Financial Stability in the Baltics

The authors test the hypothesis of procyclicality of banking sector results in the Baltic economies. Their estimates suggest that a slowdown in economic activity is likely to accelerate the growth of the nonperforming loan (NPL) ratio in the Baltics. They also support the hypothesis that a rapid growth of credit harms loan performance, most likely due to soft-loan constraints and macroeconomic overheating. Higher concentration in banking market coincides with relatively higher nonperforming loans. Estimating Coal Price Dynamics with the Principal Components Method

The future use of coal depends on environmental protection measures and the Kyoto Protocol, the price of CO2 emission coupons, consumption, new technologies, the price of other energy sources and the liberalization of the electricity markets. The prices of emission coupons will impact the costs of electricity energy production. Due to the relatively higher reference costs of alternative energy sources, we can not expect that the share of coal as an energy source will lower significantly as a source of electricity production in the future. From the point of view of regional economic aspects and the reference costs of electricity production, we could state that using coal in the near future is also tied to the socio-economic aspects of mining domestic coal. Using it in thermo plants is also enabled by the conditions of priority dispatching (since 2000) in the EU economies. We assessed the influence of prices and the use of other energy sources, environmental measures, energy efficiency and the influence of electricity market liberalisation on coal price movements. Our estimation shows that, if the prices of other energy sources and electricity increase, the price of coal increases. If the use of other energy sources increases, and if the gross uses of industrial waste and renewable resources increase, the price of coal decreases. Environmental protection measures contribute to an increase in coal prices. A higher quotient of energy efficiency decelerates the price of coal. Analysis of the Structure of Assets of Enterprises in Ukraine According to Economic Activity Анализ структуры активов предприятий Украины по видам экономической деятельности

This article presents a retrospective analysis of assets of the domestic enterprises according to economic activity. The structure-forming factors of the formation of the structure of assets of the managing subjects are distinguished. It is well-proven that a key role of the structure of assets of enterprises is played by the convertable and inconvertible assets. The charges of future periods do not influence substantially on formation of the assets of enterprise. The forecast of structure of assets of the domestic enterprises is presented for 2021 under the condition of prolongation of identified structural changes. Among the factors which prevent the economy of country from the development, the low level of the gross mound of inconvertible material assets; high material capacity of production and power consumption of GDP; price pressure of enterprises producing the intermediate products upon the enterprises producing the final products; low share of industrial enterprises which implement the new or improved low-waste, resource-saving and wasteless methods of treatment or production of goods are mentioned.<br>В статье проведен ретроспективный анализ структуры активов отечественных предприятий по видам экономической деятельности. Выделены структурообразующие факторы формирования структуры активов субъектов хозяйствования. Доказано, что ключевую роль в формировании структуры активов предприятий играют необоротные и оборотные активы. Расходы будущих периодов существенно не влияют на формирование активов предприятия. Представлен прогноз структуры активов отечественных предприятий на 2021 год при условии пролонгации идентифицированных структурных изменений. Среди факторов, которые препятствуют развитию экономики страны, названы: низкий уровень валового нагромождения необоротных материальных активов; высокая материалоемкость производства и энергоемкость ВВП; ценовое давление предприятий производства промежуточных продуктов на предприятия производства конечных продуктов; низкая доля промышленных предприятий, которые внедряют новые или усовершенствованные малоотходные, ресурсосберегающие и безотходные методы обработки или производства продукции

Reconstruction of dielectric constants of multi-layered optical fibers using propagation constants measurements

We present new method for the numerical reconstruction of the variable refractive index of multi-layered circular weakly guiding dielectric waveguides using the measurements of the propagation constants of their eigenwaves. Our numerical examples show stable reconstruction of the dielectric permittivity function $\varepsilon$ for random noise level using these measurements
