    Acoso y ciberacoso, ¿qué es igual y qué es distinto? Un análisis de clases latentes

    Bullying and cyberbullying are risky behaviours which normally occur during adolescence. Although an important relationship has been recognized between the two phenomena, issues related to their prevalence, the similarity and difference between them, the transfer of roles, as well as the emotional, social, and moral aspects associated with them, remain unresolved. The aim of this study was to explore the roles ofinvolvement in bullying and cyberbullying through an analysis of latent classes, and examine their association with moral disengagement, social and normative adjustment, and anger rumination. The study had a two-stage longitudinal design, with 3,006 secondary school students (Mage= 13.53; 51.9% girls), using extensively validated self-reports in the reference population. The results showed four latent classes: uninvolved, victim-cybervictim, bully victim and wholly involved. Logistic regression analyses identified a low social adjustment in those wholly involved, low normative adjustment and high moral disengagement in mixed profiles, and high anger rumination in all involvement profiles, mainly in bully-victim. These results are discussed in terms of their value in understanding the distinctions between bullying and cyberbullying, the existence of pure and mixed roles, and the associated emotional, social, and moral variablesEl acoso escolar y el ciberacoso se presentan como comportamientos de riesgo durante la adolescencia. Se presenta un estudio longitudinal en dos tiempos con 3,006 escolares de secundaria (Medad= 13.53; 51.9% chicas). Se utilizaron autoinformes ampliamente validados en la población de referencia. Los resultados mostraron cuatro clases latentes: no implicados, víctimas-cibervíctimas, agresores victimizados y totalmente implicados. Análisis de regresión logística identificaron un bajo ajuste social en los totalmente implicados, bajo ajuste normativo y alta desconexión moral en perfiles mixtos, y alta rumiación de la ira en todos los perfiles de implicación, principalmente en agresores victimizados. Se discuten estos resultados en términos de su valor para comprender los matices que distinguen el acoso y ciberacoso, de la existencia de roles puros y mixtos y de las variables emocionales, sociales y morales asociadas

    Benefits of using mobile ad-hoc network protocols in federated satellite systems for polar satellite missions

One of its outcomes is the identification of Arctic services as top priority current user needs that require near-realtime observations. Using Inter-Satellite Communications (ISC) capabilities, a Federated Satellite System (FSS) can establish a win-win collaboration between two spacecrafts to provide these services. However, as a FSS is established during the contact between two satellites, the service duration is limited. Therefore, the Internet of Satellites (IoSat) paradigm promotes the use of multi-hop sporadic networks to deploy FSS. In this context, the routing protocol (which identifies routes between a source-destination pair) becomes crucial. One of the most extended networks is the Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET), in which nodes are constantly moving and changing the network topology. In principle, applying MANET technologies in the IoSat context would provide self-organization, self-configuration, and flexibility to satellite systems. The Optimized Link-State Routing (OLSR) protocol is the predominant solution in MANET, because it quickly reacts against topology changes. This article aims at studying the benefits of using satellite networks with MANET solutions (e.g. OLSR) for polar satellite missions.     High-Temperature Superconducting Level Meter for Liquid Argon Detectors

    Capacitive devices are customarily used as probes to measure the level of noble liquids in detectors operated for neutrino studies and dark matter searches. In this work we describe the use of a high-temperature superconducting material as an alternative to control the level of a cryogenic noble liquid. Lab measurements indicate that the superconductor shows a linear behaviour, a high degree of stability and offers a very accurate determination of the liquid volume. This device is therefore a competitive instrument and shows several advantages over conventional level meters.Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures. Accepted for publication in JINS

    Internet of Satellites (IoSat): an interconnected space paradigm

    During the last years the space has been populated by Distributed Satellite Systems, which some of them have started to implement Inter-Satellite Communication. However, current solutions are composed of a unique mission and homogeneous spacecrafts or a combination of them. This actually limits their use in the so-called “Federated Satellite Systems” that proposes the interconnection of heterogeneous spacecrafts in order to establish a mission collaboration whenever the resources are not used for the primary mission goal. This point-to-point proposal has some limitations that can be addressed in a multi-hop platform, i.e. a network. Current satellite network proposals, such as Space Internet or Heterogeneous Spacecraft Network, propose the creation of a common network backbone which provides connectivity for future missions. However, this approach supposes huge maintenance and deployment costs. This work presents a new interconnected space paradigm based on a more peer-to-peer architecture: Internet of Satellites. This new paradigm promotes the creation of sporadic networks, called Inter Satellite Networks, which provide the required communication means to deploy Federated Satellite Systems for multi-hop cases.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    High resolution transmission electron microscopy: A key tool to understand drug release from mesoporous matrices

    This work demonstrates that high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) is an essential tool to understand drug delivery performance of mesoporous silica materials, mainly those submitted to functionalization processes involving harsh conditions that may affect the mesostructure. Herein an SBA-15-type mesoporous material bearing Si(CH2)(2)P(O)(OCH2CH3)(2) groups was synthesized following the co-condensation route. Then, the resulting material was treated with 37 wt% HCl to convert ethylphosphonate groups to ethylphosphonic acid groups. The proper dealkylation of ethoxy groups following acid treatment was confirmed by FTIR and CP-MAS H-1 -> C-13 solid state NMR, which indicated the presence of Si(CH2)(2)P(O)(OH)(2) functionalities in the treated sample. Characterization of mesoporous materials by XRD diffraction and N-2 adsorption points to well-ordered SBA-15 structures in both untreated and acid-treated samples. Nonetheless, a deep study by HRTEM reveals that the acid-treatment provokes noticeable loss of mesostructural order, only remaining small crystalline domains. This structural damage does not influence cargo loading but it severely affects the release of molecules confined into the mesopores, as concluded from in vitro delivery tests using cephalexin as model drug. Thus, whereas untreated sample showed a sustained diffusion-controlled drug release during more than 2 weeks, 100% of the loaded drug was released only after 10 h from treated sample. This abrupt burst effect cannot be explained on the basis of the existing matrix-drug interactions, whose nature and extension is quite similar under the release conditions for both samples. Thus, it can be only understood on the basis of the mesostructural damage revealed by HRTEM studies. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved
