Cryptographic properties of Boolean functions defining elementary cellular automata

In this work, the algebraic properties of the local transition functions of elementary cellular automata (ECA) were analysed. Specifically, a classification of such cellular automata was done according to their algebraic degree, the balancedness, the resiliency, nonlinearity, the propagation criterion and the existence of non-zero linear structures. It is shown that there is not any ECA satisfying all properties at the same time

LILI Keystream Generator

A family of keystream generators, called the LILI keystream generators, is proposed for use in stream cipher applications and the security of these generators is investigated with respect to currently known attacks. The design is simple and scalable, based on two binary linear feedback shift registers combined in a simple way, using both irregular clocking and nonlinear functions. The design provides the basic security requirements such as a long period and high linear complexity, and is resistant to known cryptanalytic attacks

A transuranic aerosol measurement system: Preliminary results

We have completed the design, fabrication, and assembly of a computer-based prototype system for the measurement of transuranic aerosols in the workplace and environment. This system (called WOTAMS for Workplace Transuranic Aerosol Measurement System) incorporates two detectors: (1) an in-line solid-state alpha detector that sends out an alarm the moment a transuranic release occurs, and (2) an in-vacuum detector that increases off-line-analysis sensitivity. The in-line sensitivity of the system is better than 5.0 MPC-h, and the in-vacuum sensitivity exceeds 0.5 MPC-h. 5 refs., 8 figs., 1 tab
