    An object that defies stereotypes : X-ray observations of SBS 1150+599A - the binary nucleus of PN G135.9+55.9

    We present X-ray observations of the close binary nucleus of the planetary nebula (PN) PN G135.9+55.9 obtained with the XMM satellite. The nebula is the most oxygen-poor PN known to date and is located in the Galactic halo. It is known to harbor a close binary nucleus of which only one component can be observed in optical-UV range. New X-ray observations show that the invisible component is a very hot compact star. This finding allows us to reconstruct the immediate past of the object and predict its future. The parameters of the binary components we determine strongly suggest that the precursor was a symbiotic supersoft X-ray source that finished its life by Roche lobe overflow. PN G135.9+55.9 is an excellent candidate for a future type Ia supernova

Recent studies have proven however, that CK Vul cannot be unambiguously classified as any known kind of eruptive variable. We present the optical and radio observations of the remnants of the eruption of CK Vul in the year 1670 in order to discuss possible scenarios for this object. We have measured the proper motion which proves that the nebula is attributed to the star observed during its 1670−1672 brightening. A large bipolar nebula of 70 arcsec is discovered in a deep Hα image. Radio observations reveal a barely resolved source placed in the expansion center of the ejecta

    Reverse Shock Emission Revealed in Early Photometry in the Candidate Short GRB 180418A

    International audienceWe present observations of the possible short GRB 180418A in γ\gamma-rays, X-rays, and in the optical. Early optical photometry with the TAROT and RATIR instruments show a bright peak (\approx 14.2 AB mag) between T+28T+28 and T+90T+90 seconds that we interpret as the signature of a reversal shock. Later observations can be modeled by a standard forward shock model and show no evidence of jet break, allowing us to constrain the jet collimation to θj>7\theta_j> 7^\circ. Using deep late-time optical observations we place an upper limit of r>24r>24 AB mag on any underlying host galaxy. The detection of the afterglow in the \textit{Swift} UV filters constrains the GRB redshift to z<1.3z<1.3 and places an upper bound on the γ\gamma-ray isotropic equivalent energy Eγ,iso<3×1051E_{\rm{\gamma,iso}} < 3 \times 10^{51} erg. The properties of this GRB (e.g. duration, hardness ratio, energetic, and environment) lie at the intersection between short and long bursts, and we can not conclusively identify its type. We estimate that the probability that it is drawn from the population of short GRBs is 10\%-30\%

    A metamodel approach towards Self-Determination Theory: A study of New Zealand managers’ organisational citizenship behaviours

    The present study brings together the multiple dimensions of self-determination theory (SDT), the three facilitators (global aspirations, global motivation and mindfulness), the three needs (autonomy, competence and relatedness), and perceived autonomous support (PAS) towards the organisational citizenship behaviours (OCBs) of 386 New Zealand managers. SDT suggests that individuals with higher SDT dimensions will achieve greater motivation and wellbeing, however, few studies include more than one SDT dimension. The findings show that overall the majority of SDT dimensions were significantly correlated to OCB dimensions. Moderated regression analysis found that auntomous motivation was positvely rateled to OCBs with controlled motivations negatively rated to OCBs. PAS and most of the need satisfaction dimensions were also positively rated to OCBs. Intrinsic aspirations were related to OCBs individual only. PAS was also tested as a moderator of SDT dimensions, and five significant interactions were found to influence OCB individual and one to influence OCBs organisational. Overall, the highest levels of OCBs were reported by managers with higher than average PAS and those who rated highly on the SDT dimensions.. This study provides strong and consistent support that SDT dimensions influence OCBs, and the consistent influence of PAS highlights the importance of workplace context
