D. degree in 1950 showed that the years 1984- 88 were the period of maximum growth in research, and the most popular subject had been Academic Libraries. The LIS Department of Karnataka University is the most productive school in the field. Suggests some measures to prevent possible dilution of research work in this subject.</span
