Evidence for guild structure in hyperdiverse mammalian communities.
43 pages : 1 map ; 26 cm.The ecological mechanisms that sustain high species richness in Neotropical bat communities have attracted research attention for several decades. Although many ecologists have studied the feeding behavior and diets of Neotropical bats on the assumption that food is a limiting resource, other resource axes that might be important for species coexistence are often ignored. Diurnal refugia, in particular, are a crucial resource for bats, many of which exhibit conspicuous morphological or behavioral adaptations to the roost environment. Here we report and analyze information about roost occupancy based on >500 field observations of Amazonian bats. Statistical analyses of these data suggest the existence of distinct groups of species roosting (1) in foliage, (2) exposed on the trunks of standing trees, (3) in cavities in standing trees, (4) in or under fallen trees, (5) beneath undercut earth banks, and (6) in arboreal insect nests; additionally, we recognize other groups that roost (7) in animal burrows, and (8) in rocks or caves. Roosting-guild membership is hypothesized to have a filtering effect on Amazonian bat community composition because some types of roosts are absent or uncommon in certain habitats. Among other applications of our results, cross-classifying bat species by trophic and roosting guilds suggests that the often-reported deficit of gleaning animalivores in secondary vegetation by comparison with primary forest might reflect habitat differences in roost availability rather than food resources. In general, ecological and evolutionary studies of Neotropical bats would be enhanced by considering both trophic- and roosting-guild membership in future analyses, but additional fieldwork will be required to determine the roosting behavior of many data-deficient species
The Claims Culture: A Taxonomy of Industry Attitudes
This paper presents an analysis of a familiar aspect of construction industry culture that we have dubbed 'the claims culture'. This is a culture of contract administration that lays a strong emphasis on the planning and management of claims. The principal elements of the analysis are two sets of distinctions. The first comprises economic and occupational orders, referring to two kinds of control that are exercised over the construction process; predicated respectively on economic ownership and occupational competence. The second refers to contrasting attitudes towards relationships and problem solving within these orders: respectively 'distributive' and 'integrative'. The concepts of economic and occupational order entail further sub-categories. The various attitudes associated with these categories and sub-categories are described. They are assessed as to their consequences for change initiatives in the industry
A Large, Uniform Sample of X-ray Emitting AGN from the ROSAT All-Sky and Sloan Digital Sky Surveys: the Data Release 5 Sample
We describe further results of a program aimed to yield ~10^4 fully
characterized optical identifications of ROSAT X-ray sources. Our program
employs X-ray data from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS), and both optical
imaging and spectroscopic data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).
RASS/SDSS data from 5740 deg^2 of sky spectroscopically covered in SDSS Data
Release 5 (DR5) provide an expanded catalog of 7000 confirmed quasars and other
AGN that are probable RASS identifications. Again in our expanded catalog, the
identifications as X-ray sources are statistically secure, with only a few
percent of the SDSS AGN likely to be randomly superposed on unrelated RASS
X-ray sources. Most identifications continue to be quasars and Seyfert 1s with
15<m<21 and 0.01<z<4; but the total sample size has grown to include very
substantial numbers of even quite rare AGN, e.g., now including several
hundreds of candidate X-ray emitting BL Lacs and narrow-line Seyfert 1
galaxies. In addition to exploring rare subpopulations, such a large total
sample may be useful when considering correlations between the X-ray and the
optical, and may also serve as a resource list from which to select the "best"
object (e.g., X-ray brightest AGN of a certain subclass, at a preferred
redshift or luminosity) for follow-on X-ray spectral or alternate detailed

