    Monnet for Nothing? France's Mixed Europeanization

    This contribution tries both to assess the impact of the European Union on France and to discuss the rich literature on that topic originating both from EU studies, opinion studies, public policy analysis and institutional analysis. France’s relationship with the EU appears paradoxical given the contrast between the traditional pro-EU involvement of French elites and regular expressions of reticence, such as the opposition to the Draft Constitutional Treaty by referendum in 2005. This paper offers an account of this paradoxical relationship by highlighting the heterogeneity of adaptation to the EU. While public policy and legislation are becoming increasingly Europeanised, the EU has a limited impact on political life and the domestic institutional system. As a result of this mixed situation, the national narratives for supporting French membership to the EU suffer from progressive erosion and Euroscepticism subtly gaining ground.Europeanization; France; public opinion; institutions; political science

    Equality languages and fixed point languages

    This paper considers equality languages and fixed-point languages of homomorphisms and deterministic gsm mappings. It provides some basic properties of these classes of languages. We introduce a new subclass of dgsm mappings, the so-called symmetric dgsm mappings. We prove that (unlike for arbitrary dgsm mappings) their fixed-point languages are regular but not effectively obtainable. This result has various consequences. In particular we strengthen a result from Ehrenfeucht, A., and Rozenberg, G. [(1978), Theor. Comp. Sci. 7, 169–184] by pointing out a class of homomorphisms which includes elementary homomorphisms but still has regular equality languages. Also we show that the result from Herman, G. T., and Walker, A. [(1976), Theor. Comp. Sci. 2, 115–130] that fixed-point languages of DIL mappings are regular, is not effective

    Dynamical Mean Field Theory with the Density Matrix Renormalization Group

    A new numerical method for the solution of the Dynamical Mean Field Theory's self-consistent equations is introduced. The method uses the Density Matrix Renormalization Group technique to solve the associated impurity problem. The new algorithm makes no a priori approximations and is only limited by the number of sites that can be considered. We obtain accurate estimates of the critical values of the metal-insulator transitions and provide evidence of substructure in the Hubbard bands of the correlated metal. With this algorithm, more complex models having a larger number of degrees of freedom can be considered and finite-size effects can be minimized.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
