Synthesis and dyeing characteristics of 3-amino- 1-arylazo-2- naphthols and 2-amino-1-arylazo-3-naphthols

3-amino-1-arylazo-2-napthols and 2-amino-1-arylazo-3-napthols, were prepared by
coupling 3-amino-2-napthol with substituted phenyl diazonium salts in alkaline
and acidic conditions and their dyeing performance on polyester and polyamide
fibres was assessed. The dyeings had red, red brown, red violet and blue violet
shades on polyster and red, red brown and red violet shades on polyamide. The
dyes showed good pick-up, poor to good light fastness, moderate to good
sublimation fastness, poor to moderate perspiration fastness and excellent
rubbing fastness.</span

2,6-dialkylamino-5-arylazo-3-cyano-4-methylpyridines were prepared and their
dyeing performance on polyester and polyamide fibres was assessed. The dyeing
had bright yellow shades with excellent pick-up and moderate light fastness on
both the fibres and moderate sublimation fastness on polyester fibre.</span
