    Impurity in a granular gas under nonlinear Couette flow

    We study in this work the transport properties of an impurity immersed in a granular gas under stationary nonlinear Couette flow. The starting point is a kinetic model for low-density granular mixtures recently proposed by the authors [Vega Reyes F et al. 2007 Phys. Rev. E 75 061306]. Two routes have been considered. First, a hydrodynamic or normal solution is found by exploiting a formal mapping between the kinetic equations for the gas particles and for the impurity. We show that the transport properties of the impurity are characterized by the ratio between the temperatures of the impurity and gas particles and by five generalized transport coefficients: three related to the momentum flux (a nonlinear shear viscosity and two normal stress differences) and two related to the heat flux (a nonlinear thermal conductivity and a cross coefficient measuring a component of the heat flux orthogonal to the thermal gradient). Second, by means of a Monte Carlo simulation method we numerically solve the kinetic equations and show that our hydrodynamic solution is valid in the bulk of the fluid when realistic boundary conditions are used. Furthermore, the hydrodynamic solution applies to arbitrarily (inside the continuum regime) large values of the shear rate, of the inelasticity, and of the rest of parameters of the system. Preliminary simulation results of the true Boltzmann description show the reliability of the nonlinear hydrodynamic solution of the kinetic model.     Evidence of unconventional low-frequency dynamics in the normal phase of Ba(Fe1-xRhx)2As2 iron-based supercondutors

    This work presents 75As NMR spin echo decay rate (1/T2) measurements in Ba(Fe1-xRhx)2As2 superconductors, for 0.041 < x < 0.094. It is shown that 1/T2 increases upon cooling, in the normal phase, suggesting the onset of an unconventional very low-frequency activated dynamic. The correlation times of the fluctuations and their energy barriers are derived. The motion is favored at large Rh content, while it is hindered by the application of a magnetic field perpendicular to the FeAs layers. The same dynamic is observed in the spin-lattice relaxation rate, in a quantitatively consistent manner. These results are discussed in the light of nematic fluctuations involving domain wall motion. The analogies with the behaviour observed in the cuprates are also outlined

    Una aproximación al trabajo con niños especialmente dotados en matemáticas

    Este estudio se centra en el diseño e implementación de tareas que permitan a los futuros profesores identificar el talento matemático de los alumnos, al mismo tiempo que potencian en ellos su desarrollo. El trabajo fue realizado con estudiantes de entre 7 y 11 años, que participaron en cursos extraordinarios de matemática. La tarea se basó en la teoría de situaciones de Brosseau, con algunos conceptos de combinatoria y con movimientos en el espacio. En su desarrollo se utilizó material concreto como medio facilitador hacia la abstracción. Los futuros profesores debían observar la actividad de los alumnos y registrar todos los acontencimientos que, bajo su perspectiva, intervenían el la resolución de la tarea. En los resultados mostramos la potencialidad del trabajo desarrollado, cuáles fueron las características más destacadas que se potenciaron en los alumnos y cuáles fueron las identificadas por los futuros profesores
