In this project, USY zeolite supported NiMo, CoMo, NiW and CoW were prepared using the incipient wetness method. Over NiWIUSY catalyst, the total conversion and distillate fuels were 15.54 and 15.77 wt%, respectively higher than those obtained over unloaded USY zeolite. Then NiWIUSY catalyst with different nickel and tungsten loadings were prepared. It was observed that at tungsten and nickel loadings of 23 and 5 wt%, the total conversion and yield of total distillate fuels were 63.35 and 52.35 wt%, respectively

The immoral behavior among school students raises concerns and question of to what extent the process of characters building is in line with the guidances of Allah SWT as contained in the Quran. It is not sole responsibility of the parents but teachers also played a role in shaping the personality of students through formal education in schools. Accordingly, the words of Allah SWT in surah Luqman contain a guide to develop character building of a student that can contribute towards the development of better generations blessed by Allah SWT. The purpose of this research is to study the interpretation of surah Luqman verse 12-19 by Tafsir al-Quran al-'Azim and Tafsir al-Azhar in identifying the basic characteristics of the formation of the personality of pious students at Hidayah Islamic Primary School, Johor Bahru. In addition, this research also examines the approaches of teachers in shaping the personality of a pious students as well as suggesting Luqman’s guidelines for the establishment personality. Research was conducted in qualitative methods by analysing documents consisting of the Quran, Hadith, Tafsir books, journals and scholarly books. Meanwhile, the data obtained from the literature review and semi-structured interviews were analyzed using the method of content analysis using NVivo software version 10. The validity and reliability of results are made by the method of triangulation data between documents and interviews of different respondents. Results showed that there are 15 basic characteristics of the formation of the personality of students and 11 pious formation approach that include aspects of faith, worship and morality. The implications of the research proved that the aspects highlighted in surah Luqman verse 12-19 are able to produce guidelines of pious character building of students towards building a harmonious society and a generation blessed by Allah SWT

Selective glycerol esterification over organomontmorillonite catalysts

    Get PDF
Organomontmorillonites were synthesized by grafting cationic surfactants i.e quaternary ammonium compounds into the interlayer space and were characterized using XRD, FTIR and N2 adsorption/ desorption analysis. The organomontmorillonites were applied as catalyst for the esterification of glycerol (GL) with lauric acid (LA). The catalyst which had symmetrical onium salts (tetrabuthylammoniumbromide, TBAB) gave higher activity than that of unsymmetrical onium salts (cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide, CTAB). Over the TBAB-montmorillonite catalyst, glycerol monolaurate was obtained with a selectivity of about 80%, a lauric acid conversion of about 71% and a glycerol monolaurate yield of about 57%

Tremendous increase in generation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) has become a major concern for the Ma-laysian government as the country experiencing rapid development. It was estimated about 16000 tones/day MSW is produced at national level and in Kuala Lumpur alone about 2500 tones/day

Molecular dynamics approach on intermolecular interaction between n-icosane and gemini surfactant assisted nanoparticles

Wax molecules tend to aggregate, and form wax solid at low temperature and result in a wax deposition. Chemical wax inhibitors are introduced to prevent wax deposition. However, the performance of chemical wax inhibitors is temperature dependent. Computational method using Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation is used in this research to investigate how temperature affects wax inhibition using 2,5,8,11 Tetramethyl 6 dodecyn-5,8 Diol Ethoxylate Gemini surfactant (GS) and nanoparticles silicon dioxide (NP1), tin oxide (NP2), and nickel oxide (NP3). Wax-wax interaction of H58⋯H61of n-icosane and wax-solute interaction of hydrogen atom from n-icosane wax and carbonyl oxygen atoms from GS and NPs was investigated via radial distribution function analysis (rdf). The findings revealed that GS/NPs blends have a better chance of wax inhibition than corresponding individuals. Besides that, wax-wax interaction was strongest at 288K, indicating the higher chances of wax formation at low temperature. MD simulation is a promising tool for identifying atoms responsible for the wax formation and inhibition and can be used for chemical wax inhibitor screening for different temperature

Composite MCM-41/ZSM-5 as a cracking catalyst for the production of liquid fuel from used palm oil

    Get PDF
The gradual depletion of fossil fuel and drastically increase of the price of petrol have driven researchers looking into a new source of sustainable energy resources. Biofuel production from vegetable oils such as canola oil (Idem et al., 1996) and palm oil (Twaiq et al., 2003) are recently being studied over different types of cracking catalysts. With biofuel produced from the vegetable oil, the green house effect and air pollution can be minimized due to the recycling of carbon source from the air to the plant in closed cycle compare to the fossil fuels. Nevertheless, the high cost of the vegetable oil in comparison to the price of fossil fuel was one of the main reasons for not taking off the growth of biorefinery for production of fuels and chemicals from sustainable resources

Design analysis of open and ducted propellers in UAV application

    Get PDF
The aim of the study was to determine the feasibility of implementing a ducted propeller system for small scale drones. 5” propeller drones are common in first person view (FPV) drone racing and cinematography, increasing the likelihood of injury due to untrained pilots, of which the majority are laceration injuries due to the propeller blades. Furthermore, the addition of a duct improves the thrust output of the entire system. A few key parameters are identified, of which were manipulated to determine the optimum values through a series of ANSYS Fluent CFD simulations. Introducing a duct is shown to reduce the lift a propeller produces; however, the reduction is offset by the lift generated by the duct. Blade tip clearance was investigated, with the optimum value found to be 0.25 mm, producing the most lift from the duct and least reduction of propeller lift, and with thrust outputs up to 35.568% more in some cases compared to open propeller. It was observed that increasing the BTC significantly reduced duct lift. Diffuser length simulations provided unconclusive results, with the duct lift varying depending on the diffuser length. However, the optimum diffuser length was determined to be 65 mm with respect to thrust outputs. In comparison, inlet lip radius shows a clear pattern, deviating from the optimum value of 16.5 mm reduces the duct lift produced, with smaller values severely decreasing performance
