    Statistical Analysis of Estimated Displacement Measurements using Digital Image Correlation

    This paper presents details of the statistical analysis of the estimated displacements on a sample of pearlitic steel. It is mostly used in construction, automobiles, and industries.   The displacement measurement of deformation is computed in the horizontal and vertical direction with pixel accuracy. Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is a non-contact technique to estimate u and v displacement. The deformation of the sample is computed using NCORR software. Detailed statistical analysis has shown that the displacements have a strong correlation between them

    Impact of parenting style and upbringing on menstrual stress in adolescent South Indian girls

    Background: School absenteeism because of major symptoms like dysmenorrhea has ranged from 14% to 51% and this has affected the participation of school going girls in school related activities. In developing countries, adolescent girls face health issues due to socio-economic, environmental conditions and gender discrimination. The parenting style has been explained by Baumrind, which harbours a particular coping mechanism. This study aimed to determine the level of stress in adolescent girls during menstruation using one of these standardised scales. Objective of this study was to assess stress levels during menstrual period among adolescent girls, problems faced during menstrual period and parenting skill effect on menstrual stress.Methods: This was a cross sectional study done on adolescent girls 13 to 19 years of age. The tool used in this study included demographic details, parenting style, (PSDQ scale), prevalence of stress (PSS). All the adolescent girls aged 13-19 years.Results: The study participants 54 (24.9%) felt stressed during the days of the menstrual period, 186 (85.7%) regarded their mother as the major source for menstruation related health issues, 112 (49.3%) did not get support from their family during the time of the menstrual period. Girls with parents who are very authoritarian 28 (31.5%) and very involved 34 (34%), had stress during the menstrual period.Conclusions: Parents play a very important role during the growing phase of an adolescent girl. The communication between parents and children related to menstrual health issues is dependent on educational status of the parents and their knowledge about menstrual health

    Propargyloxycarbonyl group is used as a protecting group for the hydroxyl groups of serine, threonine and tyrosine. The propargyloxycarbonyl derivatives of these hydroxy amino acids are stable to acidic and basic reagents commonly employed in peptide synthesis. The deprotection of the O-Poc derivatives using tetrathiomolybdate does not affect commonly used protecting groups such as N-Boc, N-Cbz, N-Fmoc, methyl and benzyl esters. The di-and tripeptides synthesized using O-Poc derivatives of serine, threonine and tyrosine are stable, isolable compounds and give the hydroxy peptides in good yields when treated with tetrathiomolybdate

    Simulation Analysis of DFIG Integrated Wind Turbine Control System

    Recently, scientists and academics are discovering progressive improvements in the arena of wind power technology economically and reliably, allowing them to produce electricity focusing on renewable energy resources. Wind turbines (WT) using the Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs) have attracted particular attention because of their advantages such as variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) operation, independent control capabilities for maximum power point tracking (MPPT), active and reactive power controls, and voltage control strategy at the point of common coupling (PCC). When such resources have to be integrated into the existing power system, the operation becomes more challenging, particularly in terms of stability, security, and reliability. A DFIG system with its control strategies is simulated on MATLAB software. This entails the rapid control prototype testing of grid-connected, variable speed DFIG wind turbines to investigate the WT’s steady-state and dynamic behavior under normal and disturbed wind conditions. To augment the transient stability of DFIG, the simulation results for the active and reactive power of conventional controllers are compared with the adaptive tracking, self-tuned feed-forward PI controller model for optimum performance. Conclusive outcomes manifest the superior robustness of the feed-forward PI controller in terms of rising time, settling time, and overshoot value

    PSYCHOLOGICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH BURDEN ON HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS IN A CANCER CENTRE DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC OUTBREAK IN INDIA

    Background: The outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is severely affecting the public health and posing a challenge to health care providers, especially working as front-line medical staff. This study was aimed to understand the psychological impact and mental burden of the present outbreak on Indian health care providers who are working at cancer care centre. Subjects and methods: A self-reporting online questionnaire was given to the multidisciplinary staff (n=344) and their mental health was assessed using various scales via GAD-7 scale for anxiety, PHQ-9 scale for depression, ISI for insomnia, K-10 for distress, and STAI for stress along with five self-made Pandemic specific questions. Results: Response rate was 91% (n=344) among 190 (55%) were male and 154 (45%) were female. The frontline and secondline workers were 178 (52%) and 166 (48%), respectively. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, insomnia and distress was observed in 62 (18%), 75 (22%), 42 (12%), and 60 (17%) of the participants, respectively. They were predominantly influenced by variables such as gender (female), education (≥graduation), co-morbidities, and level of work (frontline). Followed by other less dominant variables such as contact with patients (frequent), and working in hospital (<3 years), respectively. Conclusion: A mild to moderate level of psychological burden was observed in the health care providers. Overall, there is a need to address the mental health issues by providing, timely training, counselling, rotation in shifts, lowering workload and intensify the awareness programmes of the staff during this COVID-19 pandemic for better outcomes and promoting resilience in the staff

Anomaly Extraction is a method of detecting in large set of flow observed during an anomalous time interval, the flows associated with the one or more anomalous event. Anomaly extraction is important problem that essential for application ranging from root cause analysis and attack mitigation and anomaly extraction is also important problem for several application of testing anomaly detector. In this paper, use a meta-data provided by histogram detector for detect and identify the suspicious flow after successfully detection suspicious flow then applying the association rule mining for finding the anomalous flow. By using the rich traffic data from the meta-data of the histogram-based detector we can reduce the classification cost.     Cyto-histological correlation of salivary gland lesions- a prospective study in a tertiary care institute

