    : Cigarette smoke causes oxidative stress which impact on the quality of spermatozoa. Xanthones in mangosteen rind extract acts as an antioxidant to neutralize free radicals as resistance to oxidative stress. This study aimed to determine the effect of mangosteen rind extract to the quality of spermatozoa of wistar rats that are exposed to cigarette smoke. This research is an experimental approach to post-test only control group design. Samples were 9 wistar rats divided 3 groups: The control group was given exposure to cigarette smoke 1 cigarettes/day, treatment group 1 was given exposure to cigarette smoke 1 cigarettes/day and extract mangosteen rind 10 mg/kg/day, treatment group 2 1 given exposure to cigarette smoke cigarettes/day and mangosteen peel extract 20 mg/kg/day. The treatment was done for 50 days. The result showed that treatment 1 and treatment 2 shows the improvement of the quality of spermatozoa with an average concentration (85.7×105/ml and 76.6×105/ml), average percentage of normal motility (76.76% and 85%), and average percentage of normal morphology (90% and 98.67%). Conclusion: mangosteen rind extract can improve the quality of spermatozoa (concentration and motility) of wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) that are exposed to cigarette smoke

    : Transflutrin (C15H12CL2F4O2) is an active substance, a derivative of pyrethroid compounds found in electric mosquito repellent. Previous studies showed that group of pyrethroid insecticides can play a role in causing histological changes in testes, decreased testicular weight and reducing diameter of seminiferous tubules. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of wistar male sperm that are exposed to electric mosquito repellent with transflutrin as active ingredients. This study is experimental with completely randomized design, conducted for 52 days by using eight wistar which consists of two wistar as controls P0, 3 wistar with exposure to electric insect repellent for 8 hours/day (P1), and 3 other wistar for 12 hours/day (P2). The results of this study, the concentration of spermatozoa in the treatment group P1 and P2 respectively at 54.17 x 106 spermatozoa/ml and 45.5 x 106 spermatozoa / ml, in the control group P0 of 59.25 x 106 spermatozoa/ml. Abnormal sperm motility in P1 and P2 is 40% and 35%, at P0 is 45%. Morphologically normal spermatozoa in P1 and P2 is 49% and 78%. It can be concluded that exposure to electric mosquito repellent with transflutrin as active ingredients causes a decrease in sperm quality

    : Light is an initiator of free radical oxygen formation inter alia reactive oxygen species (ROS) that increases the oxidative stress. Free radicals can be controlled and prevents by the antioxidant. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can neutralize the free radical. This study aimed to obtain the effects of vitamin C on spermatozoa quality of wistar rats after light exposure. Subjects were male rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were exposed to light and then divided into three groups: control group (without vitamin C administration), treatment group 1 (treated with vitamin C 1.8 mg/day/rat), and treatment group 2 (treated with of vitamin C 3.6 mg/day/rat) for 50 days. The results showed a significant improvement in the quality of wistar spermatozoa (concentration, motility, and morphology) after treated with vitamin C and exposed to light

    : Alcohol is an organic compound that is composed of the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Usually, the term of alcohol is known as liquor. One of the local products of liquor in Manado is Cap Tikus. This study aims to determine the effect of alcohol 20% on the spermatozoa quality of male Wistar (Rattus norvegicus). The research design was a completely randomized experimental design. The samples were 10 male wistar rats which consisted of 5 rats as a control group and 5 rats as the experiment group. The rats in the experiment group were given Cap Tikus for 52 days, while rats in the control group were given tap water. The results showed that spermatozoa quality from experiment group which includes the concentration of spermatozoa is 24x106 spermatozoa/ml, normal motility of spermatozoa is 23,5% and normal morphology of spermatozoa is 11%. Whereas spermatozoa quality from control group which includes the concentration of spermatozoa is59x106 spermatozoa/ml, normal motility of spermatozoa is 89% and normal morphology of spermatozoa is 97%. Conclusion: Cap Tikus decreased the spermatozoa quality which includes concentration, motility and morphology of spermatozoa. This was due to alcohol interfered the hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary gland and the testes that played an important role in the process of spermatogenesis

