"Quashed Quotatoes". Per qualche citazione irregolare (prima parte)

Il saggio presenta qualche esempio di citazione irregolare cioè non immediatamente riconoscibile, comprensibile o interpretabile: citazioni ambigue nel rapporto fra autore citante e autore citato, citazioni oblique e sfumate, deformate o parodiche. Nella prima parte, qui pubblicata, si esamina la presenza di George Meredith in un saggio di Max Beerbohm e quella di alcuni poeti ottocenteschi in un romanzo di Ivy Compton-Burnett.This essay presents some examples of irregular quotations, namely quotations that are neither immediately recognizable and clear, nor interpretable. On the contrary, citations appear rather ambiguous – especially in regard to the relationship between quoting and quoted authors –; indirect and blurred; distorted or parodic. The first part, here published, examines the presence of George Meredith in an essay by Max Beerbohm, and the presence of some nineteenth-century poets in a novel by Ivy Compton-Burnett

Controcanto. Per alcune citazioni esplicite nelle novelle di Matteo Bandello

Il saggio esamina le strategie della citazione nel novelliere di Matteo Bandello (pubblicato nel 1554 e nel 1573), soffermandosi su alcuni passi che utilizzano esplicitamente i grandi modelli trecenteschi (Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio) e alcuni autori contemporanei (Castiglione, Machiavelli, Bembo). L'analisi del rapporto fra l'opera bandelliana e la tradizione letteraria approda a un profilo contraddittorio e dissonante: diviso fra imitazione e censura, fra accettazione e parodia, fra obbedienza classicistica e vivacissimo senso critico.This essay aims to examine strategies of quotation in Matteo Bandello's collection of short stories (published in 1554 and 1573). In particular, this article will analyse some passages that explicitly employ fourteenth-century great models (Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio) and some contemporary authors (Castiglione, Machiavelli, Bembo). Indeed, the analysis of the relationship between Bandello's work and the literary tradition reveals contradictory and discordant aspects, such as imitation and censorship, acceptance and parody, obedience to classicism and lively critical sense

L'importanza del cinema nell'opera di James Joyce è stata più volte sottolineata dalla critica, soprattutto negli ultimi anni: pensiamo al ruolo suggestivo delle tecniche cinematografiche, ma anche all'ampio repertorio dei film che lo scrittore irlandese mostra di conoscere per passione di cinefilo. Meno studiato da questo punto di vista è Finnegans Wake. Il presente repertorio è dedicato alla presenza del cinema e dei film (ma anche dei registi e degli attori) nell'ultimo romanzo joyciano: catalogo provvisorio e al tempo stesso ipotetico, tenendo conto della molteplicità allusiva e della straordinaria apertura di un'opera che affida la sua interpretazione all'infinita pazienza e alla competente collaborazione di tutti i suoi lettori.Recently – particularly in the last few year – critics have highlighted the importance of cinema in James Joyce's works. We can think, for instance, of the evocative role of cinematographic techniques; in addition , being a cinephile, Joyce proves to know a wide variety of films. Finnegans Wake has not been much explored from this perspective. This article aims to highlight the presence of cinema and films (but also directors and actors) in Joyce's last novel: this is a temporary and hypothetical catalogue, due to Finnegans Wake's multiple allusions and to its requiring an infinite patience and a qualified collaboration of all its readers
