    Rashba spin-orbit coupling enhanced magnetoresistance in junctions with one ferromagnet

    We explain how Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), or in a conventional ss-wave superconductor, can lead to a large magnetoresistance even with one ferromagnet. However, such enhanced magnetoresistance is not generic and can be nonmonotonic and change its sign with Rashba SOC. For an in-plane rotation of magnetization, it is typically negligibly small for a 2DEG and depends on the perfect transmission which emerges from a spin-parity-time symmetry of the scattering states, while this symmetry is generally absent from the Hamiltonian of the system. The key difference from considering the normal-state magnetoresistance is the presence of the spin-dependent Andreev reflection at superconducting interfaces. In the fabricated junctions of quasi-2D van der Waals ferromagnets with conventional ss-wave superconductors (Fe0.29_{0.29}TaS2_2/NbN) we find another example of enhanced magnetoresistance where the presence of Rashba SOC reduces the effective interfacial strength and is responsible for an equal-spin Andreev reflection. The observed nonmonotonic trend in the out-of-plane magnetoresistance with the interfacial barrier is an evidence for the proximity-induced equal-spin-triplet superconductivity.Comment: This work is submitted to the special issue of Phys.     The effect of the social support on PTSD and PTG about university student volunteers in the prevention and controlling of coronavirus: with coping style as the intermediary

    To investigate the relationship among post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), posttraumatic growth (PTG), social support, and coping style of university student volunteers in the prevention and control of the coronavirus in 2020, a total of 2,990 university student volunteers (students who are enrolled in a university and involved in volunteer activities) from 20 universities in Sichuan Province participated in the prevention and control of the epidemic were investigated when March 20–31, 2020 when the coronavirus first occurred using the post-traumatic stress disorder questionnaire, posttraumatic growth questionnaire, university student social support questionnaire and coping style questionnaire. The results showed that (1) 7.06% of university student volunteers had some degree of PTSD symptoms (the total PCL-C score was 38–49), and 2.88% had obvious PTSD symptoms, (2) PTSD level of university student volunteers was significantly positively correlated with negative coping style, and significantly negatively correlated with social support and positive coping style; on the contrary, the PTG level is significantly positively correlated with social support and positive coping styles, and (3) Positive coping style plays a partial mediating role in the influence of social support on PTG; in the influence of social support on PTSD, the mediating effect of positive or negative coping style was not significant. These results show that in the prevention and control of the coronavirus, the positive coping style and social support of university student volunteers can positively predict the PTG level of them, while the negative coping style can positively predict the severity of their PTSD symptoms. Among them, a positive coping style plays a partial mediating role in the influence of social support on the PTG level

    Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Derived Exosomes Reduce A1 Astrocytes via Downregulation of Phosphorylated NFκB P65 Subunit in Spinal Cord Injury

    Background/Aims: Neurotoxic A1 astrocytes are induced by inflammation after spinal cord injury (SCI), and the inflammation-related Nuclear Factor Kappa B (NFκB) pathway may be related to A1-astrocyte activation. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation is a promising therapy for SCI, where transplanted MSCs exhibit anti-inflammatory effects by downregulating proinflammatory factors, such as Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF)-α and NFκB. MSC-exosomes (MSC-exo) reportedly mimic the beneficial effects of MSCs. Therefore, in this study, we investigated whether MSCs and MSC-exo exert inhibitory effects on A1 astrocytes and are beneficial for recovery after SCI. Methods: The effects of MSC and MSC-exo on SCIinduced A1 astrocytes, and the potential mechanisms were investigated in vitro and in vivo using immunofluorescence and western blot. In addition, we assessed the histopathology, levels of proinflammatory cytokines and locomotor function to verify the effects of MSC and MSC-exo on SCI rats. Results: MSC or MSC-exo co-culture reduced the proportion of SCIinduced A1 astrocytes. Intravenously-injected MSC or MSC-exo after SCI significantly reduced the proportion of A1 astrocytes, the percentage of p65 positive nuclei in astrocytes, and the percentage of TUNEL-positive cells in the ventral horn. Additionally, we observed decreased lesion area and expression of TNFα, Interleukin (IL)-1α and IL-1β, elevated expression of Myelin Basic Protein (MBP), Synaptophysin (Syn) and Neuronal Nuclei (NeuN), and improved Basso, Beattie & Bresnahan (BBB) scores and inclined-plane-test angle. In vitro assay showed that MSC and MSC-exo reduced SCI-induced A1 astrocytes, probably via inhibiting the nuclear translocation of the NFκB p65. Conclusion: MSC and MSC-exo reduce SCI-induced A1 astrocytes, probably via inhibiting nuclear translocation of NFκB p65, and exert antiinflammatory and neuroprotective effects following SCI, with the therapeutic effect of MSCexo comparable with that of MSCs when applied intravenously

    Polydiacetylene (PDAs) is a special semiconductor polymer with an alternating conjugated structure of ene-acetylene and unique optical and electronic properties. Typically, PDAs change from blue to red in response to the external stimuli, such as temperature, pH, ions, organic solvents, pressure, and donor-acceptor interactions. This colorimetric response of PDAs makes them one of the excellent materials for chemical or biosensor analysis platforms. In this review, we briefly describe the research progress of polydiacetylene systems in the field of food biotechnology. The challenges and outlooks of PDAs sensing materials in visual detection of preservatives in food innovatively were also discussed