Digital Single-Cell Analysis of Plant Organ Development Using 3DCellAtlas
Diverse molecular networks underlying plant growth and development are rapidly being uncovered. Integrating these data into the spatial and temporal context of dynamic organ growth remains a technical challenge. We developed 3DCellAtlas, an integrative computational pipeline that semiautomatically identifies cell types and quantifies both 3D cellular anisotropy and reporter abundance at single-cell resolution across whole plant organs. Cell identification is no less than 97.8% accurate and does not require transgenic lineage markers or reference atlases. Cell positions within organs are defined using an internal indexing system generating cellular level organ atlases where data from multiple samples can be integrated. Using this approach, we quantified the organ-wide cell-type-specific 3D cellular anisotropy driving Arabidopsis thaliana hypocotyl elongation. The impact ethylene has on hypocotyl 3D cell anisotropy identified the preferential growth of endodermis in response to this hormone. The spatiotemporal dynamics of the endogenous DELLA protein RGA, expansin gene EXPA3, and cell expansion was quantified within distinct cell types of Arabidopsis roots. A significant regulatory relationship between RGA, EXPA3, and growth was present in the epidermis and endodermis. The use of single-cell analyses of plant development enables the dynamics of diverse regulatory networks to be integrated with 3D organ growth.</p
The Ultraviolet-to-Mid-Infrared Spectral Energy Distribution of Weak Emission Line Quasars
We present Spitzer Space Telescope photometry of 18 Sloan Digital Sky Survey
(SDSS) quasars at 2.7 <= z <= 5.9 which have weak or undetectable
high-ionization emission lines in their rest-frame ultraviolet (UV) spectra
(hereafter weak-lined quasars, or WLQs). The Spitzer data are combined with
SDSS spectra and ground-based, near-infrared (IR) photometry of these sources
to produce a large inventory of spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of WLQs
across the rest-frame ~0.1-5 mum spectral band. The SEDs of our sources are
inconsistent with those of BL Lacertae objects which are dominated by
synchrotron emission due to a jet aligned close to our line-of-sight, but are
consistent with the SED of ordinary quasars with similar luminosities and
redshifts that exhibit a near-to-mid-IR 'bump', characteristic of hot dust
emission. This indicates that broad emission lines in WLQs are intrinsically
weak, rather than suffering continuum dilution from a jet, and that such

Clinical Trial and Postmarketing Safety of Onasemnogene Abeparvovec Therapy
INTRODUCTION: This is the first description of safety data for intravenous onasemnogene abeparvovec, the only approved systemically administered gene-replacement therapy for spinal muscular atrophy.
OBJECTIVE: We comprehensively assessed the safety of intravenous onasemnogene abeparvovec from preclinical studies, clinical studies, and postmarketing data.
METHODS: Single-dose toxicity studies were performed in neonatal mice and juvenile or neonatal cynomolgus nonhuman primates (NHPs). Data presented are from a composite of preclinical studies, seven clinical trials, and postmarketing sources (clinical trials, n = 102 patients; postmarketing surveillance, n = 665 reported adverse event [AE] cases). In clinical trials, safety was assessed through AE monitoring, vital-sign and cardiac assessments, laboratory evaluations, physical examinations, and concomitant medication use. AE reporting and available objective clinical data from postmarketing programs were evaluated.
RESULTS: The main target organs of toxicity in mice were the heart and liver. Dorsal root ganglia (DRG) inflammation was observed in NHPs. Patients exhibited no evidence of sensory neuropathy upon clinical examination. In clinical trials, 101/102 patients experienced at least one treatment-emergent AE. In total, 50 patients experienced serious AEs, including 11 considered treatment related. AEs consistent with hepatotoxicity resolved with prednisolone in clinical trials. Transient decreases in mean platelet count were detected but were without bleeding complications. Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) was observed in the postmarketing setting. No evidence of intracardiac thrombi was observed for NHPs or patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Risks associated with onasemnogene abeparvovec can be anticipated, monitored, and managed. Hepatotoxicity events resolved with prednisolone. Thrombocytopenia was transient. TMA may require medical intervention. Important potential risks include cardiac AEs and DRG toxicity

