    The incidents media portrays are generally accepted bylayman blindly. It is important to realize that everything we see is not necessarily true and therefore, truth is not a universal term as it varies from person to person. This paper focuses on the analysis of Intertexuality and Assumption in two news items by two different newspapers (one item per newspaper) covering the same news event. The data are analyzed through CDA (Critical Discourse Analysis). The analyzed data reveal that the realities created by Al Jazeera News and The Haaretz News covering the Freedom Flotilla incident are very different from each other, and the Haaretz news reporting presents political and social bias in favor of Israel/ whereas, Al Jazeera’s news report is more authentic and presents a holistic picture of the event

    Comparing Traditional Teaching Method and Experiential Teaching Method using Experimental Research

    The modern time is shaping a world of opportunities that has glorified the roleand functions of multinational organizations across the globe. An individual hasbecome a global citizen, who explores employment opportunities in differentcountries of the world. This has signified the importance of interpersonal skills that allow individuals to connect with people from different cultures. As a result, the role of business communication instructors has become vital because they impart the skills of communication among their students. For this, instructors’ sensitivity towards the teaching methods used in classrooms are of prime significance. These methods determine the interest level and motivation of students towards learning and acquisition of communication skills. Therefore, this study aims to compare experiential learning method and traditional learning method to explore which method inculcates and improves the communication skills of business administration students of a private sector university. The study was conducted in a quantitative paradigm using an experimental research design. The sample size comprised 60 BBA students from two different sections of business communication courses. The data were collected using a pretest and posttest. For the pretest, communication skills were imparted to both the groups using the traditional teaching method that heavily employed lecturing. For the posttest, the controlled group was taught using the same traditional teaching method while the treatment group was taught using the experiential learning method. Mean scores 20.46 & 19.90 with a significant value of 0.375 for the pretest established identical nature of both groups. Mean scores 27.80 & 30.36 with a significant value of .002 of posttest showed that the two groups under study had different identities in scores, which proved that experiential learning method improves students’ communication skills better than traditional communication skills.Keywords: business communication, experiential learning, experimental research, traditional learnin

    Anxiety Level in Students of Public Speaking: Causes and Remedies

    Despite being competent in their field of work, professional’s worldwide struggle due to lack of good public speaking skills. Their assessments and appraisals are often not depictive of their professional competitiveness; therefore, it is important for students to overcome public speaking anxiety before they transit from academic life to professional life. The purpose of this study is to analyze the reasons behind the anxiety level in undergraduate students of a public speaking class and recommend strategies to overcome this fear. This study was entailed quantitative research paradigm on a sample of 50 students using convenience sampling technique from a reputable private sector business school in Karachi. The findings showed that students who fear public speaking can perform well if they use certain strategies to fight their fears. 75% participants admitted their fear of public speaking and 95% participants agreed that if proper counseling, instruction and coaching is provided, this fear can be overcome. Research revealed that exposure to virtual environment can facilitate student confidence and enables themto face audience irrespective of the size

    This study aims to investigate how Prescribed ELT Textbooks can be exploited to enhance students' reading comprehension of intermediates first year class in an educational institute. This research brings broader understanding of strategies to use ELT textbooks more effectively for teaching English Reading Comprehension skills to students. The rationale of the study stems from the need that teaching strategies for reading comprehension lead to increased awareness and use of the strategies which helps improve performance on commonly used comprehension measures. The methodology adopted will be Action Research which lies within the paradigms of Qualitative research and the results will be reflected through the analysis of class observations, field-notes, students' answer scripts, reflective journal and feedback through group interviews from the students.
