    Synthesis of Anthraquinone Derivatives and their Conjugates with 2\u27-Deoxynucleosides as New Probes for Electron Transfer Studies in DNA

    Anthraquinone (AQ) has been used in electron transfer studies in DNA. The focus of this dissertation is the synthesis of conjugates between AQ derivatives and 2’-deoxyadenosine (dA), which can be used to induce adenine oxidation in DNA. Different AQ derivatives were attached to dA via ethynyl or ethanyl linkers. If incorporated into DNA, these short linkers should enable regiocontrol for electron transfer from adenine within the DNA duplex structure. The challenge in working with anthraquinone-2’-deoxynucleosides conjugates is that they and their intermediates are insoluble in water and only sparingly soluble in most organic solvents. A strategy used to overcome this problem was the use of either tert-butyldiphenylsilyl (TBDPS) or 4’,4-dimethoxytrityl (DMTr) 5’-protected deoxynucleosides as starting materials. A water-soluble, ethynyl-linked AQ-dA conjugate with a 3’-benzyl hydrogen phosphate was synthesized using DMTr protection. The DMTr group was not stable to the hydrogenation required to make the ethanyl-linked AQ-dA conjugate with 3’-benzyl hydrogen phosphate. Hence the latter was synthesized starting with the TBDPS protecting group. Both of these syntheses were based on the Pd coupling between ethynylanthraquinone and 8-bromodeoxyadenosine derivatives. New conjugates between AQ and A, in which the AQ moieties have been modified with formyl, trifluoroacetyl and methyl ester groups as electron withdrawing substituents were also synthesized. The synthesis of these AQ-dA conjugates was based on Pd coupling between bromoanthraquinone and 8-ethynyldeoxyadenosine derivatives. This route avoided the use of ethynylanthraquinone derivatives that had extremely low solubility and photoinstability. Other anthraquinones with electron withdrawing groups (which should provide enhanced driving force to enable respective AQ derivative to oxidize adenine) were synthesized as models. Cyclic voltammetry showed that the conjugate with the two ester groups and ethynyl linker was the most easily reduced of the derivatives synthesized. Conjugates between AQ and dU were also synthesized. Those conjugates can potentially be used to oxidize guanine or adenine or they can be used as a deep trap for an electron in reduced DNA

    Assessment the Knowledge of the New Trends in Obesity Treatment among Female Students of Applied Medical Sciences in Umm Al-Qura University-Makkah

    Obesity is associated with numerous diseases and metabolic abnormalities. Treatment should begin with lifestyle changes that focus on behavioral modification, diet, and exercise. When lifestyle modification schemes are unsuccessful, drug therapy is an attractive option. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates dietary supplements, including those promoted for weight loss. Weight-loss supplements differ from over-the-counter or prescription medications in that the FDA does not classify them as drugs. In this study we Assess the knowledge and beliefs of students in Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences about new methods used for weight reduction.  The present study was conducted on 70 interviewed of students. Specific questionnaire was used to collect data about methods used for weight control. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS software version 19. The obtained data showed that student’s preferred physical activity and diet they have awareness about detox water but little awareness about Conjugated linoleic acid  and blood group diet.  The present study suggested that Healthcare professionals must make efforts to educate themselves and public about new methods used for weight control.     The kinetics of oxidation of the cobalt (II) complexes, [CoII(ADA)(Gly)(H2O)2]-, (ADA = N-(2-acetamido) iminodi-acetic acid and (Gly = Glycine) by periodate in aqueous acetate medium to cobalt (III) have been studied spectrophotometrically at 530 nm over the 30–50°C and a variety pH 4.57-5.25 range and I = 0.50 mol dm-3 under pseudo first order condition by taking large excess of oxidant [IO4-] and it obeys the following rate law: Rate=[CoII(ADA)(Gly)(H2O)2]-[H5IO6]{k4K6+(k5K7K5/[H+])}.     Construction of Codes By Hyper KU-Valued Functions

    Coding Theory is a mathematical domain with many applications in Information theory. Various type of codes and their connections with other mathematical objects have been intensively studied. One of these applications, namely connections between binary block codes and BCK-algebras, was recently studied in (Jun, Song,  Flaut ).In this paper, we will focus to one of the recent applications of KU-algebras in the coding theory, namely the Construction of codes by hyper KU-valued functions. First, we shall introduce the notion of hyper KU -valued functions, on a set and  investigate some of it’s related properties. Moreover the codes generated by a hyper  K U- valued function are constructed and several Examples are given. Furthermore, Example with graphs of binary block code constructed from a hyper  KU-algebra and hyper KU-algebra are constructed

    Evaluation of interleukin-9 expression as a potential therapeutic target in chronic lymphocytic leukemia in a cohort of Egyptian patients

    Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a common lymphoid malignancy that has a highly variable clinical course. Genomic features as zeta-chain-associated protein kinase 70 (ZAP70) expression and CD38 expression provide further differentiation of disease prognosis. Extensive studies have confirmed the oncogenic activities of IL-9 in lymphoma. The aim of the current study was to investigate the contribution of IL-9 expression to the pathogenesis of CLL and its correlation to other prognostic parameters.Methods: This study was conducted on 80 patients at diagnosis with CLL and 80 healthy controls. Using real time polymerase chain reaction and enzyme linked immunosorbant assay, IL-9 mRNA expression and its serum level were compared between patients and controls. They were both correlated with other prognostic factors.Results: There was an overexpression of IL-9 in CLL patients that correlated with modified Rai staging, ZAP70, CD38 and all hallmarks of an active and aggressive disease. The correlation between IL-9 upregulation and patient characteristics provided a direct clinical evidence for its contribution to the pathogenesis of CLL.Conclusions: Significantly higher expression of IL -9 measured at both the mRNA and the protein levels in patients with CLL that correlates with more complex course of the disease and worse prognosis may allow one to speculate its importance in the pathogenesis of the disease and its possible role as a potential therapeutic target

    Prevalence and Risk Factors of Irritable Bowel Syndrome in Female Students of Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences from Umm Al Qura University

    Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) means that the bowel doesn't work or function correctly. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors affected irritable bowel syndrome among university students. The present study was carried out during the period from 1432 to 1433 AH among 200 female students. Data was collected through a interview questionnaire Rome III Diagnostic Questionnaires. The present study indicated that mean ± SE values of height, weight and BMI were not significant change in non- IBS and IBS students. The frequency distribution of IBS according to the family number, data showed that 4 %, 6%, 8% and 35% of students live with three, four, five and more than of five members had IBS, respectively. Data with regard to abdominal pain or discomfort in the last three months showed that 30 ,32, 40, 20, 31 and 17 students chooses less than 1d/m, 2 to 3 d/m, 1d/w, more than 1 d/w and every day, respectively. There were 7% was often feel discomfort and have less frequent bowel movement, 13% was feel discomfort in most of the time and have less frequent bowel movement and 6% was always feel discomfort and have less frequent bowel movement. Result showed that 21, 19 and 1% of IBS were eating one, two and three snack foods, respectively, while 7% were eating one, two and three meals out the home daily. Conclusion: Our results concluded that food habits, mother's education, snacks numbers, favorite method of cooking and awareness of food causes had effect on IBS.
