    What is the experience of babywearing a NICU graduate?.

    The benefits of skin-to-skin and kangaroo care have been well researched and documented. Despite the large volume of evidence to support various and long-term benefits to both caregivers and children, skin-to-skin care continues to be difficult to practice with eligible caregiver-child dyads. Babywearing may have similar benefits as skin-to-skin care but there is very little scholarly research on babywearing and no research available on babywearing children born prematurely. This study attempts to bring understanding of the effects that babywearing has on caregiver-child dyads after a NICU hospitalization. Six themes were identified in this qualitative phenomenological study. Four themes were similar to themes previously identified in kangaroo and skin-to-skin care research: Bonding, Calmness and Sleep, Decreased Stress and Anxiety, and Parental Empowerment. In addition to these previously described themes, two themes independent to this study were identified: Ease of Work, and Self-care. There is a paucity of research on the practice of babywearing. This study highlighted the need for further qualitative and quantitative research to support the needs of families caring for children born prematurely. In addition, there is evidence that babywearing could ease the workload for caregivers managing households that include high-needs children, such as premature infants.     The ichnology of the Winterhouse Formation

    The Upper Ordovician Winterhouse Formation of Western Newfoundland contains a, hitherto undescribed, well-preserved and diverse assemblage of trace fossils. This study provides the first systematic ichnological review of the area. 20 ichnotaxa are documented herein from the mudstone and sandstone storm deposits of the formation. A detailed morphologic three-dimensional reconstruction and analysis of a complex Parahaentzschelinia-like burrow system that is prolific throughout the formation is also undertaken. This analysis allows for a reconsideration of the trace-maker’s ethology and paleobiology, and highlights a need for a systematic ichnotaxonomic review of Parahaentzschelinia. Additional reconstructions of natural mineral-filled fractures associated with Parahaentzschelinia-like burrows in the cemented silt-rich fine-grained sandstones illustrate that the burrows create planes of weakness within the cemented sandstone, along which natural fractures preferentially propagate. This suggests that these trace fossils create mechanical heterogeneities that can steer fracture development, and can potentially have a dramatic effect on reservoir charactertstics in bioturbated reservoirs where induced fracturing techniques may be employed

    Astrophysical Limits on Very Light Axion-like Particles from Chandra Grating Spectroscopy of NGC 1275

    Axions/axion-like particles (ALPs) are a well motivated extension of the Standard Model and are generic within String Theory. The X-ray transparency of the intracluster medium (ICM) in galaxy clusters is a powerful probe of light ALPs (with mass <10−11 eV<10^{-11}\,{\rm eV}); as X-ray photons from an embedded or background source propagate through the magnetized ICM, they may undergo energy-dependent quantum mechanical conversion into ALPs (and vice versa), imprinting distortions on the X-ray spectrum. We present Chandra data for the active galactic nucleus NGC1275 at the center of the Perseus cluster. Employing a 490ks High-Energy Transmission Gratings (HETG) exposure, we obtain a high-quality 1-9keV spectrum free from photon pileup and ICM contamination. Apart from iron-band features, the spectrum is described by a power-law continuum, with any spectral distortions at the <3%<3\% level. We compute photon survival probabilities as a function of ALP mass mam_a and ALP-photon coupling constant gaγg_{a\gamma} for an ensemble of ICM magnetic field models, and then use the NGC1275 spectrum to constraint the (ma,gaγ)(m_a, g_{a\gamma})-plane. Marginalizing over magnetic field realizations, the 99.7% credible region limits the ALP-photon coupling to gaγ<6−8×10−13 GeV−1g_{a\gamma}<6-8\times 10^{-13}\, {\rm GeV}^{-1} (depending upon magnetic field model) for masses ma<1×10−12 eVm_a<1\times 10^{-12}\,{\rm eV}. These are the most stringent limit to date on gaγg_{a\gamma} for these light ALPs, and have already reached the sensitivity limits of next-generation helioscopes and light-shining-through-wall experiments.     New constraints on light axion-like particles using Chandra transmission grating spectroscopy of the powerful cluster-hosted quasar H1821+643

    Axion-like particles (ALPs) are predicted by several Beyond the Standard Model theories, in particular, string theory. In the presence of an external magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of propagation, ALPs can couple to photons. Therefore, if an X-ray source is viewed through a magnetized plasma, such as a luminous quasar in a galaxy cluster, we may expect spectral distortions that are well described by photon–ALP oscillations. We present a 571 ks combined high- and low-energy transmission grating Chandra observation of the powerful radio-quiet quasar H1821+643, hosted by a cool-core cluster at redshift 0.3. The spectrum is well described by a double power-law continuum and broad+narrow iron line emission typical of type-1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs), with remaining spectral features 6.3 × 10−13 GeV−1 for most ALP masses <10−12 eV. Our results are moderately more sensitive to constraining ALPs than the best previous result from Chandra observations of the Perseus cluster, albeit with a less constrained field model. We reflect on the promising future of ALP studies with bright AGNs embedded in rich clusters, especially with the upcoming Athena mission

    Pan-Cancer Analysis of lncRNA Regulation Supports Their Targeting of Cancer Genes in Each Tumor Context

    Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are commonly dys-regulated in tumors, but only a handful are known toplay pathophysiological roles in cancer. We inferredlncRNAs that dysregulate cancer pathways, onco-genes, and tumor suppressors (cancer genes) bymodeling their effects on the activity of transcriptionfactors, RNA-binding proteins, and microRNAs in5,185 TCGA tumors and 1,019 ENCODE assays.Our predictions included hundreds of candidateonco- and tumor-suppressor lncRNAs (cancerlncRNAs) whose somatic alterations account for thedysregulation of dozens of cancer genes and path-ways in each of 14 tumor contexts. To demonstrateproof of concept, we showed that perturbations tar-geting OIP5-AS1 (an inferred tumor suppressor) andTUG1 and WT1-AS (inferred onco-lncRNAs) dysre-gulated cancer genes and altered proliferation ofbreast and gynecologic cancer cells. Our analysis in-dicates that, although most lncRNAs are dysregu-lated in a tumor-specific manner, some, includingOIP5-AS1, TUG1, NEAT1, MEG3, and TSIX, synergis-tically dysregulate cancer pathways in multiple tumorcontexts

    Pan-cancer Alterations of the MYC Oncogene and Its Proximal Network across the Cancer Genome Atlas

    Although theMYConcogene has been implicated incancer, a systematic assessment of alterations ofMYC, related transcription factors, and co-regulatoryproteins, forming the proximal MYC network (PMN),across human cancers is lacking. Using computa-tional approaches, we define genomic and proteo-mic features associated with MYC and the PMNacross the 33 cancers of The Cancer Genome Atlas.Pan-cancer, 28% of all samples had at least one ofthe MYC paralogs amplified. In contrast, the MYCantagonists MGA and MNT were the most frequentlymutated or deleted members, proposing a roleas tumor suppressors.MYCalterations were mutu-ally exclusive withPIK3CA,PTEN,APC,orBRAFalterations, suggesting that MYC is a distinct onco-genic driver. Expression analysis revealed MYC-associated pathways in tumor subtypes, such asimmune response and growth factor signaling; chro-matin, translation, and DNA replication/repair wereconserved pan-cancer. This analysis reveals insightsinto MYC biology and is a reference for biomarkersand therapeutics for cancers with alterations ofMYC or the PMN
