Force user's manual: A portable, parallel FORTRAN
The use of Force, a parallel, portable FORTRAN on shared memory parallel computers is described. Force simplifies writing code for parallel computers and, once the parallel code is written, it is easily ported to computers on which Force is installed. Although Force is nearly the same for all computers, specific details are included for the Cray-2, Cray-YMP, Convex 220, Flex/32, Encore, Sequent, Alliant computers on which it is installed
Force user's manual, revised
A methodology for writing parallel programs for shared memory multiprocessors has been formalized as an extension to the Fortran language and implemented as a macro preprocessor. The extended language is known as the Force, and this manual describes how to write Force programs and execute them on the Flexible Computer Corporation Flex/32, the Encore Multimax and the Sequent Balance computers. The parallel extension macros are described in detail, but knowledge of Fortran is assumed
Supersolid and solitonic phases in one-dimensional Extended Bose-Hubbard model
We report our findings on quantum phase transitions in cold bosonic atoms in
a one dimensional optical lattice using the finite size density matrix
renormalization group method in the framework of the extended Bose-Hubbard
model. We consider wide ranges of values for the filling factors and the
nearest neighbor interactions. At commensurate fillings, we obtain two
different types of charge density wave phases and a Mott insulator phase.
However, departure from commensurate fillings yield the exotic supersolid phase
where both the crystalline and the superfluid orders coexist. In addition, we
obtain signatures for solitary waves and also superfluidity.Comment: 7 pages, 11 figure
Diagnosing haemophagocytic syndrome
Haemophagocytic syndrome, or haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), is a hyperinflammatory disorder characterised by uncontrolled activation of the immune system. It can result from mutations in multiple genes involved in cytotoxicity or occur secondary to a range of infections, malignancies or autoimmune rheumatic diseases. In the latter case, it is also known as macrophage activation syndrome (MAS). Characteristic features are persistent fever, hepatosplenomegaly, petechial/purpuric rash, progressive cytopenias, coagulopathy, transaminitis, raised C reactive protein, falling erythrocyte sedimentation rate, hypertriglyceridaemia, hypofibrinogenaemia and extreme hyperferritinaemia often associated with multi-organ impairment. Distinguishing HLH from systemic sepsis can present a major challenge. Criteria for diagnosis and classification of HLH and MAS are available and a serum ferritin >10 000 µg/L is strongly supportive of HLH. Without early recognition and appropriate treatment, HLH is almost universally fatal. However, with prompt referral and advancements in treatment over the past two decades, outcomes have greatly improved.</jats:p

A GIT interpretration of the Harder-Narasimhan filtration
An unstable torsion free sheaf on a smooth projective variety gives a GIT
unstable point in certain Quot scheme. To a GIT unstable point, Kempf
associates a "maximally destabilizing" 1-parameter subgroup, and this induces a
filtration of the torsion free sheaf. We show that this filtration coincides
with the Harder-Narasimhan filtration.Comment: 19 pages; Comments of the referees and references added. The

Organization and Running of the First Comprehensive Hereditary Cancer Clinic in India
Hereditary cancers are thought to account for around 5% of cancers, particularly breast/ovarian and colorectal cancers. In India there is a paucity of data on hereditary cancers and the mutations in some of the common genes linked to hereditary cancers, such as BRCA1, BRCA2, hMSH2 and hMLH1. The country's first comprehensive hereditary cancer clinic was established in February 2002. The article describes the organization and running of the Clinic. It also discusses some of the social issues relevant to the given population in running the Hereditary Cancer Clinic

Frobenius Splittings
We give a gentle introduction to Frobenius splittings. Then we recall a few
results that have been obtained with the method.Comment: 21 pages, typos correcte
