On the strike bt seafood exporters at Visakhapatnam fisheries harbour in Andhra Pradesh
Visakhapatnam Fisheries Harbour Is one of the major fisheries harbours in India. Every day
about 275 to 300 small mechanised boats, 150 to 175 Sona boats and 150 to 200 Mini and
Mexican trawlers go out for fishing from this harbour. About 300 to 350 fish traders including local fisherwomen depend completely on this fish business for their livelihood. Each trader gets atleast Rs. 200/- per day
Unusual heavy landing of Decapterus spp. at Visakhapatnam
The Indian scad, Decapterus russelli locally known as pillodugu forms an important seasonal fishing in the small mechanical trawlers of Visakhapatnam contributing about 0.6 to 8.2% of the total catch during the period from 1998 to 2002
An experimental study of the smectic A-smectic C transitions in monolayer, partially bilayer and bilayer systems
The smectic A-smectic C (A-C) transition in several compounds has been shown to be mean-field-like (MF) with a substantial tricritical crossover effect. However, a simple MF behaviour, i.e., with negligible tricritical influence, had not been reported till recently. The heat capacity measurements of the MIT group in two compounds exhibiting the bilayer A2-C2 transition revealed such a behaviour. It is of interest to investigate whether a simple MF behaviour can be observed for partially bilayer AdminusCd and monolayer A1-C1 transitions also. We report the first systematic order parameter measurements in the vicinity of the A2-C2, Ad-Cd and A1-C1 transitions. The data analysed in terms of power law and extended mean field expressions provide clear evidence of a simple MF behaviour in all three cases. The significance of this result is discussed

Reentrant Peak Effect in an anisotropic superconductor 2H-NbSe_2 : Role of disorder
The reentrant nature of Peak Effect is established in a single crystal of
2H-NbSe_2 via electrical transport and dc magnetisation studies. The role of
disorder on the reentrant branch of PE has been examined in three single
crystals with varying levels of quenched random disorder. Increasing disorder
presumably shrinks the (H,T) parameter space over which vortex array retains
spatial order. Although, the upper branch of the PE curve is somewhat robust,
the lower reentrant branch of the same curve is strongly affected by disorder.Comment: 5 Pages of text, 4 figure
The effect of fortification of processed soya flour with dl-methionine hydroxy analogue or dl-methionine on the digestibility, biological value, and net protein utilization of the proteins as studied in children
The true digestibility coefficient, biological value, and net available protein of diets based on processed soya flour supplemented with dl-methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA) or dl-methionine (at a level of 1.2 g/16 g N) have been determined in children aged 8-9 years. The mean daily intake of protein by the children on the different diets was maintained at a level of about 1.2 g/kg body weight. Supplementation of soya flour with dl-methionine brought about a marked increase in the biological value and net protein utilization of the proteins. MHA was, however, slightly less effective than dl-methionine in this respect. The biological value and net protein utilization of the different proteins were as follows: soya flour, 63.5 and 53.3; soya flour + MHA, 71.5 and 61.4; soya flour + methionine, 74.9 and 64.7; and skim milk powder, 82.6 and 72.0
Manifestation of history-dependent critical currents via dc and ac magnetization measurements in single crystals of CeRu2 and 2H-NbSe2
A study of path dependent effects in single crystals of CeRu2 and 2H-NbSe2 shows that critical current density Jc of the vortex state depends on its thermomagnetic history over a very large part of (H,T) parameter space. The path dependence in Jc is absent above the peak position (i.e., H>Hp) of the peak effect region, which we believe identifies the complete loss of order in the vortex structure. The highly disordered field cooled (FC) state can be healed into a relatively ordered vortex lattice by subjecting it to a large enough change in dc field (few tens of Oe) or by shaking the field cooled state with sufficient ac field (few Oe)
Spin Susceptibility and Superexchange Interaction in the Antiferromagnet CuO
Evidence for the quasi one-dimensional (1D) antiferromagnetism of CuO is
presented in a framework of Heisenberg model. We have obtained an experimental
absolute value of the paramagnetic spin susceptibility of CuO by subtracting
the orbital susceptibility separately from the total susceptibility through the
Cu NMR shift measurement, and compared directly with the theoretical
predictions. The result is best described by a 1D antiferromagnetic
Heisenberg (AFH) model, supporting the speculation invoked by earlier authors.
We also present a semi-quantitative reason why CuO, seemingly of 3D structure,
is unexpectedly a quasi 1D antiferromagnet.Comment: 7 pages including 4 tables and 9 figure
