Objective: Acalypha communis is a synonym of Ricinocarpus communis (Müll.Arg.) belonging to the family of Euphorbiaceae. A. communis possess awide variety of activities like antimicrobial. Hence, the present study was intended to evaluate ethanolic leaf extract of A. communis for hepatoprotectiveactivities. Methods: The hepatoprotective activity was studied by paracetamol (2 g/kg) and D-galactosamine (400 mg/kg) induced models. Acute toxicity studyand preliminary phytochemical screening were also studied to evaluate the toxicity. Results: No toxicity profile was observed in rats after oral administration of the ethanolic leaf extract at the dose of 5 g/kg body weight. Thedifferent dose of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg administered with the extract of A. communis. There was significant (p<0.001) reduction in biochemicalparameters with respect to control. Phytochemical screening of the plant extract revealed the presence of tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids and saponins, and terpenoids. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the hepatoprotective activity elucidated by A. communis could be mainly due to the presences of high-value classof compound like the phenolic group as the major content in the plants. Keywords: Acalypha communis, Paracetamol, D-galactosamine, Biochemical parameters and histopathological studies

Power System Stability Enhancement and Improvement of LVRT Capability of a DFIG Based Wind Power System by Using SMES and SFCL

This paper proposes a exhaustive study about the performance analysis of Doubly Fed Induction (DFIG) under abnormal condition. Now a days, majority of power network countenance the problem of over current and grid connectivity issues. SFCL (Superconducting Fault Current Limiter), which have the competence to limit the fault current and protect the equipments from damage. SMES (Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage) is mainly used to compensate both real and reactive power variations, thus power quality can be enhanced. Co-ordinated operation of SFCL - SMES thus used to enhance the power system stability and improve the LVRT (Low Voltage Ride Through) capability of wind power generation systems. LVRT capability of wind turbine is refers to the ability of wind power system to conquer the voltage variations if there is any unwanted conditions. Here DFIG based wind turbine plant is used for consideration, because it will provide smoothened power output nearly double than a conventional generator. And it have more simple and rugged construction also.   Design of DFIG based wind power generation systems under fault condition with the help of SMES and SFCL is analysed   by means of MATLAB/SIMULINK block set.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i5.338

The orientation number of three complete graphs with linkages

For a graph G, let D(G) be the set of all strong orientations of G. The orientation number of G is d~(G) = min{d(D)|D ∈ D(G)}, where d(D) denotes the diameter of the digraph D. In this paper, we consider the problem of determining the orientation number of three complete graphs with linkages.Publisher's Versio

An Analysis of Disability in The Little Mermaid: Examining Disparities and Similarities in the Fairytale and Its Movie Adaptation

    Get PDF
Differences and disabilities have always been a part of oral tradition and folklore. These differences greatly influenced story-telling that eventually stemmed from oral tradition. The western canon has included disability in their literature for some time now, but their portrayal of disability from the beginning to the twentieth century has drastically improved. Fairytales and folktales were historically associated with values and morals, and the moral system during the olden times was completely patriarchal and abelistic. The tales never offered any space for disability to exist as a simple part of an individual's life. This paper aims to investigate the representation of disability in Disney's version of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale, "The Little Mermaid", and attempts to understand disability in the light of fairytales. There are some major and vital differences between the original story by Hans Christian and the movie by Disney, but do they accommodate positive signals that counteract the ableist society? Does the movie reflect the truth about a disabled person's life? Or is it still a profusion of negative elements that reinforce oppression and discrimination? This paper examines the narratives employed in the movie and the original fairy tale and attempts to address the issues of identity, stigma, and stereotypes based on the representation of disability in both genres

Neutrino oscillation probabilities: Sensitivity to parameters

    Get PDF
We study in detail the sensitivity of neutrino oscillation probabilities to the fundamental neutrino parameters and their possible determination through experiments. The first part of the paper is devoted to the broad theme of isolating regions in the neutrino (and anti-neutrino) energy and propagation length that are sensitive to the oscillation parameters. Such a study is relevant to neutrinos both from the Earth's atmosphere or from a neutrino factory. For completeness we discuss the sensitivity, however small, to the parameters involved in a three-generation framework, and to the Earth matter density profile. We then study processes relevant to atmospheric neutrinos which are sensitive to and allow precision measurements of the mixing angle theta_23 and mass-squared difference delta_32 apart from the mixing angle theta_13. Crucial to this analysis is charge identification; detectors having this capability can isolate these matter effects. In particular, we address the issue of using matter effects to determine whether the mixing angle theta_23 is maximal, and, if not, to explore how well its octant can be determined. When realistic detector resolutions are included, we find that deviations of about 15% (20%) from a maximal value of sin^2 theta_23=1/2 can be measured at 95% (99%) CL provided theta_13 is non-zero, sin^2 theta_13 >= 0.015, and the neutrino mass ordering is normal, with fairly large exposures of 1000 kton-years.Comment: 37 pages Latex file, 30 eps figure files; minor typos fixe

Threshold Effects on Quasi-degenerate Neutrinos with High-scale Mixing Unification

We consider threshold effects on neutrino masses and mixings in a recently proposed model for understanding large solar and atmospheric mixing angles using radiative magnification for the case of quasi-degenerate neutrinos. We show that the magnitude of the threshold effects is sufficient to bring concordance between the predictions of this model and latest data from KamLAND{\rm KamLAND} and SNO{\rm SNO} on observations of neutrino oscillations.Comment: Four pages, no figure
