    Improving Students Speaking Skill Through Oral Description Practice

    This research was intended to improve the students speaking skill through oral description practice technique. The aspects of speaking skill focused in this research were accuracy, fluency, and confidence. The research method that used was a classroom action research. The subject of this research was Grade VIII D at junior high school SMP Negeri 2 Tebas which consist of 28 students. The data was collected by using oral test, observation checklist, fieldnotes, and tape recorder. It was analyzed by describing oral test, tape recorder, observation checklist and fieldnote, and by using formula of mean score. The findings indicated the students speaking skill improved through oral description technique in three cycles. The students mean score in the first cycle was 63.35, the second cycle 72.15 and the last cycle was 75,37. Oral Description Technique was an interesting technique that can be applied in the classroom. It helps student to remind the student about the topic to be described. So, it is hoped that they can speak more fluently. Moreover, by holding something on their hand, they feel confident on their speaking.     Students Mastery on Phrasal Verbs

    This research aims to find out the 5th semester students of English Education Study Program of FKIP Tanjungpura University in academic year 2013/2014 mastery level on phrasal verbs and to know in which test items the 5th semester students fail mostly in answering question about semantic and syntactic phrasal verbs. The finding of this research showed that the students mastery level of semantic and syntactic phrasal verbs was low. From the result of the test, the percentage of the students correct answer was 44.42% and it is classified as failing or unsatisfactory. This research also found that the percentage of the students correct answer in semantic categories is 39.01% and the percentage of the students correct answer in semantic categories is 49.82% and it means the 5th semester students of English Education Study Program of FKIP Tanjungpura University in academic year 2013/2014 fail mostly in answering question about semantic categories of phrasal verbs

    Analysis Of Efl Students' Negative Emotions Towards English Learning Process In SMPN 23 Pontianak

    This research investigated students' negative emotion during English for Foreign Language (EFL) class. The negative emotions that became the focus of this research were anxiety, boredom, hopelessness, and anger. To achieve the objectives, the writer used case study method. There were three procedures of this research namely classroom observation, Likert questionnaire, and students interview. The participants of this study were 20 students who were considered problematic in the EFL class, and sample was 10 chosen by purposive sampling technique. The finding showed that all students had negative emotions during the EFL learning process. The order of the negative emotions were anxiety (97 cases), hopelessness (73 cases), anger (55 cases), and boredom (39 cases). The factors stimulating those negative emotions came from students' English ability, English materials' difficulty level, presentation of English materials, and the students' relationship with their peers and English teacher. It was also found that the negative emotions gave impact to students' performance like passive behavior, less concentrated, less motivated and lack of confidence

    The Correlation Between Students' Reading Strategies and Their Reading Comprehension Ability in Reading Academic Text

    This research was conducted to find out the correlation between students' reading strategies and their reading comprehension ability. It was also to find out the most category and types of reading strategies used by students and students' reading comprehension in reading academic text. The subject of this research was 5th semester students of English Education Study Program. There were 53 students as participants in this research. The method that used in this research was descriptive study. The data collected by distributed a questionnaire and TOEFL test. The data revealed that 49.06% students labeled as high strategy user category and 50.94% students labeled as moderate strategy category. Besides, the most types of reading strategies used by students were Problem Solving Strategy with the average score was 3.93. Furthermore, 5th semester students have average to good in reading comprehension. The correlation between students' reading strategies and their reading comprehension showed that the correlation coefficient was 0.51 and classified in “moderate level”

    Teaching Reading Comprehension on Descriptive Text Through Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (Circ) Method

    : This research was aimed at finding out the effectiveness of the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method in teaching reading comprehension on descriptive text. To achieve the objective of the research, a pre-experimental research was conducted at MA Khulafaur Rasyidin with the subject of the research was the tenth grade students in class XC in Academic Year 2015/2016 which was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The findings of the research obviously showed that the use of CIRC method had a highly significant effect on the students\u27 reading comprehension on descriptive text shown by the students\u27 improved scores on the post-test and the students\u27 learning behavior towards reading activity. To sum up, the present research findings proved that teaching reading comprehension on descriptive text by using CIRC method is effective

    This research Improving Students Vocabulary Mastery through Quartet Picture (A Classroom Action Research to the Third Grade Students at SD Plus Bina Empat Lima Pontianak In Academic Year 2012/ 2013) was intended to improve students vocabulary mastery especially in vocabulary of noun Name of Profession. It was a Classroom Action Research which was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research was students of III A in SD Plus Bina Empat Lima Pontianak In Academic Year 2012/ 2013 which cosisted of 24 students. The data was collected by using observation checklist, students measurement test and field note. It was analyzed by describing the observation checklist and fieldnote, and by using formula of mean score. The findings indicated the vocabulary mastery especially in vocabulary of noun Name of Profession improved through Quartet Picture. The students mean score in the first cycle was 97.65, and it was 99.05 in the second cycle

    An Analysis On Factors Influencing Students' Low English Learning Achievement

    This research was aimed to investigate the most dominant internal and external factor influencing students' low English learning achievement. To achieve the purpose of this study, a descriptive research was conducted at SMKN 2 Pontianak with the sample of this study was the eleventh grade students of XI TSM class in Academic Year 2015/2016 which was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The findings of this research revealed that (1) Negative attitude was found to be the most dominant internal factor influencing students' low English learning achievement with the percentage was 78,86% and classified as strong influence. (2) Of the two external factor, unsupportive school environment was found to be the most dominant one with the percentage was 62,38% and also classified as strong influence and followed by lack of family support with the percentage was 40,12% which was classified as weak. To conclude, negative attitude which was supported negatively by the unsupportive school environment had a strong negative influence to the teaching learning process which consequently resulted in students' low achievement
