Christian Thought in the Medieval Islamicate World: ʿAbdīshōʿ of Nisibis and the Apologetic Tradition
This book is the first monograph-length study and intellectual biography of ʿAbdīshōʿ of Nisibis (d. 1318), bishop and polymath of the Church of the East. Focusing on his works of apologetic theology, this study examines the intellectual strategies he employs to justify Christianity against Muslim (and to a lesser extent Jewish) criticisms. Better known to scholars of Syriac literature as a poet, jurist, and cataloguer, ʿAbdīshōʿ wrote a considerable number of works in the Arabic language, many of which have only recently come to light. He flourished at a time when Syriac Christian writers were becoming increasingly indebted to Islamic models of intellectual production. Yet he also composed many of his works during mounting religious tensions between Christians and Muslims following the official conversion of the Ilkhanate to Islam in 1295. In the midst of these challenges, ʿAbdīshōʿ negotiates a centuries-long tradition of Syriac and Arabic apologetics to remind his readers of the verity of the Christian faith. His engagement with this tradition reveals how anti-Muslim apologetics had long shaped the articulation of Christian identity in the Middle East since the emergence of Islam. Through a selective process of encyclopaedism and systematization, ʿAbdīshōʿ navigates a vast corpus of Syriac and Arabic apologetics to create a synthesis and theological canon that remains authoritative to this day
Nutritional approach in the prevention and treatment of knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent joint disease, considered the rheumatic condition with the greatest consequences in terms of socioeconomic impacts, especially knee osteoarthritis since it makes walking difficult. To date, there is no cure for OA, so available treatments aim to reduce symptoms such as pain and inflammation, maintain joint mobility, and limit the loss of function. As OA has a known inflammatory component, it is believed that nutrition can play a vital role in the prevention and ongoing management of OA. This article aims to analyze the available evidence in the prevention and treatment of knee OA with a dietary intervention that may play a potential role in the management of the disease. To carry out this literature review, articles were searched in the Scielo, Pubmed, and Bireme databases with the time frame of the last 10 years. The results showed that some nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants are widely discussed in the literature in the treatment and prevention of the disease. Management of free radicals is necessary and the influence of nutrients and diet on cartilage and OA metabolism may represent a long-term adjuvant alternative in the treatment of patients with knee OA. Effects of dietary modifications on lipid and cholesterol profiles, adequate vitamin levels, and weight reduction in obese patients may influence the course of the disease
Etoricoxib selective sensor based on uracil-5,6-diamino-2-thio hydrochloride as neutral carrier for potentiometric analysis in pharmaceutical preparations
A construction and electrochemical behavior of novel potentiometric membrane sensor responsive to the etoricoxib was described. The sensor was based on the ion-pair complex of etoricoxib (ET) with uracil-5,6-diamino-2-thio hydrochloride (UDTH) (ET-UDTH) as exchange sites in a PVC matrix with different plasticizers dioctyl phthalate (DOPH) (electrode A), dibutyl phthalate (DBPH) (electrode B), and tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) (electrode C). The electrodes exhibited near-Nernstian response for ET-UDTH over the concentration range 0.051-40.042 mM. The electrode offered significant advantages including long lifetime (about 2 months), excellent stability and reproducibility, good response time (10-25 s), and wide pH working range (pH 5-12). Selectivity coefficients of ET related to a number of interfering cations and some organic compounds were investigated, and there were negligible interference caused by most of the investigated species. The direct determination of 0.5-10 mM of ET showed an average recovery of 99.03-101.75 % and a mean relative standard deviation 0.40-1.88. The results were obtained by determination of ET in tablets using the proposed electrodes which were comparable favorably with those obtained by spectrophotometric method

Determination of Fluvastatin Sodium In Pharmaceutical Preparations Utilizing A Modified Carbon Paste Electrode
A simple, rapid and sensitive method for the determination of fluvastatin sodium (FLS) in pharmaceutical preparations using two modified carbon paste electrodes were developed. One electrode (sensor A) is based on ion-associations of fluvastatin sodium (FLS) with 5,6 diamino-2-thiouracil hydrochloride (DTUH) and the other (sensor B) with a mixture of FLS -with sodium cobaltinitrite (FLS-CoN) and (FLS-DTUH). Among three different solvent mediators tested, dioctylphthalate (DOPH), exhibited a proper behavior including Nernstian slopes of the calibration curve at 57.78±0.4 and 57.18±0.8mV per decade for sensors A and B. The response times were 8 and 5 s; detection limits 4.9×10−7 and 2.2×10−7 M; the concentration range 9.0×10-7- 2.5×10-1 M and 7.3×10-7 -2.5×10-1M respectively. The present electrodes show good discrimination of fluvastatin sodium (FLS) from several inorganic, organic ions, sugars and some common drug excipients. The sensors were applied for the determination of fluvastatin sodium in pharmaceutical preparations using potentiometric determination, standard addition and the calibration curve methods. The results obtained were satisfactory with excellent percentage recovery comparable and sometimes better than those obtained by other routine methods for the assay Keywords: key words, Potentiometric, modified carbon paste electrodes, fluvastatin sodiu
