Over the past decades, drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains have presented a significant challenge, with inadequate diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) cases. Here, we report the draft whole-genome sequence of drug-resistant M. tuberculosis strain S7, which was isolated from a patient from Tripura, India, who was diagnosed with pulmonary TB

Drought and salinity stresses induced physio-biochemical changes in sugarcane: an overview of tolerance mechanism and mitigating approaches

    Get PDF
Sugarcane productivity is being hampered globally under changing environmental scenarios like drought and salinity. The highly complex nature of the plant responses against these stresses is determined by a variety of factors such as genotype, developmental phase of the plant, progression rate and stress, intensity, and duration. These factors influence plant responses and can determine whether mitigation approaches associated with acclimation are implemented. In this review, we attempt to summarize the effects of drought and salinity on sugarcane growth, specifically on the plant’s responses at various levels, viz., physiological, biochemical, and metabolic responses, to these stresses. Furthermore, mitigation strategies for dealing with these stresses have been discussed. Despite sugarcane’s complex genomes, conventional breeding approaches can be utilized in conjunction with molecular breeding and omics technologies to develop drought- and salinity-tolerant cultivars. The significant role of plant growth-promoting bacteria in sustaining sugarcane productivity under drought and salinity cannot be overlooked

Effect of color reconnection and rope formation on resonance production in p–p collisions in Pythia 8

Resonance production in proton–proton collisions at s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV and 13 TeV have been investigated using a Pythia 8 event generator within the framework of microscopic processes including color reconnection and rope hadronization. Specifically, the observable effects of different modes of color reconnections on the ratio of yields of mesonic and baryonic resonances with respect to their stable counterpart have been explored as a function of mean charged particle multiplicity. A suppression in the ratio is observed as a function of the mean number of charged particles for mesonic resonances. The ϕ/K\phi /\mathrm {K} and ϕ/π{\phi /\pi } ratios show an enhancement for high-multiplicity events due to enhanced production of strange quarks via the microscopic process of rope hadronization in the partonic phase. The mechanism of the hadronization of color ropes together with the quark–gluon plasma (QCD)-based color reconnection of partons predicted an enhancement in the ratio for baryonic resonances to non-resonance baryons having similar quark content. The yield ratios of resonances are found to be independent of the collision energy and strongly dependent on event activity

Embedding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in marketing education

There have been increasing calls for the marketing discipline to proactively engage with ‘doing good’ (Stoeckl & Luedicke, 2015), with marketing clearly embedded in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). For example, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) is central to Marketing. These calls essentially argue that marketing should create value not just for the shareholders but also for all stakeholders, including the broader community and the natural environment. Doing good includes alleviating poverty, mitigating climate change, and increasing gender equality. For example, Chandy et al. (2021) propose the Better Marketing for a Better World approach to proactively explore how marketing can engage with societal and environmental global challenges. It has long been suggested that marketing can be harmful or helpful in addressing global challenges facing society (Kotler & Levy, 1969). In this special issue, we take the view that the inherent strengths of marketing make it a critical player in overcoming the societal challenges associated with the UN SDGs. Additionally, we think it is important for marketing to embrace a broader firm purpose that goes beyond profits (Blocker et al., 2024)

Recent public health concerns of the high-altitude tribal population of Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh

Objective: India has a tribal population of 8.6%. Health concerns of the high-altitude tribal population in India play a vital role in overall socio-economic development and health transformation of the country. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the current health problems among the tribal population of Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Material and Methods: The study area encompasses one regional hospital (RH) in Keylong (the district headquarters), three community health centers (CHCs), and 16 primary health care centers (PHCs). In addition, the district has 37 sub-centers (SCs) and 21 Ayurveda dispensaries to serve the district. The data for this study were gathered over a 4-year period from records of daily out-patient department registration from the various health centers (RH, CHCs, and PHCs) from 2017 to 2020. Results: In terms of communicable diseases, the population in the concerned region was more likely to have acute respiratory infection, enteric fever, tuberculosis, and typhoid. Hypertension, asthma, bronchitis, and diabetes mellitus type II were determined to be the most common non-communicable diseases. Conclusion: Acute respiratory disease, hypertension, diarrhea, accidental injuries, and eye problems were shown to be prevalent in the study area. The population's position in relation to these five diseases indicates the community's sensitivity to a variety of common conditions. There is a need to review the needs and priorities of the concerned population and create goals and targets to meet those needs using validated public health measures
