Analysis of performance parameters of the smash in male and female professional padel
The aim of this study was to analyze the distribution and effectiveness of the different types of smash in professional padel according to the area and direction of the strokes and the gender. Through systematic observation, 1.015 smashes from eight finals (four men’s and four women’s) of the professional matches were analyzed. The smashes were categorized into four types of smash: tray, flat, topspin and off the wall. The results showed both men’s and women’s that the tray is the most used smash by padel players, presenting a percentage of point continuity of almost 90%. The flat and topspin smashes are the strokes that achieve the highest percentage of winning points (near 60%), although this efficiency decreases significantly when the players move away from the net area (p < 0.05), especially in the flat smash. Men perform a higher percentage of winning smashes than women, mainly in the flat smash (p = 0.02). Furthermore, with regards to direction, flat and off the wall smashes are predominantly down the line strokes and women perform significantly more cross court topspin smashes than men (p = 0.005). The results shown could be used to design tasks and exercises by padel coaches at professional players
Influence of No-Ad Scoring in Temporal Strcuture and Matches’ Outcome in Professional Padel
The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of “no-ad scoring” rule on the temporal and outcome variables on professional World Padel Tour, depending on the gender and the tournament round. A total of 24 matches corresponding to the final phase of the Marbella Master 2019 (N = 12), which was played with advantages, and the Marbella Master 2020(N = 12), which were played with no-ad scoring, were analyzed. The variables analyzed were: gender, tournament round, set duration, number of games per set, number of break points, number of breaks made and equality of the set. Resultsshowed that the use of no-ad scoring in professional padel produced a significant increase in the number of breaks.Furthermore, although the duration of the set decreased slightly, the number of games per set increased, but thedifferences were not significant. No differences were found in any of the variables related to the temporal structure andoutcome between men and women. Regarding the tournament round, significantly higher values were observed in gameduration and number of games from the semifinals. These data can be useful to coaches and players when designingstrategies for the dispute of these deciding points.
This study aimed to analyse serve statistics in elite padel players regarding court side and gender, and its relation to strategy and golden point. The sample contained 445 serves from 8 matches (4 male and 4 female) of the 2020 Masters Finals World Padel Tour. Variables related to serve (number, direction, court side and effectiveness), with the strategy (traditional or Australian) and with golden point were registered though systematic observation. Results showed differences according to gender and court side were found. Female players serve more to the center of the court (“T”) than men. In right side of the court, players serve more to the “T” when they use Australian strategy, comparing to left side. 15% more serves to the side wall are realized on the left side than the right, regardless of the serve strategy. Regarding golden point, the service players won 12% more point than when it was not a decisive point. Such knowledge may constitute a useful guide in the design of appropriate game strategies and specific-training session based on actual competition contextSin financiaciĂłnNo data JCR 2021No data SJR 20210.321 IDR (2020) C3, 25/43 Deport
