Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorThis work is a study of rebar CA50 class of SAE 1026 steel, with nominal diameter of 16
mm. This rebar generally presents certain fragility when welding is performed on the field. To
control this undesirable weakness this study becomes very important to find the optimal
parameters of welding.
To carry out this study analysis of mechanical properties was performed, through mechanical
(tensile, hardness, impact) in the material as received, and microstructural characteristics
(metallography) to establish a baseline for comparison. Welding the material was carried out
using argon as protective gas of 20% CO2, with copperwire ER70S6 joints were run through
with the type of monitoring temperature using thermocouples to different heat inputs. A
computational numerical code was developed to simulate the phenomena occurring in the
process (temperature gradient, phase transformations, heat transfer).
Welded joints did not show how fragile martensite phase in the weld metal microstructure
was dendritic, the ZTA joint presented three regions with different grain sizes (ferrite + pearlite),
this due to the temperature gradient. The different thermal contributions gave rise to a weld bead
penetration of the variation, it is also expected that there is a variation in the quantization stage
due to this variation in the heat input.
Therefore expected to meet this numerical and experimental study, one recommended
procedure for welding of these rods in the field, which is compatible with the properties required
in the use of the same design.118 p
microestrutural a partir do ciclo térmico simulado.
do espaçamento dendrítico.
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorThe application of dissimilar welded joints is widely used in the case of Inconel 718 and
AISI 316L mainly in the aeronautical industry and in nuclear power plants. This is due
to the high mechanical resistance coupled with high corrosion resistance in both
environments and high temperatures. This work besides establishing references of
welding parameters that can provide stability for the metallurgical union between
dissimilar metals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of welding current and
interpass temperature on dissimilar joints, using the tungsten electrode arc welding
process and multigene gas shielding (TIG). An experimental planning tool was used to
maximize the results of the experimental analyzes. For the metallurgical
characterization, the weld joint was analyzed using Vickers Microhardness profiles,
optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using the secondary
electron (ES) method and dispersive energy spectroscopy (EDS). To extend the scope
of the analyzes, experimental planning was carried out together with a statistical
correlation of the experimental results. The computational simulation, once validated,
can be used to obtain thermal cycles and temperature distributions for different
situations from the experimental ones, and thus to allow the microstructural prediction
from the simulated thermal cycle. The increase in the current and temperature of the
interpass caused a change in the geometry of the molten zone (MZ), as well as the
dendritic spacing. In addition, it caused a sudden drop in microhardness, while the ferrite
fraction in the MZ increased. The welding current showed greater influence on the
results when compared to the interpass temperature.195 p
Effects of an External Magnetic Field on the Microstructural and Mechanical Properties of the Fusion Zone in TIG Welding
Welding is a widely used process that requires continuous developments to meet new application demands of mechanical projects under severe conditions. The homogeneity of metallurgical and mechanical properties in welded joints is the key factor for any welding process. The applications of external magnetic fields, mechanical vibration, and ultrasound are the fundamental steps to achieve success in improving these properties. The present work aimed at determining suitable processing conditions to achieve the desired balance between metallurgical and mechanical properties of 304L steel in TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding under the application of an external magnetic field. The microstructural characteristics of the weld bead were analyzed by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In order to evaluate the mechanical properties of the welded specimen, its Vickers microhardness map and Charpy impact energy at −20 °C were obtained. In addition, corrosion tests were carried out in the saline medium to compare the corrosion resistance of the joint with that of the base metal and that without the magnetic field. It was found that the external magnetic field decreased the percentage of delta ferrite, improved the filling of the weld pool with the weld metal, and decreased the primary and secondary dendritic spacings. The Vickers microhardness value under the magnetic field was found to be lower than that without the magnetic field, and the Charpy test showed no significant variation in energy absorption. Moreover, the welded joint produced under the external magnetic field manifested less resistance to corrosion
