    Studying the effects of minimal length in large extra dimensional models in the jet + missing energy channels at hadron colliders

    Theories of quantum gravity suggest the existence of a minimal length scale. We study the consequences of a particular implementation of the idea of a minimal length scale in the model of large extra dimensions, the ADD model. To do this we have looked at real graviton production in association with a jet at hadron colliders. In the minimal length scenario, the bounds on the effective string scale are significantly less stringent than those derived in the conventional ADD model, both at the upgraded Tevatron and at the Large Hadron Collider.Comment: Latex, 9 pages, 4 PS figs; final version to appear in Eur Phys J

    Enterprises across the world are increasingly depending on software to drive their businesses. It is more so with distributing computing technologies in place that pave way for realization of seamless business integration. On the other hand those complex software systems are expected to adapt changes dynamically without causing administrative overhead. Moreover software systems should exhibit fault tolerance, location transparency, availability, scalability self-adaptive capabilities to fit into present enterprise business use cases. To cope with such expectations software systems are to be built with a dynamic and self-adaptive software architecture which drives home quality of services perfectly. The point made here is that software systems are facing unprecedented level of complexity and aware of self-adaptation. Therefore it is essential to have technical knowhow pertaining to self adaptive dynamic software architecture. Towards this end, we explore present state-of-the-art of this area in software engineering domain. It throws light into dynamic software architectures, distributed component technologies for realizing such architectures, besides dynamic software composition and metrics to evaluate the quality of dynamic adaptation

    Robust Control of Input Limited Smart Structural Systems

    Integration of controllers with smart structural systems require the controllers to consume less power and to be small in hardware size. These requirements pose as limits on the control input and the order of the controllers. Use of reduced order model of the plant in the controller design can cause spill over problems in the closed-loop system due to possible excitation of the unmodeled dynamics. In this paper, we present a method to design output feedback robust controllers for smart structures in the presence of control input limits considering unmodeled dynamics as additive uncertainty in the design. The performance requirements for the design are specified as regional pole placement constraints on the closed-loop poles. The controller design problem requires the maximization of damping ratio in the presence of additive uncertainty and control input limits. The resulting optimization problem for the controller design is formulated as a generalized eigenvalue problem involving linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraints. The proposed controller is designed and implemented on a multiinput-multioutput 3-mass smart structural test article. The tradeoffs involved in the controller design are analyzed and the performance and robustness specifications are verified experimentall

    The Learning style of every individual is unique. We require some adaptive and personalization techniques to extract required learning content from enormous content available. An adaptive learning system is developed by considering learner’s knowledge. It takes the individual’s performance into consideration and modifies constantly by responding with student specific learning content. Based on the results obtained and on his/her choice of content displayed. Learner’s performance is observed and modelled, adaption is done accordingly through continuous appraisals conducted after each module and tweaked during interactions. Educational institutions have adopted the use of information and communication technology (ICT) at various levels ranges from communication, examination and even human resource management. This paper explores the use of e-learning in enhancing teaching and learning in educational institutes. Finally, the paper recommends that e-learning platforms should be used at various levels of educational institutions, government and education regulatory bodies should enforce the adoption of e-learning in addition to conventional teaching modes, and teachers should be encouraged to share learning materials and tasks to students using electronic means

    Intensive investigations on the development of titanium metal production technology had been carried out during 1965-1975 at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay and at the Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad. The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Hyderabad has set up a ‘Titanium Sponge Experimental Facility’ with a capacity to produce 100 tonnes of sponge per annum in 2000 kg batches by the Kroll’s process with a view to optimising technology for large scale production.The paper presents an outline of the experimental facility and discusses the various considerations that have gone into the design of equipment, materials of construction, process selection, etc. The facility has gone into operation in March,1985. The results obtained so far are encouraging