    : Consumption of alcoholic beverages in the world led to the deaths of more than 3.3 million people every year, or 5.9% of all deaths, if not preventable, the number of deaths will increase annually in line with the increasing number of drinkers. A smoker who consumes alcoholic beverages can cause a variety of health problems, one of which is erectile dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to find the effect of consumption of alcoholic beverages to the erectile dysfunction in smoker drivers. This study is an analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The study was conducted in Karombasan Public Transport Terminal from October 2015 to January 2016, with a population of 60 smoker drivers. The sampling of this study uses purposive sampling method to determine which sample meets the criteria. The number of samples obtained is 48 people. Erectile function was assessed using IIEF questionnaire (International Index of Erectile Function). This study showed that from 60 smoker drivers who consumes alcohol beverages, 80% of them had sustained erectile dysfunction with the degree of dysfunction at most is mild, i.e. 45%. This shows that there are significant effects of alcohol consumption on erectile dysfunction in smoker drivers with a value of p = 0.001 (p<0.05). It can be concluded that smoker drivers who consumes alcoholic beverages can significantly influence the occurrence of erectile dysfunction

    : Smoking can increase free radicals in sperm, which can damage sperm. Vitamin E as non-enzymatic antioxidant and zinc as enzymatic antioxidant that is effective in dealing with free radicals. The aim of this research was to look at the differences between the effects of vitamin E and zinc on spermatozoa quality of male wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) after exposure to cigarette smoke. The research used a completely randomized experimental design. Samples were 9 male wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were randomly divided into 3 groups. Each group was given exposure to cigarette smoke from 2 bars of cigarette/day, which treatment group (P1) also was given vitamin E 1,44 mg/day and treatment group (P2) also was given combination of vitamin E 1,44 mg/day and zinc 10 mg/day. The treatment was given for 50 days. The results of this research showed a significant difference in the motility and morphology of spermatozoa between the treatment group (P1) which received exposure the cigarette smoke and vitamin E and treatment group (P2) which received exposure to cigarette smoke and combination of vitamin E and zinc (p<0,05) compared with the group which received exposure only cigarette smoke without vitamin E or zinc. The motility of spermatozoa treatment group (P2) which received exposure the cigarette smoke and combination vitamin E and zinc was found significant difference with the treatment group (P1) which received exposure the cigarette smoke and vitamin E (p <0,05). Conclusion: The conclusion from this research showed that there is difference between spermatozoa quality especially motility and morphology of group treated with vitamin E and combination of vitamin E and zinc after exposure to cigarette smoke, with combination of vitamin E and zinc had an higher average on spermatozoa quality especially motility

    : Cigarettes are composed of hazardous chemicals such as nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide (CO) to name a few. In just a single puff of a cigarette, there are 1014 free radical molecules also known as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that can cause sperm damage. Various natural ingredients native to Indonesia were found to contain various antioxidants, one of them is honey. The effects of honey as antioxidant may protect body cells in neutralizing free radicals caused by smoking and reducing the damage to spermatozoa cell that is caused by ROS and thereby avoiding the declining quality of spermatozoa. This study aimed to determine the effect of honey on the quality of spermatozoa of Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) that had been exposed to cigarette smoke. Subjects of this study were nine male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) randomly divided into three groups weighing 150-200 g with the age range of 12-14 weeks. Each group of mice was given exposure to the smoke of 2 cigarettes a day in which the treatment group (P1) is also given 0.5 ml of honey per day, and the treatment group (P2) honey 1 ml / day. The results showed that honey treatment can improve concentration, motility, and morphology of spermatozoa Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) by exposure to cigarrets smoke. Occurred a significant difference of concentration, motility, and morphology of spermatozoa group given only the exposure to cigarette smoke and the group given exposure to cigarette smoke and honey. This results showed that 1 ml of honey per day could improve the quality of spermatozoa
