A pilot study of the Italian adaptation of the Session Evaluation Questionnaire fourth version
Abstract The Session Evaluation Questionnaire (SEQ) evaluates the impact of counselling and psychotherapy sessions; it may be conceived as a bridge between psychotherapy process and outcome. SEQ is a self-report tool asking patients about their experience with the clinical session just ended; it consists of 27 adjectives in semantic differential scale, divided into three thematic parts: evaluation of the session itself, feelings after the session, and evaluation of the therapist. Even if the original American SEQ has been translated into many languages, only a few translations have been validated. This is a pilot study, which attempted to replicate the five-dimensional structure of the fourth version of the Anglo-American SEQ, for the Italian population. Data were collected on 111 outpatients attending the Psychological Assistance Service (SAP-Dynamic Psychotherapy Service) of Padua University, after their first two clinical interviews. Exploratory factor analyses (PCA with varimax rotation) were performed on each of the three parts of the SEQ. Results confirmed the original factorial structure, showing a substantial agree for Depth, Smoothness, Positivity and Arousal dimensions; Good Therapist dimension overlapped perfectly with the original one. The Italian SEQ showed adequate internal consistency (Cronbach\u2019s alphas ranged .65 to .86 for the five subscales). Convergent validity measured with an index of perceived satisfaction in the counselling process, showed significant positive correlations with Good Therapist, Depth and Positivity scores. The preliminary results of this pilot study show that the Italian SEQ results in a reliable instrument to measure the impact of clinical sessions. Of course, validation studies are needed, especially to replicate the factor structure of the instrument and to better assess its validity
Lost in Transition? The Returns to Education Acquired under Communism 15 Years after the Fall of the Berlin Wall
Using data for 22 economies in Eastern and Western Europe, we find evidence that having studied under communism is relatively penalized in the economies of the late 2000s. This evidence, however, is limited to males and to primary and secondary education, and holds for eight CEE economies but not for the East Germans who have studied in the former German Democratic Republic. We also find that post-secondary education acquired under communism yields higher, not lower, payoffs than similar education in Western Europe.returns to education, Eastern Europe
Lost in Transition? The returns to education acquired under communism 15 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall
Using data for 23 economies in Eastern and Western Europe, we find evidence that having studied under communism is relatively penalized in the economies of the late 2000s. This evidence, however, is limited to males and to primary and secondary education, and holds for eight CEE economies but not for the East Germans who have studied in the former German Democratic Republic. We also find that post-secondary education acquired under communism yields higher, not lower, payoffs than similar education in Western Europe.
Chronic diseases and labor market outcomes in Egypt
By causing a sizeable reduction in employment 6 percent and labor supply 19 percent, chronic diseases are responsible for a major efficiency loss in the Egyptian economy. Furthermore the impact of chronic diseases on the labor market is not uniformly distributed. The older and the less educated suffer a larger drop in the probability of being employed and in their supply of working hours. The authors estimate the reduced form equations of individual employment status, labor supply and the usual wage equation. They control for unobserved ability and individual preferences by means of a within-siblings estimator. Measurement errors in our self-reported health variable have been accounted for.Health Monitoring&Evaluation,Labor Markets,Disease Control&Prevention,Labor Policies,Population Policies
Monitoring and Analysis of the Real Estate Market in a Social Perspective: Results from the Turin’s (Italy) Experience
In Italy, it has always been dicult to collect reliable data on real estate given the opacity of
the information available. Keeping into consideration the actual availability of data and information,
the possibility to have a structure for permanently monitoring and analysing the real estate market
is fundamental. Focusing on developing and disseminating knowledge related to practices in this
context, in this paper the Turin’s (Northern Italy) experience is presented, through the Real Estate
Market Observatory (TREMO): This structure is based on a data-warehouse, implemented over
time, with databases that lead to historic price observations of the residential market. The data
warehouse is the basis for investigating methodologies and analyses, assuming the spatial requisites
of the data and its georeferencing as the main discriminant in choosing among descriptive statistics,
multi-varied or spatial analysis methods. In twenty years, several studies have been developed,
allowing us not only to explore the applicability of models and operative modalities, but also to
obtain results with a high potential impact under a social viewpoint. In this paper, the methodologies
developed for implementing the monitoring structure are presented, specifically the “quality process”
and computerized analysis procedures, followed by some representative research experiences with
reference to aims, models and results
Fil: Sabatini, Marina Elena.
