Electro-optic Q-switch
An electro-optic Q-switch for generating sequence of laser pulses was disclosed. The Q-switch comprises a quadratic electro-optic material and is connected with an electronic unit generating a radio frequency wave with positive and negative pulses alternatively. The Q-switch is controlled by the radio frequency wave in such a way that laser pulse is generated when the radio frequency wave changes its polarity
A normal-pressure MWPC for beam diagnostics at RIBLL2
A normal pressure MWPC for beam diagnostics at RIBLL2 has been developed,
which has a sensitive area of 80 mm80 mm and consists of three-layer
wire planes. The anode plane is designed with a wider frame to reduce the
discharge and without using protection wires. The detector has been tested with
a Fe X-ray source and a 200 MeV/u C beam from CSRm. A position
resolution better than 250 \upmum along the anode wires and a detection
efficiency higher than 90% have been achieved.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Extracting the differential phase in dual atom interferometers by modulating magnetic fields
We present a new scheme for measuring the differential phase in dual atom
interferometers. The magnetic field is modulated in one interferometer, and the
differential phase can be extracted without measuring the amplitude of the
magnetic field by combining the ellipse and linear fitting methods. The gravity
gradient measurements are discussed based on dual atom interferometers.
Numerical simulation shows that the systematic error of the differential phase
measurement is largely decreased when the duration of the magnetic field is
symmetrically modulated. This combined fitting scheme has a high accuracy for
measuring an arbitrary differential phase in dual atom interferometers.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Manipulating Multiple Order Parameters via Oxygen Vacancies: The case of Eu0.5Ba0.5TiO3-{\delta}
Controlling functionalities, such as magnetism or ferroelectricity, by means
of oxygen vacancies (VO) is a key issue for the future development of
transition metal oxides. Progress in this field is currently addressed through
VO variations and their impact on mainly one order parameter. Here we reveal a
new mechanism for tuning both magnetism and ferroelectricity simultaneously by
using VO. Combined experimental and density-functional theory studies of
Eu0.5Ba0.5TiO3-{\delta}, we demonstrate that oxygen vacancies create Ti3+ 3d1
defect states, mediating the ferromagnetic coupling between the localized Eu
4f7 spins, and increase an off-center displacement of Ti ions, enhancing the
ferroelectric Curie temperature. The dual function of Ti sites also promises a
magnetoelectric coupling in the Eu0.5Ba0.5TiO3-{\delta}.Comment: Accepted by Physical Review B, 201
The superiority effect in Albanian multiple wh-movement structures
This study examines the order of wh-phrases in Albanian multiple wh-questions. Despite SVO and OVS orders, I argue that Albanian wh-movement displays the superiority effect, through a mechanism generating a rightmost highest specifier. OVS order constructions are subject to the haplology effect and word order freezing, showing the presence of a multiple wh-fronting step in the derivation. The study highlights a general observation concerning opacity and the cross-linguistic wh-question environment. Linear order does not reveal hierarchical structure, as a typically leftmost wh-phrase is pronounced rightmost. This rightward wh-movement analysis may explain future findings of languages claimed to not display the superiority effect
