Remember, Recover: Trauma and Transgenerational Negotiations with the Indian Partition in "This Side, That Side" and the "1947 Partition Archive"

    Get PDF
The hauntings of the Indian Partition continue to be expressed via newer mediums as two or three generations negotiate its impact. This paper looks at role and function of the "1947 Partition Archive" that records oral testimonies of first-generation witnesses. It also examines an anthology of graphic narratives – "This Side, That Side" – that illustrates second-generation accounts of trying to understand the Partition, as it is passed down through stories and memories. Through an analysis of both, trans-generational negotiations with traumatic memories of the Indian Partition can be studied along with examining how newer channels open newer opportunities of representing its trauma. I argue that such mediums not only fulfil a therapeutic need but also highlight the trans-generational quality of forgiveness in light of collective traumas

In this paper, we have studied flat Friedmann--Lema\^{\i}tre--Robertson--Walker (FLRW) model with modified Chaplygin gas (MCG) having equation of state p_{m}=A\rho -% \frac{B}{\rho ^{\gamma }}, where 0A10\leq A\leq 1, 0γ10\leq \gamma \leq 1 and BB is any positive constant in }f(R,T){\footnotesize f(R,T)}{\footnotesize \ gravity with particle creation. We have considered a simple parametrization of the Hubble parameter HH in order to solve the field equations and discussed the time evolution of different cosmological parameters for some obtained models showing unique behavior of scale factor. We have also discussed the statefinder diagnostic pair {r,s}\{r,s\} that characterizes the evolution of obtained models and explore their stability. The physical consequences of the models and their kinematic behaviors have also been scrutinized here in some detail.Comment: 21 pages, 23 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1603.02573 by other author

    Get PDF
Musculoskeletal disorders are typically characterised by discomfort (often persistent) and restrictions in mobility, dexterity and functional ability, reducing people’s capability to work and participate in social roles with associated influences on psychological welfare, and at a wider level influence on the prosperity of communities Information technology- has played a vital role in transforming India from a slow administrative economy into a land of innovational entrepreneurs. The aim of this review is to, critically analyze the literature and report on the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in information technology professionals. The review focused on computers users and software professionals. An extensive literature search was undertaken using google scholar and PubMed databases for last 10 years from 2011 to 2020. Further Following a thorough search of the databases, a total of 25 articles were evaluated. A number of articles reported a high prevalence of MSD, generally various studies have been done on information technology professionals and related to the work of IT professionals and studies on various risk factors also have been done in different states of India. 17 articles had selected for the study purpose in which prevalence study had selected for the review. The prevalence among the IT professionals is not uniform; however, Software engineers and computer operators appear to be more prone to neck, shoulder and back pain

Identification of novel peroxisome functions in yeast

Peroxisomes are ubiquitous cell organelles that play a central role in cellular lipid and hydrogen peroxide metabolism. These organelles also fulfill several non-metabolic functions related to stress and stress adaptation. Although they contribute to the generation of harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS), peroxisomes also possess enzymes to maintain redox balance and counteract oxidative stress. Peroxisomal defects in humans result in severe disorders which are often lethal, illustrating the importance of these organelles. The research described in this thesis aimed to identify novel peroxisomal functions in yeasts, which play an important role as simple model organisms in cell biology. We identified a novel peroxisomal protein with a functional peroxisome targeting signal (PTS). However, the absence of this protein did not affect yeast cells sensitivity to stress conditions. Next in our study, we demonstrated how nicotinamidase (Pnc1), which does not contain a PTS, is imported into the peroxisomes by piggybacking onto a PTS containing protein, glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (Gpd1). We showed that Pnc1 physically interacts with Gpd1 allowing its piggyback import to peroxisomes. We also identified a novel peroxisomal membrane protein, Pex37, which is required for peroxisome fission and segregation between the mother cell and the bud. Additionally, we explored the role of a vacuolar membrane protein, Vac8 and identified that it is required for ER-vacuole contact sites (NVJs) formation and vacuole inheritance. Identification of novel peroxisome functions will open doors to endless research possibilities to explore and provide a more coherent understanding of the role of peroxisomes in multiple cellular functions

Background: Lower segment caesarean section is one of the commonest operations performed now a day.It has been seen that in cases with previous caesarean section there is increased maternal morbidity and mortality due to placenta previa, adherent placenta and caesarean hysterectomy. The present study was conducted to know the fetomaternal outcome and intra and immediate post-operative complications in cases with previous two lower segment caesarean section. Methods: The present study was conducted in TMMC Moradabad between January 2017-January 2018.Total 68 cases were previous two lower segment caesarean section were included in the study. Neonatal outcome and intraoperative and immediate postoperative complications were seen in these cases. Results: In the present study majority of the cases were in 30-34 years age group (39.7%), the maximum number of caesarean sections were done between gestational age of 37-39.6 weeks (47.1%). Intraoperatively adhesions between uterus, anterior abdominal wall and bladder was seen in less than half of the cases i.e. in 42.6% cases. Out of 68 cases with previous two lower segment caesarean operated 13 cases had placenta previa and 4 cases had adherent placenta. Conclusions: The present study shows that the maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality is increased with increasing number of caesarean sections. So, there should be reduction in rate of primary caesarean section which can reduce the rate of placenta previa and adherent placenta in subsequent pregnancies

Background: Termination of pregnancy in second trimester continues to be a challenge in developing countries especially in rural areas. There is an exponential rise in complications of abortion along with advancing gestational age. The search is on for an ideal method of abortion which is reliable, safe and cheap. This study was conducted in Tata main hospital, Jamshedpur from 15th November 2012 to 14th November 2014, with the aim of finding an effective method to induce second trimester abortion within reasonable time with fewer complications. Methods: A total of 80 patients were studied to compare combination of mifepristone and misoprostol, with single drug misoprostol alone for second trimester abortion. The induction abortion interval (IAI), success rate and side effects were compared between the two groups.   .Results: There was a significant difference in the IAI in both the groups. The mean IAI was 196.28 minutes in study group whereas in control group IAI was 318.92 minutes. The success rate (complete abortion) was 97.5% in study group and 92.5% in control group, but this was not statistically significant. More side effects were observed in the control group. Conclusions: Mifepristone followed by misoprostol was more effective than misoprostol alone as it had a shorter IAI and fewer side effects.

Based on Brevity: Fiction in 140 Characters or Less

This paper examines how short-short stories published on social media platforms such asFacebook and Twitter experiment with brevity. It examines the use of devices such as planned spaces between words, colors, and enjambments, a genre called twitter fiction, to deliver the literary after-taste of ‘byte-sized’ fiction. What are the ramifications, requirements, and results of this form of brevity? Since the works are written and published on/for the digital media, what other aids supplement the reading process, if any? What forms of innovation does this conciseness allow? Two platforms of reading and writing short-short stories (of 140 characters or less) will be used to examine these questions: Terribly Tiny Tales on Facebook and Very Short Story (@veryshortstory)on Twitter
