Green building toward construction sustainability: energy efficiency with material and design aspects

    Get PDF
In this globalization era, sustainable constructions have taken on some new steps to stimulate green building practice.Green building criteria basis are energy efficiency, material and resource conservation and sustainable design of the building itself.Energy efficiency still has a long way to go, due to some barriers that prevail in the practice of energy efficiency.Similarly, materials and design that are originally used have created various issues related to the environment and human health. In Malaysia, people’s level of awareness about green building is still low and they have minimum understanding and lack of familiarity about green materials and sustainable design.According to Klufallah, Nuruddin, Khamidi and Jamaludin (2014), 24% of total of carbon dioxide (CO2) comes from the construction sector in the Malaysia. Therefore, this study aims to look into building energy efficiency and materials and design employed in green buildings to achieve constructive sustainability and to establish the benefits of utilizing energy efficiency, green materials and sustainable design. This study will be done using a case of the construction sector in Malaysia. The data will be collected through an interview with several Property Development Companies or projects that apply the green building criteria. The recommendation is that more property development companies should be interviewed so that more comprehensive results can be gathered

THE MODERATING ROLE OF JOB EMBEDDEDNESS ON THE EFFECT OF ORGANISATIONAL JUSTICE AND ORGANISATIONAL LEARNING CULTURE ON TURNOVER INTENTION: A CONCEPTUAL REVIEW

    Get PDF
Purpose: Employee’s turnover has been investigated by many researchers as an organisations’ negative outcome. The organizations that facing high rates of turnover should examine the fundamental reasons that cause employees’ turnover in order to reach real solutions to this problem. For that, they should ask a dynamic question, why some employees stay and some leave? Methodology: The reasons may seem difficult and consistent to the preferences and necessities of the employees. From another aspect, the majority of research in the context of turnover intention have been conducted in the western contexts, therefore it is worthwhile to encourage more studies in non-western settings to discover new understandings related to the problem. Results: Malaysia is considered as one of the developing countries that is having high turnover of employees in many sectors. Consequently, this study proposed a research framework to examine the relationship between organisational justice (OJ)’s three dimensions (Distributive justice, procedural justice and interactional justice), organisational learning culture (OLC) and turnover intention (TI). Furthermore this study recommended the moderating role of Job embeddedness (JE) in this relationship. Hence, the suggested research framework will contribute to the body of knowledge through providing new insights

Materials and design in green building for sustainable constructions

    Get PDF
In this globalization era, sustainable constructions turn into the key to stimulate green building practice. One of the notable ways in practicing green building is through conservation of materials and resources and sustainable design of the building itself. Building materials and methods that are originally used have given rise to problems related to the environment and human’s health. In Malaysia, people are less aware about green building and they have minimum understanding and know-how about green materials and sustainable design. Therefore, this study aims to explore building materials and design employed in green buildings to achieve sustainability and to identify the benefits of utilizing green materials and sustainable design. This study was carried out using a case of construction sector in Malaysia. The data were collected via an interview with Eco World Development Sdn Bhd. The company utilizes materials like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for water and cable work installations, laminated timber and porcelain or ceramic tiles as flooring, creeper plants as the insulation material, and bricks and reinforced concrete for interior wall construction. The company also involves in recycle practice by reusing the form work in constructing the buildings. In addition, Eco World Development Sdn Bhd focuses on passive design such as cross ventilation and solar shading to reduce energy consumption.Due to time constraint, there is only one company that has been interviewed. It is recommended that more property development companies should be interviewed in order to obtain more comprehensive results

Energy efficiency in green building to achieve company sustainability

Energy efficiency is the key to achieve sustainability in green building.Lowering the energy consumption in construction is starting to become a significant improvement chance for many organizations. This research will identify the benefits of energy efficiency, explore the methods to apply efficient energy usage in green building, and explore the obstacles in attaining energy efficiency in green building.Even though green buildings use a lesser amount of energy compare with usual building, energy efficiency still hard to achieve, due to some barriers to put into practice energy efficiency. This study will interview a property development company in Malaysia. After analysis, energy efficiency contributed two main benefits in the company such as reduced greenhouse gases emission and lower the air pollution problem, and energy saving. The company implemented electrical feeding and sensor system in lighting system, passive design, and cross ventilation to achieve energy efficiency in their development projects. However, cost barrier, information barrier, and outdoor condition and climate barrier are the obstacles in attaining energy efficiency practices. Due to the time constrain, this research only able to interview one company. With the aim of getting more accurate result, should be interview more companies in the future research because of the energy efficiency cover a wide area in the construction field
