The diffuse neutrino flux from FR-II radio galaxies and blazars: A source property based estimate
Water and ice Cherenkov telescopes of the present and future aim for the
detection of a neutrino signal from extraterrestrial sources at energies E>PeV.
Some of the most promising extragalactic sources are Active Galactic Nuclei
(AGN). In this paper, the neutrino flux from two kinds of AGN sources will be
estimated assuming photohadronic interactions in the jet of the AGN. The first
analyzed sample contains FR-II radio galaxies while the second AGN type
examined are blazars. The result is highly dependent on the proton's index of
the energy spectrum. To normalize the spectrum, the connection between neutrino
and disk luminosity will be used by applying the jet-disk symbiosis model from
Falcke and Biermann (1995). The maximum proton energy and thus, also the
maximum neutrino energy of the source is connected to its disk luminosity,
which was shown by Lovelace (1976) and was confirmed by Falcke et al. (1995).Comment: 24 pages, 14 figures, to be published in Astroparticle Physic
A Recursive Restricted Total Least-squares Algorithm
We show that the generalized total least squares (GTLS) problem with a singular noise covariance matrix is equivalent to the restricted total least squares (RTLS) problem and propose a recursive method for its numerical solution. The method is based on the generalized inverse iteration. The estimation error covariance matrix and the estimated augmented correction are also characterized and computed recursively. The algorithm is cheap to compute and is suitable for online implementation. Simulation results in least squares (LS), data least squares (DLS), total least squares (TLS), and RTLS noise scenarios show fast convergence of the parameter estimates to their optimal values obtained by corresponding batch algorithms
Long term monitoring of bright TeV Blazars with the MAGIC telescope
The MAGIC telescope has performed long term monitoring observations of the
bright TeV Blazars Mrk421, Mrk501 and 1ES1959+650. Up to 40 observations, 30 to
60 minutes each have been performed for each source evenly distributed over the
observable period of the year. The sensitivity of MAGIC is sufficient to
establish a flux level of 25% of the Crab flux for each measurement. These
observations are well suited to trigger multiwavelength ToO observations and
the overall collected data allow an unbiased study of the flaring statistics of
