Previous issue date: 2008O presente artigo foi elaborado com base na leitura de capítulos de livros e artigos selecionados por consulta em base
de dados da Scielo e da PubMed, nos últimos dez anos, tendo como objetivo discutir aspectos do uso de medicamentos
por idosos. Esse tema torna-se particularmente importante face ao aumento da população idosa e ao emprego de
vários medicamentos por este grupo etário e à ocorrência relativamente comum de prescrições inadequadas, associações
redundantes e interações medicamentosas potencialmente prejudiciais. É importante verificar a qualidade da
administração de medicamentos aos idosos, assim como relacionar o tipo de droga utilizada com o perfil do indivíduo,
levando-se em consideração, além do estado fisiopatológico, fatores como sexo, idade e condições socioeconômicas.
A compreensão dos padrões de utilização de medicamentos pelos idosos é essencial para o planejamento e estabelecimento
de melhoras nos serviços de atenção à saúde.This article aims to discuss several aspects regarding the use of medicines among elderly people. This
topic has become particularly important due to the population aging and the special characteristics of
the use of medicines among older people. We carried out a search of Scielo and PubMed databases and
some selected articles were discussed. It is emphasized the need for a better understanding of the drug
use patterns as an important strategy to inform policies towards health promotion for older people
Comportamento sexual de camundongos machos expostos a agrotóxicos
Pesticides are currently most used for pest control and elimination in agricultural environments. Its indiscriminate use generates residues in the soil, water, air and food, which can cause several health disturbances in short and long term. This study aims to evaluate the effects of daily exposure of Methamidophos, Glyphosate and Mancozebe on the male reproductive system. We used 240Swiss mice, 120 male, 120 adult females, weighing 30g, 60 days old. Animals were randomly assigned to couples for prior sexual experience, following to treatment with pesticides at Anvisa's acceptable daily intake (IDA) dose for 15, 30, and 60 consecutive days with filming sexual behavior at the end of treatment. Glyphosate and mancozeb favored sexual behavior in 30 days of exposure. However, the insecticide metamidophos impaired consummation, performance or sexual performance within 15 days of exposure. This effect may be related to insufficient time to complete copulation, and poor effectiveness of previous sexual experience through sudden exposure to a product with potential endocrine disruption.Atualmente pesticidas são substâncias mais utilizadas na eliminação e controle de pragas em ambientes agrícolas. Seu uso indiscriminado gera resíduos no solo, água, ar e alimentos, podendo causar diversos distúrbios à saúde a curto e longo prazo. Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da exposição diária de Metamidofós, Glifosato e Mancozebe sobre o sistema reprodutor masculino. Foram utilizados 240camundongos Swiss, 120machos, 120fêmeas adultos, pesando 30g, 60 dias idade. Os animais foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em casais, para experiência sexual prévia, antes do tratamento com agrotóxicos na dose de ingestão diária aceitável (IDA) determinada pela Anvisa durante 15, 30 e 60dias consecutivos com filmagem do comportamento sexual. Os agrotóxicos glifosato e mancozebe favoreceram o comportamento sexual em 30dias de exposição. No entanto, o inseticida metamidofós prejudicou a consumação, o desempenho ou a performance sexual em 15dias de exposição. Esse efeito pode estar relacionado ao tempo insuficiente para completar a cópula, e a pouca eficácia da experiência sexual prévia mediante a exposição súbita a um produto com potencial disruptor endócrino
Analyses of the development and glycoproteins present in the ovarian follicles of Poecilia vivipara (Cyprinodontiformes, Poeciliidae)
The morphofunctional aspects of oogenesis of Poecilia vivipara were studied aiming to understand the reproductive biology and development of species with internal fertilization, particularly those belonging to the family Poeciliidae. The stages of gonadal maturation and follicular development were characterized using mesoscopic, histological, histochemical, and lectin cytochemical analyses. Through mesoscopic evaluation the ovarian development was classified in six phases of development: immature, in maturation I, in maturation II, mature I, mature II, and post-spawn. Based on microscopic examination of the ovaries, we identified the presence of oocytes types I and II during the previtellogenic phase and types III, IV, and V during the vitellogenic phase. As oogenesis proceeded the oocyte cytosol increased in volume and presented increased cytoplasmic granule accumulation, characterizing vitellogenesis. The zona radiata (ZR) increased in thickness and complexity, and the follicular epithelium, which was initially thin and consisting of pavimentous cells, in type III oocytes exhibited cubic simple cells. The histochemical and cytochemical analyses revealed alterations in the composition of the molecular structures that form the ovarian follicle throughout the gonadal development. Our study demonstrated differences in the female reproductive system among fish species with internal and external fertilization and we suggest P. vivipara can be used as experimental model to test environmental toxicity
