The effect of partial substitution of chloride by bromide in the 0-D hybrid material (C4H12N2)[CuCl4]center dot 2H(2)O: Structural, vibrational, thermal, in silico and biological characterizations

International audienceA new organic-inorganic hybrid material with copper(II) as the transition metal, piperazine as the organic component and mixed bromide/chloride as halide ions, (C4H12N2)[CuBr4](0.42)[CuCl4](0.58)center dot 2H(2)O (1), has been prepared and crystallographically investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Unlike the parent chloride or bromide-based materials which adopt the monoclinic system, this mixed halide hybrid material crystallizes in the space group Pnma of the orthorhombic system with the following parameters: a = 12.3496(6) angstrom, b = 16.3147(11) angstrom, c = 6.4415(3) angstrom, V = 1397.83(12) angstrom(3) and Z = 4. Its 0-D crystal packing is built of isolated entities, a copper(II) ion surrounded by four chloride/bromide ions [CuBr4](2-) and [CuCl4](2-), a diprotonated diamine (C4H12N2)(2+) and free water molecules. Additionally, these entities are linked through different types of intermolecular hydrogen bonds N-H horizontal ellipsis Br, N-H horizontal ellipsis Cl, N-H horizontal ellipsis Ow, Ow-H horizontal ellipsis Br, Ow-H horizontal ellipsis Cl, and weak non-covalent interactions C-H horizontal ellipsis Br and C-H horizontal ellipsis Cl [Ow = water oxygen]. The thermal decomposition of the precursor proceeds through four stages leading to copper(II) oxide as a final product. The title compound possesses antimicrobial and anti-tumoral effects comparable to two previously described compounds, as assessed by in silico examinations. Compound 1 inhibited in a dose dependent manner, the proliferation of gram negative and positive bacteria and exhibited a microbial lipase inhibition from Candida rugosa

Elementary and efficient catalyst process for the Knoevenagel condensation of araldehydes with arylmethylidene malononitrile

A comparative study of the Knoevenagel condensation of an aromatic aldehyde with an active methylene compound (e.g., malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate), using solvent free grindstone conditions and microwave irradiation is reported. Our solvent free approaches led these reactions to proceed faster, more cleanly and in higher yields. Moreover, they also allowed the use of nitrobenzaldehydes, which failed to yield the desired products under traditional and water based approaches. Thus, an efficient procedure for the Knoevenagel condensation of aryl and heteroaromatic aldehydes with malononitrile. using the complex [CdNa2(mu-L-2)](n)center dot 6.34H(2)O or commercial CdO as catalyst under solvent-free and very mild conditions has been developed. Reaction of sodium (E/Z)-2-(2-(1-cyano-2-methoxy-2-oxoethylidene) hydrazinyl) benzene-sulfonate (NaHL) with copper(II) nitrate hydrate in the presence of imidazole (im) in methanol affords [CuL(im)(H2O)] (1). Complex 1 is characterized by IR spectroscopy and ESI-MS spectrometry, elemental and single crystal X-ray crystal structural analyses. The coordination environment of the central copper(II) is nearly intermediate between ideal square-based pyramidal and trigonal bipyramidal geometry, three sites being occupied by the L2- ligand, which chelates in the O, N, O fashion, while two other sites are filled with the water and imidazole molecules. Extensive intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the L2-, water and imidazole ligands lead to a 3D supramolecular network. 1 and known Cu(II) complexes [Cu(H2O)(2)L]center dot H2O (2), [Cu(H2O)(py)L]center dot H2O (3) and [Cu-3(mu(3)-OH)(NO3)(CH3OH)(mu(2)-X)(3)(mu(2)-HL)] (4) act as effective catalysts in the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone, using low power microwave (MW) irradiation, under mild conditions. Without a promoter, the activity of the catalyst reached a turnover number of 1.44 x 10(3) and a turnover frequency of 1.98 x 10(3) h(-1), after 2 h, at 50 degrees C. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. Specific immune responses in mice following subchronic exposure to acetamiprid

International audienceAIMS: Acetamiprid (ACE) is an insecticide of the neonicotinoid family, the most widely used in the world. Herein, we assessed the effect of ACE on either the humoral or cellular immune responses of rodents. We also evaluated the role of curcumin in the restoration of altered immune responses after ACE treatment.METHODS: Five groups of five Swiss Albino mice were immunized intraperitoneally with the recombinant form of CFP32, a virulence factor of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. One group received ACE (5mg/kg) during 61days, a second one received ACE associated with curcumin (100mg/kg). Three control groups were included; one untreated, the second received corn oil and the third received curcumin alone. The humoral immune response was assessed by ELISA testing the anti-rCFP32 antibody concentrations in the serum. The cellular immune response was assessed by analyzing the cellular proliferation of the splenocytes stimulated in vitro by a mitogen or rCFP32.RESULTS: The ACE-treated mice showed a significant immunosuppression of the specific humoral response with a restorative effect of curcumin when administered with ACE. Similarly, ACE significantly decreased the level of splenocyte proliferation after either a non specific or a specific activation. Curcumin partially restores the antigen specific cellular immune response. Moreover, when administered alone, curcumin significantly inhibits the proliferative responses to the mitogen confirming its anti-mitogenic effect. Histological analysis showed alteration of spleens of mice exposed to ACE.SIGNIFICANCE: Altogether, our data indicated that ACE could potentially be harmful to the immune system

Computer-Assisted Classification Patterns in Autoimmune Diagnostics: The AIDA Project

Antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) are significant biomarkers in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases in humans, done by mean of Indirect ImmunoFluorescence (IIF) method, and performed by analyzing patterns and fluorescence intensity. This paper introduces the AIDA Project (autoimmunity: diagnosis assisted by computer) developed in the framework of an Italy-Tunisia cross-border cooperation and its preliminary results. A database of interpreted IIF images is being collected through the exchange of images and double reporting and a Gold Standard database, containing around 1000 double reported images, has been settled. The Gold Standard database is used for optimization of a CAD (Computer Aided Detection) solution and for the assessment of its added value, in order to be applied along with an Immunologist as a second Reader in detection of autoantibodies. This CAD system is able to identify on IIF images the fluorescence intensity and the fluorescence pattern. Preliminary results show that CAD, used as second Reader, appeared to perform better than Junior Immunologists and hence may significantly improve their efficacy; compared with two Junior Immunologists, the CAD system showed higher Intensity Accuracy (85,5% versus 66,0% and 66,0%), higher Patterns Accuracy (79,3% versus 48,0% and 66,2%), and higher Mean Class Accuracy (79,4% versus 56,7% and 64.2%)
