PyWiFeS: a rapid data reduction pipeline for the Wide Field Spectrograph (WiFeS)
We present PyWiFeS, a new Python-based data reduction pipeline for the Wide Field Spectrograph (WiFeS). PyWiFeS consists of a series of core data processing routines built on standard scientific Python packages commonly used in astronomical applications. Included in PyWiFeS is an implementation of a new global optical model of the spectrograph which provides wavelengths solutions accurate to ?0.05 Ã… (RMS) across the entire detector. The core PyWiFeS package is designed to be scriptable to enable batch processing of large quantities of data, and we present a default format for handling of observation metadata and scripting of data reduction
Variability in the growth, feeding and condition of barramundi (Lates calcarifer Bloch) in a northern Australian coastal river and impoundment
Lates calcarifer supports important fisheries throughout tropical Australia. Community-driven fish stocking has resulted in the creation of impoundment fisheries and supplemental stocking of selected wild riverine populations. Using predominantly tag-recapture methods, condition assessment and stomach flushing techniques, this study compared the growth of stocked and wild L. calcarifer in a tropical Australian river (Johnstone River) and stocked fish in a nearby impoundment (Lake Tinaroo). Growth of L. calcarifer in the Johnstone River appeared resource-limited, with juvenile fish in its lower freshwater reaches feeding mainly on small aytid shrimp and limited quantities of fish. Growth was probably greatest in estuarine and coastal areas than in the lower freshwater river. Fish in Lake Tinaroo, where prey availability was greater, grew faster than either wild or stocked fish in the lower freshwater areas of the Johnstone River. Growth of L. calcarifer was highly seasonal with marked declines in the cooler months. This was reflected in both stomach fullness and the percentage of fish with empty stomachs but the condition of L. calcarifer was similar across most sites. In areas where food resources appear stretched, adverse effects on resident L. calcarifer populations and their attendant prey species should be minimised through cessation of, or more conservative, stocking practices
Hyperfine clock transitions of bismuth donors in silicon detected by spin-dependent recombination
Bismuth donors ion-implanted in 28Si and natSi are studied using magnetic resonance spectroscopy based on spin-dependent recombination. The hyperfine clock transition, at which the linewidth is significantly narrowed, is observed for the bismuth donors. The experimental results are modeled quantitatively by molecular orbital theory for a coupled pair consisting of a bismuth donor and a spin-dependent recombination readout center, including the effect of hyperfine and Zeeman interactions
Association between a progesterone receptor mutation and hepatitis E sero-positivity in liver transplant recipients
Problem: We investigated if the PROGINS mutation increases the risk of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection in liver transplant recipients. PROGINS was analyzed through KASP assay; HEV serologies assessed via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and multiplex cytokine assays were evaluated in plasma with the ProcartaPlex human immunoassay. Seventy liver transplant recipients were evaluated, of which 23 (33%) were HEV immunoglobuln G (IgG)-positive (HEV+). The frequency of PROGINS in the HEV+ group was 34%, compared with 14% in those that were HEV IgG negative (HEV−). Cytokine measurements in a sub-set of samples from HEV+/PROGINS+ individuals showed decreased plasma levels of monokine induced by gamma interferon, a proliferation-inducing ligand, and stem cell factor, as well as increased levels of eotaxin-3 and interleukin-31 compared with those HEV−/PROGINS− samples. Our findings suggest an association between the PROGINS mutation and seropositivity for HEV in liver transplant recipients with consequent distorted cytokine levels
Should mentoring be routinely introduced into general dental practice to reduce the risk of occupational stress?
Introduction: Occupational stress within general dental practice can potentially have an adverse impact on a practitioner's wellbeing and the quality of healthcare provided by that individual. Mentoring has routinely been utilised in other professions for stress management, however, there is little in the dental literature discussing the benefits of mentorship on the reduction of occupational stress for dental practitioners.
Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the perceptions of experienced foundation dental trainers within the Health Education, Kent, Surrey and Sussex postgraduate deanery as to the usefulness of routine mentoring as a tool to reduce occupational stress.
Methods: Using a qualitative approach, six individual semi-structured interviews were undertaken. Recorded interviews were transcribed and transcriptions were analysed using thematic coding to identify overarching themes.
Results: Both similarities and differences with the existing literature on routine mentoring within professional settings were identified. Foundation dental trainers were positive towards the concept of routine mentoring, although there was also a degree of scepticism regarding the potential uptake among colleagues. There was a perception that mentoring might more practically be used as a reactionary tool. Multiple potential barriers to routine mentoring were identified, included funding, scheduling and a lack of training.
Conclusions: The analysis identified that currently, experienced foundation dental practitioners do not consider routine mentoring as a practical option in the prevention of occupational stress. The results would suggest that further education is required as to the benefits of routine mentoring as a strategy for occupational stress management. However, with additional resources buying time, a hybrid model of mentoring and coaching has significant potential in general dental practice
On a Neutrino Electroweak Radius
We study a combination of amplitudes for neutrino scattering that can isolate
a (gauge-invariant) difference of chirality-preserving neutrino electroweak
radii for and . This involves both photon and
exchange contributions. It is shown that the construction singles out the
contributions of the hypercharge gauge field in the standard model.
We comment on how gauge-dependent terms from the charge radii cancel with other

Entangled Light in Moving Frames
We calculate the entanglement between a pair of polarization-entangled photon
beams as a function of the reference frame, in a fully relativistic framework.
We find the transformation law for helicity basis states and show that, while
it is frequency independent, a Lorentz transformation on a momentum-helicity
eigenstate produces a momentum-dependent phase. This phase leads to changes in
the reduced polarization density matrix, such that entanglement is either
decreased or increased, depending on the boost direction, the rapidity, and the

The BCS Functional for General Pair Interactions
The Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) functional has recently received renewed
attention as a description of fermionic gases interacting with local pairwise
interactions. We present here a rigorous analysis of the BCS functional for
general pair interaction potentials. For both zero and positive temperature, we
show that the existence of a non-trivial solution of the nonlinear BCS gap
equation is equivalent to the existence of a negative eigenvalue of a certain
linear operator. From this we conclude the existence of a critical temperature
below which the BCS pairing wave function does not vanish identically. For
attractive potentials, we prove that the critical temperature is non-zero and
