Study of mesonic observables from a mixed action lattice QCD formalism
using Nf = 2 + 1 non-perturbatively O(a)-improved Wilson fermions with open
boundary conditions in the time direction, while a Wilson twisted mass action at
maximal twist is used for valence quarks. In this setup, fermionic observables are
free from O(a) lattice artifacts proportional to the valence quark masses.
Two alternative procedures for the matching of sea and valence quark masses
are discussed. We perform a universality check by comparing continuum limit
extrapolations of the quark masses and of the pseudoscalar meson decay constants
obtained with two setups: the mixed action and the standard approach where
Wilson fermions are used in sea and valence sectors.
We use the gradient flow scale t0 and physical input from the pion and kaon
decay constants to carry out a scale setting procedure. This is applied to the
determination of the light and strange quark masses. A particular attention is
given to the statistical analysis of the lattice data and to the assessment of the
systematic uncertaintie
A tmQCD mixed-action approach to flavour physics
We discuss a mixed-action approach in which sea quarks are regularised using
non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions, while a fully-twisted
tmQCD action is used for valence quarks. In this setup, automatic
improvement is preserved for valence observables, apart from small residual
effects from the sea. A strategy for matching sea and valence is
set up, and carried out for CLS ensembles with open boundary
conditions at several simulation points. The scaling of basic light-quark
observables such as the pseudoscalar meson decay constant is studied, as well
as the isospin splitting of pseudoscalar meson masses.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, Proceedings of the 35th International Symposium

Analysis of the economic feasibility and reduction of a building’s energy consumption and emissions when integrating hybrid solar thermal/PV/micro-CHP systems
The aim of this paper is to assess the performance of several designs of hybrid systems composed of solar thermal collectors, photovoltaic panels and natural gas internal combustion engines. The software TRNSYS 17 has been used to perform all the calculations and data processing, as well as an optimisation of the tank volumes through an add-in coupled with the GENOPT® software. The study is carried out by analysing the behaviour of the designed systems and the conventional case in five different locations of Spain with diverse climatic characteristics, evaluating the same building in all cases. Regulators, manufacturers and energy service engineers are the most interested in these results.
Two major contributions in this paper are the calculations of primary energy consumption and emissions and the inclusion of a Life Cycle Cost analysis. A table which shows the order of preference regarding those criteria for each considered case study is also included. This was fulfilled in the interest of comparing between the different configurations and climatic zones so as to obtain conclusions on each of them. The study also illustrates a sensibility analysis regarding energy prices. Finally, the exhaustive literature review, the novel electricity consumption profile of the building and the illustration of the influence of the cogeneration engine working hours are also valuable outputs of this paper, developed in order to address the knowledge gap and the ongoing challenges in the field of distributed generation
Forest fire prediction using fuzzy prototypical knowledge discovery
An application of Zadeh’s prototype theory in the Knowledge Acquisition process, is presented here, and as a practical example, to define a method for predicting the evolution of the forest fire occurrence-danger rate in INCEND-IA: A KBS for prediction and decision support in fighting against forest fires. This method then allows us to interpret any real cyclical situation using a previously discovered paradigm and define the current period. The FPKD (Fuzzy Prototypical Knowledge Discovery) is presented as a mechanism with the aim of generating Prototypes of Data (A new set of data sufficiently representative to be able to summarize or assimilate the behavior of any of the remaining data); but the concept of prototype is a fuzzy concept and Zadeh’s Theory provides an appropriate framework for its application. Data Mining techniques have been used (decision trees, time series, clustering...). Thus, it is possible to calculate the grade of compatibility of a real situation with the prototypes and define the current period using these affinity values, with the objective of predicting the evolution of the following daysI Workshop de Agentes y Sistemas Inteligentes (WASI)Red de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI
CO oxidation at low temperature on Au/CePO4: Mechanistic aspects
This work reports the synthesis and characterization of a cerium phosphate supported gold catalyst as well as its catalytic activity for the oxidation of CO. A precipitation method in the presence of an organic modifier followed by a hydrothermal treatment was used for the support synthesis, resulting in high surface area nanometric particles. Gold/cerium phosphate catalyst with a 1% (w/w) nominal gold content was characterized using XRF, XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption measurements, TEM and DRIFTS-MS. The catalyst shows good catalytic activity at low temperature. The activity is related to the generation of oxygen vacancies in the support caused by the elimination of structural oxygen. In situ studies revealed that the reaction of the oxygen vacancies with gaseous oxygen resulted in the formation of peroxo species. These species are responsible for the activity detected at room temperature in both the catalyst and the support. Moreover, the presence of carbonate and hydrogen carbonate acting as reaction intermediates have been observed
