    The Effects of Entrepreneurship Education on University Students’ Attitude and Entrepreneurial Intention

    The study is informed by high number of graduate unemployment and possibility of making entrepreneurship as a carrier choice affected by entrepreneurship education course offered by the students. This study investigated the relationship that exists between offering entrepreneurship education course and students intention to become entrepreneurs in selected universities in north east Nigeria. The population of the study were all undergraduate students from five selected universities in north east Nigeria. Purposive sampling was used in selecting the five universities, while simple random sampling was used in selecting four faculties and respondents from each university. The data was gathered across two semesters using four point Likert scale, ranging from strongly agreed to strongly disagree. SPSS version 16, descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation were used in the analysis of the data. The results showed that the students agreed that there is positive relationship between offering entrepreneurship education and their intention to become entrepreneurs. The Pearson correlation results also showed that, there is positive relationship between offering entrepreneurship education course and students’ intention to become entrepreneurs.     The Effects of Saving and Saving Habits on Entrepreneurship Development

    Saving is an essential instrument for capital accumulation and formation which further enhance economic growth and development through investing the saved fund. This study examined the effects of saving and saving habits of individuals on entrepreneurship development in Jalingo metropolis, Taraba State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to: examine saving and saving habits of the respondents, assess the effects of saving and saving habit on entrepreneurship development, assess the effects of perceived financial wellbeing on entrepreneurship development. Multi-stage sampling technique was used. Wards were randomly selected from the existing ten wards in Jalingo metropolis.50% of the residential areas in each ward were systematically selected. Then 0.718% of the population in each of the selected residential areas were drawn. There were total of 130 respondents. Data were collected using structured questionnaire on five point Likert scale. The data for the study were analyzed using SPSS 16, descriptive and correlation statistics. The results revealed that 89.7% do save, 38.4% for education, 47.6% save regularly, and 54.7% save for perceived financial wellbeing, 52.4% do not collect loan. The correlation results revealed positive relationship between saving, saving habit, perception of financial wellbeing and entrepreneurship development.     Managerial competencies and small business venture performance: an emerging economies perspective

    Purpose — The challenges faced by most small-scale ventures in developing economies has largely been attributed to not just the environment issues, but also the poor human capacity of most managers to effectively make decisions that will ensure the continued survival of the business over a period. The objective of this research was thus to assess the effect of managerial competency on performance of SMEs.Method — We adopted descriptive survey research design for this study. We used a sample of 394 SMEs managers for the survey, which were selected using convenience sampling technique. This research relied on content validity and internal consistency measure for validity and reliability respectively. We used multiple regression with the aid of SPSSv23 for data analysis. Result — The outcome shows that managerial competencies affect the performance of small-scale enterprises. Also, we found that interpersonal competency of manager of SMEs is low, while the cognitive competency made the strongest unique contribution to explain venture performance. We conclude that to drive improved performance there must be effort targeted towards improving the skills of managers of SMEs in the country.Contribution — This research validates the resource-based view theory and contributes to expand literature on competency and leadership from an emerging economies context

    Succession Planning and Sustainability of Selected Family Businesses in Taraba State, Nigeria

    The purpose of this research was to analyze the effects of succession planning specifically, the selection of a family successor, a non-family successor, and mentorship on the sustainability of selected family businesses in Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria. The study uses a survey research approach, sampling 222 participants from a larger group of 500 family company owners, employees, and consumers. The Google Form tool was used to create a comprehensive online structural questionnaire. The data was analyzed using a multiple regression model. The study indicated that the sustainability of family enterprises is greatly affected by the presence of a successor and mentor who are not members of the family. Since choosing a family member as a successor does not guarantee the longevity of a family firm, the study suggests that family business owners choose successors based on their skills and experience instead. And as part of the family business's succession planning, the chosen successor should receive extensive mentoring

    This study seeks to evaluate the profitability of microfinance banks operating in Nigeria as a precondition of financial sustainability. Profitable banks tend to maintain adequate capital, high deposit base, high liquidity status and high loan quality.  Correlational research design was adopted for the study and balanced panel data was used.  Financial sustainability microfinance banks were profiled on size, capital adequacy and liquidity status, deposit base and loan quality following a balanced panel design. Multiple regression was used to analyze the data collected. The study reveals low level of profitability and sustainability, and hence recommends that Government and Monetary authorities (CBN) should increase the capital requirements for the establishment of Microfinance Banks as the current requirements are inadequate; embark on effective monitoring of the activities of Microfinance Banks; and promulgate policies that will enhance transparency, proper accountability and competition in the sector to attract more credible investors
