This article examines the health of care givers working in a residential establishment for dependent elderly people. More precisely, it examines the care relationship which, according to the burnout model, is involved in the caregivers’ disorder. We reconsidered the relationship by analyzing the caregivers’ activity through a combination of work-clinic and ergonomic theories. We studied the effects of temporal constraints on the relationships with residents, and showed that protecting the residents’ humanity is the main issue at stake in the relationship. We likewise analyzed the activity reshaping processes that operate in the relationship. The article concludes with a discussion of work organization, changes in caregiver activities, and research intervention in the field of occupational health

Health, creativity, temporality : an analysis in clinic of work and in ergonomics of care activity in a residential establisment for older dependent people

Cette thèse interroge l'activité des soins aux personnes âgées en établissement d'hébergement pour personnes âgées dépendantes (E.H.P.A.D.). La question de la santé des professionnels est traitée en analysant l'activité de travail. Un examen des relations entre la notion de santé et les théories portant sur le travail montre l'importance de la créativité. L'activité recréée participe de la santé des soignants de plusieurs manières. Par ailleurs, la recherche-Action a révélé la nécessité d'étudier les multiples implications du temps dans l'activité. Fortement contrainte, l'activité se réorganise collectivement autour de la gestion du temps. Mais, en se recentrant sur le temps quotidien, l'activité des soignants paraît occulter le soin. Lors des relations, le soin est réinvesti. Mais ce sont également d'autres dimensions du temps qui sont convoquées : temps de l'échange, temps de vie, histoire professionnelle et histoire familiale... A partir de ces temps et histoires, l'activité peut être recréée par chaque soignant. Au terme de notre recherche, nous reconsidérons le rapport complexe de l'activité des soignants aux temps, les différents aspects de la créativité engagée, mais également la question du collectif.This thesis questions the care activity of elderly in a residential establishment for older dependent people. The question about the health of the professionals is examined through analyses of the work's activity. The examination of the links between the notion of health and the theories about the work shows the importance of creativity. The recreated activity pertains to the care givers' health by many ways. Besides this point, the research-Action reveals the necessity of investigating the numerous implications of time in the activity. Strongly constrained, the activity is collectively reorganized around time management. But refocusing on the daily time, the care givers' activity seems to occult the care. During the relationships, the care is reinvested. But there are other dimensions of time too that are summoned : exchange's time, life's time, professional's story and familiar's story... From these times and stories, the activity could be recreated by any care giver. The end of this research aims to discuss and reconsider the complicated connection between the caregivers' activity and times, the different creativity's appearances invested, and also the question of the collective

Ce troisième numéro de la revue PISTES pose un regard particulier sur la santé au travail de ceux et celles qui œuvrent dans le secteur de la santé, parfois à la limite du déséquilibre. Lorsque l’équilibre est rompu, le regard se porte ultimement sur la problématique des suicides professionnels, cette fois en agriculture. Toutefois, l’action sur les conditions d’exercice du travail ainsi que le soutien au développement des personnes peuvent contribuer à la reconstruction d’un certain équilibre. Deux contributions s’intéressent aux dimensions stratégique et pédagogique de l’intervention ergonomique et au développement professionnel comme leviers d’action possibles
