    Stabilizing Craft Labor Workflow with Instantaneous Progress Reporting

    ABSTRACT Stabilizing workflow is a common goal of research in lean construction, productivity, and production control methods. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that the combination of location-based work packaging and near real-time progress reporting contributes to reducing workflow variability. Some authors agree that daily monitoring allows timely actions to correct deviations from the baseline, which can increase workflow reliability. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate this statement in practice. The drywall installation in a healthcare facility served as the scenario for the test study. Drywall activities were divided into multiple tasks. Tasks were associated with locations and individually monitored. Although drywall tasks with unresolved constraints with mechanical activities did experience variations, a comprehensive analysis showed that most variations of workflow were proactively reduced

    Transgressive learning communities: Transformative spaces for underprivileged, underserved, and historically underrepresented graduate students at their institutions

    In this article, we propose a new vision of educational development that reimagines how graduate instructors are socialized and professionalized in academic settings. We describe a transgressive learning community that empowers graduate instructors with tools to reveal, mitigate, and disrupt oppressive structures in higher education. Our learning community is founded on critical race and feminist conceptualizations of pedagogical inquiry in its design, implementation, and assessment to serve underprivileged, underserved, and historically underrepresented graduate students. We argue that the intersections of marginalized and graduate student identities create distinct experiences of discrimination, marginalization, tokenism, isolation, and impostor syndrome due to a lack of sustained teaching mentorship within the academy. The transgressive learning community model that we propose in this article functions to create spaces of transgressive and transformational pedagogical engagement for graduate students who exist at the intersections of these identities

    Adaptability and stability of carotenoids in maize cultivars.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the adaptability and stability of carotenoids in maize cultivars in the 2004/2005 growing season. Total carotenoids (TC), total carotenoids with provitamin A activity (Pro VA) (?g g-1) and grain yield (kg ha-1) were quantified in 10 cultivars at five locations. The chemical analyses were conducted in a laboratory of the EMBRAPA/CNPMS, in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais. The methodologies of Eberhart and Russell (1966), Lin and Binns (1988) and Rocha et al. (2005) were used to analyze adaptability and stability. In general, the linear regression model proposed by Eberhart and Russell (1966) failed to fit the Pro VA contents in the evaluated cultivars satisfactorily.
