Various mutants of human immunodeficiency type 1 (HIV-1) were systematically analyzed with respect to their ability to suppress the replication of wild-type (wt) HIV-1. A total of thirty-six mutants of all nine HIV-1 genes were evaluated for their inhibitory effects in a single-round of viral replication cycle. Some of the gag and env mutants were found to be efficiently interfere with the replication of wt HIV-1. The effective sites were mapped to early and/or late viral replication phase. These mutants are useful for future gene therapy against HIV-1 disease AIDS
