    PERSONALITY DYNAMICS OF LUCAS IN THE NOVEL MIRACLE ON 5TH AVENUE BY SARAH MORGAN

    This study examines the personality dynamics of the character, Lucas, in the novel Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan. The purpose of this study are: 1) Describing the character, Lucas, who experienced personality dynamics. 2) Describing the causal factors, the impact on the character and the completion of the personality dynamics of the character Lucas based on the psychoanalysis theory of  Sigmund Freud.  The presentation methodin this research is  qualitative descriptive method, namely data analysis in the form of descriptive literature. The results of the study are described as follows: (1) Lucas is a criminal book writer whose life is suffering from being abandoned by loved ones and work pressures. (2) As a result of the causes of the conditions of his life, the personality dynamics of the character Lucas occur, starting from anxiety, life instincts (eros), and death instincts (thanatos). Anxiety comes when the anxiety and despair that are felt due to being abandoned by his beloved wife give rise to  death instincts in the character Lucas to end his life. However, the presence of Eva, the character who is able to change Lucass life, dominated his life instincts by the id system in the form of his desire or libido towards Eva and also his efforts to survive for a better life. Keywords: Personality Dynamics, Figure, Psychoanalysi

    This article is entitled The Impact of Psychological Trauma on The Life of The Main Character in The Novel Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeymanâ€. This study aims to determine the factors and impacts of psychological trauma on the life of the main character (Eleanor). The method used in this research is descriptive method and uses library research data analysis techniques by describing the intrinsic and extrinsic elements that are contained in the novel. The theory used is Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis. Psychoanalytic theory is used with the aim of knowing the personality state of the main character by looking at her past history. The results of this study show that the house fire that was deliberately carried out by her biological mother had an effect on Eleanor's personality and life.Keywords : trauma; impact of trauma; main character; psychoanalysis

    THE STRUGGLE OF THE MAIN CHARACTER TO OBTAIN FREEDOM IN COLSON WHITEHEAD’S THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD

    Abstract This research, is an analysis on the main character’s struggle to obtain her freedom based on The Underground Railroad, a novel by Colson Whitehead. The purpose of this research aims at the displaying modes of oppressions that the main character has to undergo as a dark-skinned slave secretly trying to find  ways to escape. The data are analyzed with qualitative descriptive analysis method involving the intrinsic aspects and the theory of forms of oppression by Iris Young. In support of this study, library research technique is used for additional sources. The research results in the identification that the main character has to undergo fivefaces of oppression: exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialsm, and violence. Eventually, it turns out that both internal and external factors have brought her a success in escaping from slavery and in winning her freedom. Keywords : black-skinned, freedom, oppression, slaver

    AbstractThis research discusses the psychopathic behaviour of the antagonist, John Bristow, in the novel The Cuckoo`s Calling by Robert Galbraith. This research aims at identifying the characteristics and causes of  psychopathic  behavior of the  antagonist and the impact on others and himself. The research was conducted using descriptive analysis method and psychoanalysis approach. John, who has hurt others without remorse, is not afraid of repeating his crime. He is able to deceive and manipulate others, not to mention coldhearted, and has a lack of emphaty. Strong id and weak superego originating from John's lack of attention and affection from his parents and closest people are the causes of John`s psychophatic behaviour.     The purpose of this thesis is to point out the main character’s independence in Qaisra Shahraz’s The Holy Woman, and to identify measures that she has undertaken to fight for her independence in confronting the tradition in Pakistan. Using descriptive qualitative methods and feminist studies, it is  learned that the main character is a common but strong woman who must serve as a “Holy Woman” and “marry” the Quran.     This study aims to analyze the antagonist in order to show the form of terror through acts of terror committed by the antagonist in Nicholas Sparks See Me. Processing data in this analysis uses descriptive-analytical methods and literature studies that are based on intrinsic and extrinsic elements as well as previous research on psychoanalytic terror. Based on the results of the analysis, the antagonist committed to acts of terror to Maria and this is expressed through every act of terror that he does. In addition, the antagonist does not have a mental disorder and this action is purely carried out on the basic of the hatred he holds, then turns into a desire to take revenge by committing acts of terror over his daughters death.     Byronic hero is a type of Romantic Hero that was popular in the Romantic period in the 19th century. The purpose of this research is to identify Loki as a Byronic Hero in Loki: Where Mischief Lies by Mackenzi Lee. This research uses qualitative analysis methods with a structuralism approach, which focused on intrinsic elements of the novel such as character and characterization, conflicts, and symbols. By applying Michael Riffaterres theory of semiotics, this research describes the character traits of Byronic Hero through heuristic and hermeneutic readings on Lokis character describes the meaning of the symbols "godseye mirror" and "norn stones" on Loki's character, and  also matrices and hypograms in the novel.     This study discusses about the fight against gender-based discrimination in Yale Needs Women novel by Anne Gardiner Perkins. In the novel, discrimination is derived from heteronormative attitudes in the community. Biased heteronormative opinions are widespread throughout the community. The existence of these attitudes is nothing more than a continuation of the patriarchal ideologies inherent in cultural and political systems for centuries. This research uses qualitative analysis methods and contains a number of intrinsic elements in the form of characters and characterizations, settings, and plot as well as extrinsic elements, namely the perspective of cultural studies focused on patriarchal concepts and feminism. The results of the research prove that gender discrimination can be eradicate and women should fight to get their rights back.Keywords : discrimination; patriarchal concepts; feminism