Gemini Near Infrared Spectrograph -- Distant Quasar Survey: Augmented Spectroscopic Catalog and a Prescription for Correcting UV-Based Quasar Redshifts
Quasars at most often have redshifts measured from rest-frame
ultraviolet emission lines. One of the most common such lines, C IV
, shows blueshifts up to , and in
rare cases even higher. This blueshifting results in highly uncertain redshifts
when compared to redshift determinations from rest-frame optical emission
lines, e.g., from the narrow [O III] feature. We present
spectroscopic measurements for 260 sources at
having
mag from the Gemini Near Infrared
Spectrograph - Distant Quasar Survey (GNIRS-DQS) catalog, augmenting the
previous iteration which contained 226 of the 260 sources whose measurements
are improved upon in this work. We obtain reliable systemic redshifts based on
[O III] for a subset of 121 sources which we use to calibrate
prescriptions for correcting UV-based redshifts. These prescriptions are based
on a regression analysis involving C IV full-width-at-half-maximum intensity
and equivalent width, along with the UV continuum luminosity at a rest-frame
wavelength of 1350 A. Applying these corrections can improve the accuracy and
the precision in the C IV-based redshift by up to
and , respectively, which correspond to
Mpc and Mpc in comoving distance at . Our prescriptions
also improve the accuracy of the best available multi-feature redshift
determination algorithm by , indicating that the
spectroscopic properties of the C IV emission line can provide robust redshift
estimates for high-redshift quasars. We discuss the prospects of our
prescriptions for cosmological and quasar studies utilizing upcoming large

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey Quasar Catalog IV. Fifth Data Release
We present the fourth edition of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Quasar
Catalog. The catalog contains 77,429 objects; this is an increase of over
30,000 entries since the previous edition. The catalog consists of the objects
in the SDSS Fifth Data Release that have luminosities larger than M_i = -22.0
(in a cosmology with H_0 = 70 km/s/Mpc, Omega_M = 0.3, and Omega_Lambda = 0.7)
have at least one emission line with FWHM larger than 1000 km/s, or have
interesting/complex absorption features, are fainter than i=15.0, and have
highly reliable redshifts. The area covered by the catalog is 5740 sq. deg. The
quasar redshifts range from 0.08 to 5.41, with a median value of 1.48; the
catalog includes 891 quasars at redshifts greater than four, of which 36 are at
redshifts greater than five. Approximately half of the catalog quasars have i <
19; nearly all have i < 21. For each object the catalog presents positions
accurate to better than 0.2 arcsec. rms per coordinate, five-band (ugriz)
CCD-based photometry with typical accuracy of 0.03 mag, and information on the
morphology and selection method. The catalog also contains basic radio,
near-infrared, and X-ray emission properties of the quasars, when available,
from other large-area surveys. The calibrated digital spectra cover the
wavelength region 3800--9200A at a spectral resolution of ~2000. The spectra
can be retrieved from the public database using the information provided in the
catalog. The average SDSS colors of quasars as a function of redshift, derived
from the catalog entries, are presented in tabular form. Approximately 96% of

A Survey of z>5.7 Quasars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey II: Discovery of Three Additional Quasars at z>6
We present the discovery of three new quasars at z>6 in 1300 deg^2 of SDSS
imaging data, J114816.64+525150.3 (z=6.43), J104845.05+463718.3 (z=6.23) and
J163033.90+401209.6 (z=6.05). The first two objects have weak Ly alpha emission
lines; their redshifts are determined from the positions of the Lyman break.
They are only accurate to 0.05 and could be affected by the presence of broad
absorption line systems. The last object has a Ly alpha strength more typical
of lower redshift quasars. Based on a sample of six quasars at z>5.7 that cover
2870 deg^2 presented in this paper and in Paper I, we estimate the comoving
density of luminous quasars at z 6 and M_{1450} < -26.8 to be (8 +/-
3)x10^{-10} Mpc^{-3} (for H_0 = 50 km/s/Mpc, Omega = 1). HST imaging of two
z>5.7 quasars and high-resolution ground-based images (seeing 0.4'') of three
additional z>5.7 quasars show that none of them is gravitationally lensed. The
luminosity distribution of the high-redshfit quasar sample suggests the bright
end slope of the quasar luminosity function at z 6 is shallower than Psi
