This paper deals with Ratcliffe's theory of existential feelings. This interpretation is placed in the broader context of Situated Affectivity according to which the phenomena of affectivity can only be explained through the analysis of the interaction of the subject in the surrounding environment. The theory of existential feelings interprets the subject's experience as an existential involvement in which he feels placed in a world that has a certain affective meaning. For example, he may feel in a safe, familiar world, full of possibilities in the future, or unknown, threatening, hopeless, etc. There are many different types of existential feelings. In this thesis I deal with those involved in the psychopathological experiences of Capgras delusions and depression. Furthermore, I analyze the criterion for circumscribing the experience of psychic suffering which according to Ratcliffe concerns a difficulty in feeling empathy towards people who are outside the existential feeling in which the subject feels involved. Through this analysis I intend to show that the theory of existential feelings allows us to interpret these phenomena in a deeper way because it considers the affective and cognitive experience in an existential perspective, therefore allowing us to highlight the foundation of our thoughts, emotions, perceptions and behaviors

Multinodular focal fatty infiltration of the liver: Atypical imaging findings on delayed T1-weighted Gd-BOPTA-enhanced liver-specific MR images

We report a case of pathologically confirmed multinodular focal fatty infiltration. MRI was performed after bolus injection of gadobenate dimeglumine (Gd-BOPTA, MultiHance (R): Bracco, Milan, Italy), a liver-specific paramagnetic, gadolinium (Gd)-based MR contrast agent that concomitantly enables the acquisition of a standard dynamic phase with timing strategies similar to those used for other extracellular fluid contrast agents, followed by a delayed T1-weighted liver-specific phase (the so-called hepatobiliary phase). In the present case, multiple rounded areas of fatty infiltration, although confidently diagnosed using chemical shift sequences due to a significant signal intensity reduction on out-of-phase images, were unexpectedly hypointense during the delayed liver-specific phase of Gd-BOPTA. Reduced Gd-BOPTA concentration during the liver-specific phase is generally correlated with liver malignancy. Since such lesions can be prospectively mistaken for metastatic disease, we performed a hepatic biopsy to establish a definitive diagnosis. Our empirical observations suggest that Gd-BOPTA uptake may be impaired in fatty infiltrated liver tissue. Because at present there is no report evaluating the kinetics of Gd-BOPTA in fatty liver, further studies are needed to specifically investigate this issue

Multislice spiral computed tomography angiography of mesenteric arteries

The introduction of multislice technology has improved and expanded the clinical applications of computed tomography angiography (CTA), and it is now possible to detect subtle vascular abnormalities. We optimised a high resolution CTA protocol to study the anatomy of mesenteric arteries with a multislice spiral CT scanner. We showed that multislice CTA produces images of high quality, with excellent anatomical visualisation of the main mesenteric trunks, and small collateral vessels. CTA may facilitate the diagnosis of vascular diseases, such as chronic mesenteric ischaemia, as well as acute disorders such as gastrointestinal bleeding

CARATTERIZZAZIONE PRESTAZIONALE E SVILUPPO TECNOLOGICO ESECUTIVO DI PANNELLI PREFABBRICATI PER L’ISOLAMENTO TERMICO DEGLI EDIFICI ESISTENTI

The emerging need of energy refurbishment of European building stock, in particular for residential buildings, requires innovative solutions to achieve high performance at competitive costs and low impact on the users. As part of a project funded by the European Commission within the Seventh Framework Programme, a new prefabricated panel has been developed for the energy retrofitting with exterior insulation. It was designed especially for the existing stock built between the fifties and the eighties, whose buildings are made of reinforced concrete structure and infill masonry brick in the empty box. This memory shows the results of the analyses carried out on two panel solutions with reference to mechanical properties, hygrothermal response and environmental impact. The research work also includes the production of lab scale samples for preliminary testing. The analyses were performed in the main section and in correspondence of critical points (joints between panels and anchor points to the wall) in order to drive the development of the detail design
