Pion Leptonic Decays and Supersymmetry
We compute supersymmetric contributions to pion leptonic (\pi_{l2}) decays in
the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). When R-parity is conserved,
the largest contributions to the ratio R_{e/\mu} = \Gamma[ \pi^+ \to e^+
\nu_e(\gamma)]/\Gamma[ \pi^+ \to \mu^+ \nu_\mu(\gamma)] arise from one-loop
(V-A)x(V-A) corrections. These contributions can be potentially as large as the
sensitivities of upcoming experiments; if measured, they would imply
significant bounds on the chargino and slepton sectors complementary to current
collider limits. We also analyze R-parity violating interactions, which may
produce a detectable deviation in R_{e/\mu} while remaining consistent with all

Stability of atomic clocks based on entangled atoms
We analyze the effect of realistic noise sources for an atomic clock
consisting of a local oscillator that is actively locked to a spin-squeezed
(entangled) ensemble of atoms. We show that the use of entangled states can
lead to an improvement of the long-term stability of the clock when the
measurement is limited by decoherence associated with instability of the local
oscillator combined with fluctuations in the atomic ensemble's Bloch vector.
Atomic states with a moderate degree of entanglement yield the maximal clock
stability, resulting in an improvement that scales as compared to the

Library of medium-resolution fiber optic echelle spectra of F, G, K, and M field dwarfs to giants stars
We present a library of Penn State Fiber Optic Echelle (FOE) observations of
a sample of field stars with spectral types F to M and luminosity classes V to
I. The spectral coverage is from 3800 AA to 10000 AA with nominal a resolving
power 12000. These spectra include many of the spectral lines most widely used
as optical and near-infrared indicators of chromospheric activity such as the
Balmer lines (H_alpha, H_beta), Ca II H & K, Mg I b triplet, Na I D_{1} and
D_{2}, He I D_{3}, and Ca II IRT lines. There are also a large number of
photospheric lines, which can also be affected by chromospheric activity, and
temperature sensitive photospheric features such as TiO bands. The spectra have
been compiled with the goal of providing a set of standards observed at medium
resolution. We have extensively used such data for the study of active
chromosphere stars by applying a spectral subtraction technique. However, the
data set presented here can also be utilized in a wide variety of ways ranging
from radial velocity templates to study of variable stars and stellar
population synthesis. This library can also be used for spectral classification
purposes and determination of atmospheric parameters (T_eff, log{g}, [Fe/H]). A
digital version of all the fully reduced spectra is available via ftp and the

Lepton-mediated electroweak baryogenesis
We investigate the impact of the tau and bottom Yukawa couplings on the
transport dynamics for electroweak baryogenesis in supersymmetric extensions of
the Standard Model. Although it has generally been assumed in the literature
that all Yukawa interactions except those involving the top quark are
negligible, we find that the tau and bottom Yukawa interaction rates are too
fast to be neglected. We identify an illustrative "lepton-mediated electroweak
baryogenesis" scenario in which the baryon asymmetry is induced mainly through
the presence of a left-handed leptonic charge. We derive analytic formulae for
the computation of the baryon asymmetry that, in light of these effects, are
qualitatively different from those in the established literature. In this
scenario, for fixed CP-violating phases, the baryon asymmetry has opposite sign
compared to that calculated using established formulae.Comment: 26 pages, 5 figure
Hadron Spin Dynamics
Spin effects in exclusive and inclusive reactions provide an essential new
dimension for testing QCD and unraveling hadron structure. Remarkable new
experiments from SLAC, HERMES (DESY), and the Jefferson Laboratory present many
challenges to theory, including measurements at HERMES and SMC of the single
spin asymmetries in pion electroproduction, where the proton is polarized
normal to the scattering plane. This type of single spin asymmetry may be due
to the effects of rescattering of the outgoing quark on the spectators of the
target proton, an effect usually neglected in conventional QCD analyses. Many
aspects of spin, such as single-spin asymmetries and baryon magnetic moments
are sensitive to the dynamics of hadrons at the amplitude level, rather than
probability distributions. I illustrate the novel features of spin dynamics for
relativistic systems by examining the explicit form of the light-front
wavefunctions for the two-particle Fock state of the electron in QED, thus
connecting the Schwinger anomalous magnetic moment to the spin and orbital
momentum carried by its Fock state constituents and providing a transparent
basis for understanding the structure of relativistic composite systems and
their matrix elements in hadronic physics. I also present a survey of
outstanding spin puzzles in QCD, particularly the double transverse spin
asymmetry A_{NN} in elastic proton-proton scattering, the J/psi to rho-pi

Electroweak Beautygenesis: From b {\to} s CP-violation to the Cosmic Baryon Asymmetry
We address the possibility that CP-violation in mixing may
help explain the origin of the cosmic baryon asymmetry. We propose a new
baryogenesis mechanism - "Electroweak Beautygenesis" - explicitly showing that
these two CP-violating phenomena can be sourced by a common CP-phase. As an
illustration, we work in the Two-Higgs-Doublet model. Because the relevant
CP-phase is flavor off-diagonal, this mechanism is less severely constrained by
null results of electric dipole moment searches than other scenarios. We show
how measurements of flavor observables by the D0, CDF, and LHCb collaborations

Magnetization and EPR studies of the single molecule magnet Ni with integrated sensors
Integrated magnetic sensors that allow simultaneous EPR and magnetization
measurements have been developed to study single molecule magnets. A high
frequency microstrip resonator has been integrated with a micro-Hall effect
magnetometer. EPR spectroscopy is used to determine the energy splitting
between the low lying spin-states of a Ni single crystal, with an S=4
ground state, as a function of applied fields, both longitudinal and transverse
to the easy axis at 0.4 K. Concurrent magnetization measurements show changes
in spin-population associated with microwave absorption. Such studies enable

Identification and cost of adverse events in metastatic breast cancer in taxane and capecitabine based regimens.
PurposeWe sought to compare the economic impact of treatment-related adverse events (AEs) in patients with metastatic breast cancer (mBC) using taxane- or capecitabine-based treatment regimens as either first- or second-line (FL or SL) therapy in the US.MethodsWe used healthcare claims data from the Truven Health Analytics MarketScan® Commercial Databases to conduct a retrospective cohort study comparing the economic impact of AEs amongst taxane- and capecitabine-treated mBC patients in the US. We selected women diagnosed with mBC between 2008-2010 who received a taxane or capecitabine as first- or second-line (FL or SL) chemotherapy. Costs related to hospitalization, outpatient services, emergency department visits, chemotherapy and other medications were tabulated and combined to determine total healthcare costs. The incremental monthly costs associated with the presence of AEs compared to no AEs were estimated using generalized linear models, controlling for age and Charlson Comorbidity Index.ResultsWe identified 15,443 mBC patients meeting inclusion criteria. Adjusted total monthly costs were significantly higher in those who experienced AEs than in those without AEs in both lines of treatment (FL incremental cost: taxanes 1,817; SL incremental cost: taxanes 4,437). Total costs increased with the number of AEs and were primarily driven by increased hospitalization amongst those with AEs.ConclusionsAdverse events in taxane- or capecitabine-treated mBC patients are associated with significant increases in costs. Selecting treatment options associated with fewer AEs may reduce costs and improve outcomes in these patients
