An Explorative Study On Factors Associated With Neutropenia Onset And Severity Among Cancer Patients.
Neutropenia ialah satu keadaan apabila kandungan neutrophil dalam darah menjadi kurarg daripada 1500 sel/ μl dan ianya merupakan satu kesan sampingan biasa akibat kemoterapi kanser.
Neutropenia is a decreased in the absolute number of neutrophils in the blood to less than 1500 cell/ μl and is a common side effect of cancer chemotherapy
Vestibular schwannoma: anatomical, medical and surgical perspective
The term "acoustic" is a misnomer, as the tumor rarely arises from the acoustic (or cochlear) division of the vestibulocochlear nerve. The correct medical term is vestibular schwannoma, because it involves the vestibular portion of the 8th cranial nerve. They are benign, rather raretumors. They expand in size and grow larger; they can push against the brain. While the tumor does not actually invade the brain, the pressure of the tumor can displace brain tissue
Congenital neck masses: embryological and anatomical perspectives
Neck masses are a common problem in paediatric age group. They tend to occur frequently and pose a diagnostic dilemma to the ENT surgeons. Although the midline and lateral neck masses differ considerably in their texture and presentation but the embryological perspective of these masses is not mostly understood along with the fundamental anatomical knowledge. The article tries to correlate the embryological, anatomical and clinical perspectives for the same
A histological study of prostate
The work of anatomists and pathologists in the role of study of prostate has been significant. Starting from earlier times till modern time, the study of prostate has been a dynamic one and the basic anatomical knowledge of the prostate has undergone much change apart from the new techniques, micro invasive procedures and the chemotherapeutic approach for various disorders of the gland. The present study was based on the microscopic examination of Prostatic tissue of individuals with individual tissues of different age groups. The present study involved 40 cases which were further subdivided into various age groups and characteristic histological changes were noted. The study presents an assessment of age changes in prostate in elderly in Kashmiri population with pathological significance. Besides the histological study is of great importance in staging of diseases of prostate and especially in modern era where the incidence and prevalence of prostatic diseases is on rise
An analysis of compulsive buying behavior: Questioning the role of marketing campaigns
This study defines the concept of compulsive buying behavior on the basis of available research as a buying behavior that is continuous and repetitive and it is stimulated in result of some negative feelings or events. Then it highlights the significant predictors of compulsive buying behavior discussed in literature by different authors. Study also incorporates the role of marketing practices play in compulsive purchasing of a consumer. This study adopts a qualitative content analysis approach. Only journal articles are included in analysis. Study questions the role of marketing campaigns polices and strategies in promotion of compulsive buying behavior. This study underlay’s some reservations on the ethicality of the marketing campaigns. Future recommendations are also discussed in the end. Key Words: Compulsive Buying Behavior, Marketing Campaigns, Ethicality
The anatomical, surgical and orthopedic importance of gastrocnemius
Gastrocnemius is one of the most important muscles of lower limb. It belongs to the superficial compartment of calf muscles. They belong to group of superficial flexors. Gastrocnemius, plantaris and soleus form the bulk of the calf. Gastrocnemius forms the belly of the calf. It arises by two distinct heads, connected to the condyles of the femur by strong, flat tendons. It has an immense anatomic, medical, orthopedic and physiological importance and is attributed in a variety of medical and surgical problems. A profound knowledge of this muscle is of great importance to any surgeon or orthopedicians or any clinician
Anticonvulsant, Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Activities of Berberis calliobotrys Aitch ex Koehne (Berberidaceae)
Purpose: To evaluate the anticonvulsant, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of Berberis calliobotrys. Methods: The powdered plant material (10 kg) was extracted thrice with methanol (3 × 12 L) by dipping for seven days. The methanol extract was concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure, and then successively fractionated with solvents of different polarity, including n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The anticonvulsant effect of the extract and fractions (at oral doses 500 and 1000 mg/kg) was studied against picrotoxin-, pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)- and strychnine-induced seizures in Swiss albino mice of either sex divided into 12 groups (n = 6). Diazepam was used as standard drug. Antimicrobial activity of the extract against Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus as well as against Candida albicans, Penicillium notatum was conducted by disc diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Cytotoxicity of the extract/fractions was analyzed by haemolytic method while the phenolic compounds present in the ethyl acetate fraction of the plant were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).Results: The extract and its ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions showed maximum response against drug-induced convulsions and provided 100 % protection to animals at both doses. They also showed zones of inhibition of 27.00 ± 2.51, and 22.00 ± 2.51 mm against all bacterial and fungal strains, respectively, especially Staphylococcus aureus. The methanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction also showed high MIC against all bacterial and fungal strains. Cytotoxicity data from hemolytic assay indicate that the extract/fractions are safe. The highest amount of phenolic found was chlorogenic acid (84.44 ± 0.06 ppm). Conclusion: The plant is thus a potential source of new lead compounds for the development of new clinically effective anticonvulsant and antimicrobial compounds. Keywords: Berberis calliobotrys, Anticonvulsant, Antimicrobial, Haemolytic, Phenolics, Chlorogenic aci
Assessment Of Chemotherapy Outcome And Adverse Event Management Among Solid Cancer Patients Of Penang Hospital
During this century, cancer has become one of the major problem and diseases
which has caused predominant death and will even surpass heart diseases. Both cancer
diseases and chemotherapy have many hazardous side effects which could also affect the
quality of life (QOL) of cancer patients.
Thus this study was performed to detect the main risk factors associated with nausea
and vomiting, anemia, thrombocytopenia and hypercalcemia and to evaluate effectiveness of
respective treatment guidelines. In addition QOL of breast cancer patients with nausea and
vomiting was also evaluated. Prospective and retrospective studies were conducted on solid
cancer patients admitted to Penang, Hospital. Data were collected by using direct person-toperson
interview for the prospective part (nausea and vomiting) and by using specific data
sheet for the retrospective part (anemia, thrombocytopenia and hypercalcemia). The
required data were collected from patients’ files kept in the oncology clinic and the record
office of the hospital
