from an ancestral pestivirus that expressed Npro. We show that 9% (n = 10) of stranded porpoises from the Dutch North Sea coast (n = 112) were positive for PhoPeV and they displayed a systemic infection reminiscent of non-cytopathogenic persistent pestivirus infection. The identification of PhoPeV extends the host range of pestiviruses to cetaceans (dolphins, whales, porpoises), which are considered to have evolved from artiodactyls (even-toed ungulates). Elucidation of the pathophysiology of PhoPeV infection and Npro unique absence will add to our understanding of molecular mechanisms governing pestivirus pathogenesis