    Background: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) has an essential proven role in diagnosing most of the common and benign salivary gland lesions. However, limited cellularity and morphological heterogeneity of the lesion can pose diagnostic challenges. The present study was conducted in a tertiary care centre over a period of one year with an objective to study the cyto-morphological features of salivary gland lesions and correlate cytological findings with histopathology.Methods: The study was carried out over a period of one year from January 2014 to December 2014. FNA specimens obtained from 78 patients were analyzed. Of these, only 51 patients underwent biopsy or surgery and their specimens were subjected to histopathological examination. Validation of cytological diagnosis was done on the basis of histopathological diagnosis.Results: A total 78 patients with salivary gland lesions were subjected to FNAC. Non neoplastic lesions constituted 19 cases (25%) and benign lesions constituted 46 cases (80.70%).  Malignant lesions constituted 11 cases (19.30%). Two cases were inconclusive due to inadequate aspirated material. Overall sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy were 95.98%, 99.20% and 98.09% respectively.Conclusions: FNAC continues to be an accurate diagnostic technique in the hands of an experienced cytopathologist. It is a highly sensitive and specific technique for rapid diagnosis of most of the salivary gland swellings

    Single view reflectance capture using multiplexed scattering and time-of-flight imaging

    This paper introduces the concept of time-of-flight reflectance estimation, and demonstrates a new technique that allows a camera to rapidly acquire reflectance properties of objects from a single view-point, over relatively long distances and without encircling equipment. We measure material properties by indirectly illuminating an object by a laser source, and observing its reflected light indirectly using a time-of-flight camera. The configuration collectively acquires dense angular, but low spatial sampling, within a limited solid angle range - all from a single viewpoint. Our ultra-fast imaging approach captures space-time "streak images" that can separate out different bounces of light based on path length. Entanglements arise in the streak images mixing signals from multiple paths if they have the same total path length. We show how reflectances can be recovered by solving for a linear system of equations and assuming parametric material models; fitting to lower dimensional reflectance models enables us to disentangle measurements. We demonstrate proof-of-concept results of parametric reflectance models for homogeneous and discretized heterogeneous patches, both using simulation and experimental hardware. As compared to lengthy or highly calibrated BRDF acquisition techniques, we demonstrate a device that can rapidly, on the order of seconds, capture meaningful reflectance information.     Acinar Transformed Ductal Cells Exhibit Differential Mucin Expression in a Tamoxifen-Induced Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Mouse Model

    Pancreatic cancer (PC) is acquired postnatally; to mimic this scenario, we developed an inducible KrasG12D; Ptf1a-CreER™ (iKC) mouse model, in which Kras is activated postnatally at week 16 upon tamoxifen (TAM) administration. Upon TAM treatment, iKC mice develop pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) lesions and PC with metastasis at the fourth and fortieth weeks, respectively, and exhibited acinar-to-ductal metaplasia (ADM) and transdifferentiation. Kras activation upregulated the transcription factors Ncoa3, p-cJun and FoxM1, which in turn upregulated expression of transmembrane mucins (Muc1, Muc4 and Muc16) and secretory mucin (Muc5Ac). Interestingly, knockdown of KrasG12D in multiple PC cell lines resulted in downregulation of MUC1, MUC4, MUC5AC and MUC16. In addition, iKC mice exhibited ADM and transdifferentiation. Our results show that the iKC mouse more closely mimics human PC development and can be used to investigate pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) biomarkers, early onset of PDAC, and ADM. The iKC model can also be used for preclinical strategies such as targeting mucin axis alone or in combination with neo-adjuvant, immunotherapeutic approaches and to monitor chemotherapy response

    Molecular Implications of MUC5AC-CD44 Axis in Colorectal Cancer Progression and Chemoresistance

    BACKGROUND: Differential expression of mucins has been associated with several cancers including colorectal cancer (CRC). In normal physiological conditions, secretory mucin MUC5AC is not expressed in the colonic mucosa, whereas its aberrant expression is observed during development of colon cancer and its precursor lesions. To date, the molecular mechanism of MUC5AC in CRC progression and drug resistance remains obscure. METHODS: MUC5AC expression was determined in colon tissue microarray by immunohistochemistry. A RNA interference and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated system was used to knockdown/knockout the MUC5AC in CRC cell lines to delineate its role in CRC tumorigenesis using in vitro functional assays and in vivo (sub-cutaneous and colon orthotopic) mouse models. Finally, CRC cell lines and xenograft models were used to identify the mechanism of action of MUC5AC. RESULTS: Overexpression of MUC5AC is observed in CRC patient tissues and cell lines. MUC5AC expression resulted in enhanced cell invasion and migration, and decreased apoptosis of CRC cells. MUC5AC interacted with CD44 physically, which was accompanied by the activation of Src signaling. Further, the presence of MUC5AC resulted in enhanced tumorigenesis and appearance of metastatic lesions in orthotopic mouse model. Additionally, up-regulation of MUC5AC resulted in resistance to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and oxaliplatin, and its knockout increased sensitivity to these drugs. Finally, we observed that up-regulation of MUC5AC conferred resistance to 5-FU through down-regulation of p53 and its target gene p21 and up-regulation of β-catenin and its target genes CD44 and Lgr5. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that differential expression of secretory mucin MUC5AC results in enhanced tumorigenesis and also confers chemoresistance via CD44/β-catenin/p53/p21 signaling
