Analysis of the vp2 gene sequence of a new mutated mink enteritis parvovirus strain in PR China
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Mink enteritis virus (MEV) causes a highly contagious viral disease of mink with a worldwide distribution. MEV has a linear, single-stranded, negative-sense DNA with a genome length of approximately 5,000 bp. The VP2 protein is the major structural protein of the parvovirus encoded by the <it>vp</it>2 gene. VP2 is highly antigenic and plays important roles in determining viral host ranges and tissue tropisms. This study describes the bionomics and <it>vp</it>2 gene analysis of a mutated strain, MEV-DL, which was isolated recently in China and outlines its homologous relationships with other selected strains registered in Genbank.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The MEV-DL strain can infect F81 cells with cytopathic effects. Pig erythrocytes were agglutinated by the MEV-DL strain. The generation of MEV-DL in F81 cells could infect mink within three months and cause a disease that was similar to that caused by wild-type MEV. A comparative analysis of the <it>vp</it>2 gene nucleotide (nt) sequence of MEV-DL showed that this was more than 99% homologous with other mink enteritis parvoviruses in Genbank. However, the nucleotide residues at positions 1,065 and 1,238 in the MEV-DL strain of the <it>vp</it>2 gene differed from those of all the other MEV strains described previously. It is noteworthy that the mutation at the nucleotide residues position 1,238 led to Asp/Gly replacement. This may lead to structural changes. A phylogenetic tree and sequence distance table were obtained, which showed that the MEV-DL and ZYL-1 strains had the closest inheritance distance.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>A new variation of the <it>vp</it>2 gene exists in the MEV-DL strain, which may lead to structural changes of the VP2 protein. Phylogenetic analysis showed that MEV-DL may originate from the ZYL-1 strain in DaLian.</p
Photon upconversion through triplet exciton-mediated energy relay.
Exploration of upconversion luminescence from lanthanide emitters through energy migration has profound implications for fundamental research and technology development. However, energy migration-mediated upconversion requires stringent experimental conditions, such as high power excitation and special migratory ions in the host lattice, imposing selection constraints on lanthanide emitters. Here we demonstrate photon upconversion of diverse lanthanide emitters by harnessing triplet exciton-mediated energy relay. Compared with gadolinium-based systems, this energy relay is less dependent on excitation power and enhances the emission intensity of Tb3+ by 158-fold. Mechanistic investigations reveal that emission enhancement is attributable to strong coupling between lanthanides and surface molecules, which enables fast triplet generation (<100 ps) and subsequent near-unity triplet transfer efficiency from surface ligands to lanthanides. Moreover, the energy relay approach supports long-distance energy transfer and allows upconversion modulation in microstructures. These findings enhance fundamental understanding of energy transfer at molecule-nanoparticle interfaces and open exciting avenues for developing hybrid, high-performance optical materials
Mechanical Properties of MJ-Class Toroidal Magnet Wound by Composite HTS Conductor
An MJ-class superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system has a wide range of potential applications in electric power systems. The composite high-temperature superconducting HTS conductor, which has the advantages of carrying large critical currents and withstanding high magnetic fields, is suitable for winding an MJ-class magnet coil. However, the Lorentz force of an HTS wire is so large that its induced mechanical stresses should be examined to ensure that the magnet is in good condition. By means of the equivalent material properties method and the sequential coupling method, this paper studies the mechanical properties of a three MJ toroidal SMES magnet wound by a composite HTS conductor. Based on the electromagnetic-structural coupling analysis, the Von-Mises stress, the radial stress, and the hoop stress of a magnet coil are calculated and employed to validate the stability of the MJ-class toroidal SMES magnet

Hybrid Impulsive Pinning Control for Mean Square Synchronization of Uncertain Multi-Link Complex Networks with Stochastic Characteristics and Hybrid Delays
This study explores the synchronization issue for uncertain multi-link complex networks incorporating stochastic characteristics and hybrid delays. Unlike previous works, internal delays, coupling delays, and stochastic delays considered in our model change over time; meanwhile, the impulse strength and position change with time evolution. To actualize network synchronization, a strategy called hybrid impulsive pinning control is applied, which combines the virtue of impulsive control and pinning control as well as two categories of impulses (i.e., synchronization and desynchronization). By decomposing the complicated topological structures into diagonal items and off-diagonal items, multiple nonlinear coupling terms are linearly decomposed in the process of theoretical analysis. Combining inequality technology and matrix decomposition theory, several novel synchronization criteria have been gained to ensure synchronization for the concerning multi-link model. The criteria get in touch with the uncertain strengths, coupling strengths, hybrid impulse strengths, delay sizes, impulsive intervals, and network topologies
Examining the Impact of China’s Poverty Alleviation on Nighttime Lighting in 831 State-Level Impoverished Counties
China’s poverty alleviation projects have made significant contributions to global poverty eradication. This study investigates the impact of China’s poverty alleviation projects on nighttime lighting in 831 state-level impoverished counties using the “NPP-VIIRS-like” dataset and discusses the difference of land use change under different nighttime light clusters in order to provide reference for future policy formulation and implementation. Our results show that the growth of total intensity of nighttime lighting (GRTNL) and the year-on-year growth rate of total intensity of nighttime lighting (YGRTNL) in China’s impoverished counties are 103.74% and 9.69% from 2013 to 2021, respectively, which are both higher than the average levels of all counties (67.16%, 6.77%) and non-poor counties (64.68%, 6.56%) in China during the same period. Additionally, we discovered that impoverished counties that lifted out of poverty earlier had significantly higher nighttime lighting intensity than those later. Regional analysis reveals that the growth of nighttime lighting intensity shows a trend of decreasing from the central (1550.89 nW·cm−2·sr−1) to the eastern (924.57), western (762.57), and northeastern regions (588.07), while the growth rate decreases from western regions (282.46%) to the eastern (189.13%), central (178.56%), and northeastern (108.07%). We also identified that Gini coefficient of nighttime lighting has a trend of “slow and short-term rise-rapid and continuous decline”. Moreover, nighttime lighting growth had similar trends with land use change, especially construction land. Overall, our study provides novel insights into the relationship between poverty alleviation effects and nighttime lighting in China’s impoverished counties, which could inform future policy-making and research in this area
Screening of Potential Anti-Thrombotic Ingredients from <i>Salvia miltiorrhiza</i> in Zebrafish and by Molecular Docking
Background: Danshen (DS), the dry root of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge., has been used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for many years to promote blood circulation and to inhibit thrombosis. However, the active ingredients responsible for the anti-thrombotic effect and the underlying mechanisms are yet to be fully elucidated. Methods: Molecular docking was used to predict the active ingredients in DS and their potential targets by calculating the scores of docking between DS ingredients and thrombosis-related proteins. Then, a chemical-induced zebrafish thrombosis model was applied to confirm their anti-thrombotic effects. Result: The molecular docking results indicated that compared to the control ligand, higher docking scores were observed for several compounds in DS, among which salvianolic acid B (SAB), lithospermic acid (LA), rosmarinic acid (MA), and luteolin-7-O-β-d-glucoside (LG) could attenuate zebrafish caudal vein thrombosis and recover the decrease in heart red blood cells (RBCs) in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusions: Our study showed that it is possible to screen the potential active components in natural products by combining the molecular docking method and zebrafish in vivo model
