Ideal quantum gases in two dimensions
Thermodynamic properties of non-relativistic bosons and fermions in two
spatial dimensions and without interactions are derived. All the virial
coefficients are the same except for the second, for which the signs are
opposite. This results in the same specific heat for the two gases. Existing
equations of state for the free anyon gas are also discussed and shown to break
down at low temperatures or high densities.Comment: 17 page
Lepton Mass Effects in Single Pion Production by Neutrinos
We reconsider the Feynman-Kislinger-Ravndal model applied to
neutrino-excitation of baryon resonances. The effects of lepton mass are
included, using the formalism of Kuzmin, Lyubushkin and Naumov. In addition we
take account of the pion-pole contribution to the hadronic axial vector
current. Application of this new formalism to the reaction nu(mu) + p --> mu +
Delta at E(nu) approx 1 GeV gives a suppressed cross section at small angles,
in agreement with the screening correction in Adler's forward scattering
theorem. Application to the process nu(tau) + p --> tau + Delta at E(nu) approx
7 GeV leads to the prediction of right-handed tau polarization for
forward-going leptons, in line with a calculation based on an isobar model. Our
formalism represents an improved version of the Rein-Sehgal model,
incorporating lepton mass effects in a manner consistent with PCAC.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures. Typos in eq. 9 and 27 corrected. Numbers in
table I for coherent cross sections (RSA and RSC) corrected (normalization
error). Figs 3 and 4 changed accordingly. These corrections also apply to the

Eikonal Regge Model for Elastic Scattering Processes
The Frautschi-Margolis version of the Regge eikonal model is extended to include secondary Regge trajectories. Physical properties of the model are discussed. In particular, the "shrinkage" of dσ/dt observed at present energies (rapid shrinkage for pp and K+p, little or no shrinkage for π±p and K-p, antishrinkage for pp is related to the energy dependence of σtot pp and K+p nearly flat, π±p and K-p falling slowly, pp falling rapidly)
Experiences of counselors participating in an innovative project to develop a training program for specialized foster parents of youth (13–18 years)
Background: Children placed in foster care represent a vulnerable and distressed group that requires a high level of care. However, good training programs designed to address specific problems presented in specialized foster care are not easily accessible due to logistical, economic and structural barriers. The lack of easy access and a strong desire to provide high-quality services inspired counselors from a specialized foster care center on the frontline to initiate an innovative, developmentally relevant and locally grounded training program.
Aims: This study focuses on counselors’ experiences with the development of the training program and its impact on their work life.
Method: A qualitative research design within a participatory approach framework was used to understand the experiences of the counselors. All the counselors employed in the department and the leaders (n = 14) participated in the study. Data were gathered from participants, including the lead and second authors, using a semi-structured interview, and analyzed using thematic analysis.
Results: The analyses yielded three main categories: (i) Psychological Factors, (ii) Social Dynamics, and (iii) Leadership Style and Support. Each of the first two categories consisted of three subcategories. At the psychological level, the employees’ experiences reflected the psychological states and traits required to fuel the tasks required by the project. The social dynamics of working in a team influenced the work process and, in turn, were impacted by it. Lastly, leadership style and support provided the foundation for innovation to germinate and grow.
Conclusion: Engaging in a locally created training program was associated with a strong sense of collaboration and team spirit. Counselors reported high intrinsic motivation and a strong sense of personal pride and drive for their jobs. They were proactive in seeking colleagues with particular expertise and collaborated on project tasks despite differences. The leadership style reflected the presence of transformational leadership behaviors, signaling an organizational culture conducive to innovation. The study provides an example of how aligning employees’ personal aspirations with workplace goals and professional development can create a workplace in which employees feel it is enjoyable to go to work.publishedVersio
Electromagnetic Casimir energy with extra dimensions
We calculate the energy-momentum tensor due to electromagnetic vacuum
fluctuations between two parallel hyperplanes in more than four dimensions,
considering both metallic and MIT boundary conditions. Using the axial gauge,
the problem can be mapped upon the corresponding problem with a massless,
scalar field satisfying respectively Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions.
The pressure between the plates is constant while the energy density is found
to diverge at the boundaries when there are extra dimensions. This can be
related to the fact that Maxwell theory is then no longer conformally
invariant. A similar behavior is known for the scalar field where a constant
energy density consistent with the pressure can be obtained by improving the
energy-momentum tensor with the Huggins term. This is not possible for the
Maxwell field. However, the change in the energy-momentum tensor with distance
between boundaries is finite in all cases.Comment: 16 pages, typos corrected, published versio
