Ability to identify scene-relative object movement is not limited by, or yoked to, ability to perceive heading
During locomotion humans can judge where they are heading relative to the scene and the movement of objects within the scene. Both judgments rely on identifying global components of optic flow. What is the relationship between the perception of heading, and the identification of object movement during self-movement? Do they rely on a shared mechanism? One way to address these questions is to compare performance on the two tasks. We designed stimuli that allowed direct comparison of the precision of heading and object movement judgments. Across a series of experiments, we found the precision was typically higher when judging scene-relative object movement than when judging heading. We also found that manipulations of the content of the visual scene can change the relative precision of the two judgments. These results demonstrate that the ability to judge scene-relative object movement during self-movement is not limited by, or yoked to, the ability to judge the direction of self-movement
On Choosing Initial Values of Iteratively Reweighted Algorithms for the Piece-wise Exponential Penalty
Computing the proximal operator of the sparsity-promoting piece-wise
exponential (PiE) penalty with a given shape parameter
, which is treated as a popular nonconvex surrogate of -norm,
is fundamental in feature selection via support vector machines, image
reconstruction, zero-one programming problems, compressed sensing, etc. Due to
the nonconvexity of PiE, for a long time, its proximal operator is frequently
evaluated via an iteratively reweighted algorithm, which substitutes
PiE with its first-order approximation, however, the obtained solutions only
are the critical point. Based on the exact characterization of the proximal
operator of PiE, we explore how the iteratively reweighted solution
deviates from the true proximal operator in certain regions, which can be
explicitly identified in terms of , the initial value and the
regularization parameter in the definition of the proximal operator. Moreover,
the initial value can be adaptively and simply chosen to ensure that the
iteratively reweighted solution belongs to the proximal operator of
PiE
A FUNCTIONAL STUDY OF A NEW DIABETIC FOOT SHOE
The purpose of this study was to testing the function of a new diabetic foot shoe - BMWALKER shoe which designed for Chinese people in daily activities and made a comparison with that of DARCO by means of plantar pressure distribution analysis and subjective wearing sense evaluation of diabetic patients. It was showed either BMWALKER or DARCO diabetic shoes could reduce the pressure and impulse at the ball of foot (M2-5 metatarsus), thus balance the pressure in the nine regions of the foot sole and abate the risk of damage due to high pressure and long time impact. The DARCO shoes dispersed the pressure of ball of foot and heel by better arch support. And the BMWALKER shoes reduced the maximum pressure and impulse by increasing the effective load area at the metatarsal. It indicated that both shoes have the function of foot protection but the mechanism of reducing the pressure on the ball of foot was different
Empirical Research of Fans Consumption in Talent Show Economy of China
In recent years, with the continuous development of China's draft industry, Internet drafts have become common throughout China. The talent show industry has not only won the love of the audience, but also the attention of capital. A lot of capital began to invest in the talent show industry to cultivate new popular idols. Through social media platforms, fans can purchase products recommended by idols and vote for idols to increase their ranking. Idols also gain more popularity and sell more endorsed products through interaction with fans. This article starts with the talent economy, through questionnaire surveys and empirical methods, explores the factors that affect fans' consumption on idols. Diversified participation, idol abilities, social influence and empathy have been proved to have positive impacts on fansβ intention to consuming. This research provides detailed empirical research conclusions for China's talent show market, which has a strong role in promoting the sustainable development of the talent show economy
