    Day time variations in noise levels at major crossings of Jammu city, India

    The present study has been carried to assess Equivalent noise level (Leq), Noise climate (NC), Traffic noise index (TNI) and Day Time Average Noise level from7.00 A.M. to 9.00 P.M (Ld) at eleven major crossings of Jammu City. The Leq and Ld values at all the sites were observed to be above permissible limits prescribed by CPCB. The calculated values of Ld at all the sites were observed to be statistically significant at 0.05 (5%) level of significance (p=0.000-0.004)

    A Rare Case of Primary Mucinous Cystadenoma of Spleen

    Mucinous cystadenomas are relatively uncommon benign cystic tumors. Most of them are found in the ovary, pancreas, and appendix. Primary mucinous cystadenoma of spleen is extremely rare and only countable cases have been recorded. These are assumed to arise from heterotopic pancreatic tissue or invaginated spleenic capsular mesothelium. We present a rare case of primary mucinous cystadenoma of spleen without pancreatic tissue in it. Exact tissue of origin could not be determined

    Acute fulminant necrotizing amoebic colitis: a rare and fatal complication of amoebiasis: a case report

    Acute Fulminant Necrotizing Amoebic Colitis is a rare complication of amoebiasis that is associated with high mortality. Only one to four such cases are seen per year in large hospitals of India, and only few such cases have been reported in the literature. The condition requires early diagnosis and surgical intervention. We recently cared for a patient who presented with acute abdomen with history of intermittent abdominal pain and diarrhea. Before presenting to our institution he was misdiagnosed as a case of inflammatory bowel disease and had been treated with steroids. On emergency exploration, extensive necrosis and multiple perforations in retroperitoneum involving entire colon were seen. Total colectomy with ileostomy was performed. Postoperative course was marked by septicaemia and multi-organ failure followed by death. This case report emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of acute FAC, and associated high mortality

    NEUROPROTECTIVE AND COGNITIVE ENHANCING EFFECT OF METHANOLIC MORUS ALBA LEAF FRACTION IN U87MG CELL LINES AND EXPERIMENTAL RAT MODEL

    Objective: The present study aims to investigate the protective effect of methanol fraction of Morus alba (MEMA) leaves against hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced U87MG cell toxicity and aluminum fluoride (ALF)-induced rat toxicity. Methods: The study was divided into in vitro and in vivo sections. U87MG cell lines were pre-treated with different fractions of MEMA for 20 h and further tested against 1000 ϻM of H2O2. The best fraction from in vitro studies was used to study the protective effects against ALF-induced neurotoxicity. Rats were divided i nto five different groups, and MEMA (200 and 400 mg/kg p.o) was administered for 14 days to the animals with α-tocopherol as the standard drug treatment. Behavioral studies were assessed using Barnes maze. The major biochemical measurements included catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione reductase, lipid peroxidation (LPO), and acetylcholinesterase (AchE) levels. Results: In vitro studies indicated MEMA as a potential candidate followed by AQMA and ethyl acetate. The MEMA fraction was able to ameliorate ALF-induced neurotoxicity in the behavioral assessment. The higher antioxidant content in the fraction decreased the LPO levels from 250±4.07 to 115±3.22 as well as elevated the levels of most of the endogenous antioxidant enzyme levels. AchE levels were also decreased to 33.89±0.71 from 38.94±0.64. Conclusion: Although the results obtained indicate that MEMA could significantly suppress oxidative stress-induced central neuronal damage both in vitro and in vivo, further mechanistic studies are required to delineate its neuroprotective pathway

    Modeling and sensitivity analysis of grid-connected hybrid green microgrid system

    The demonstrated research work analyses the technoeconomic modelling and sensitivity analysis of the available resources for the rural community in India. The various resources used in this study are solar, wind, hydro, battery and utility grid-connected system. The usefulness of the on-grid system in the rural sector is that excess amount of electricity produced through renewable energy sources (RES) could be sold back to the utility grid. A total of 12 possible configurations of various resources with and without a grid-connected system was analyzed for minimum Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) and Total Net Present Cost (TNPC). Further, sensitivity analysis is accomplished for different sensitive variables to understand the nature of the system for wider application in rural communities. The solar-wind-hydro-based utility grid-connected network is observed to be the best optimal configuration with a minimum value of LCOE of 0.056 $/kWh. The simulation results reveal that the effective utilization of RES has been a cost-efficient and reliable system to the power supply in remote communities

    Assessment of Soil Fertility Status in Rupani Rural Municipality, Saptari, Nepal

    As soil fertility is one of the most important factors for soil productivity, soil fertility management is important for sustainable soil management. This study was conducted to determine the soil fertility status of Rupani Rural Municipality, Saptari, Nepal. A total of 60 soil samples were collected randomly from 0-30 cm depth. The exact location of the samples was recorded using a handheld GPS device. All collected samples were analyzed at a regional soil testing laboratory in Saptari to determine their pH, soil texture, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and organic matter status. In addition, fertility status maps were prepared using ArcGIS 10.8 software. The study area consists mainly of 51.66% clay and 18.33% sandy loam soils. The soil pH ranged from highly acidic to slightly alkaline, with pH values ranging from 4.5 to 8.0. Soil organic matter (0.42-3.21%), nitrogen (0.02-0.16%), available phosphorus (40.1-282.35 kg P2O5/ha) and exchangeable potassium (64.8-729.6 kg K2O/ha) are present in the soil with the status of low to high in the study area. In order to improve crop potential and maintain soil nutrient status through the use of site-specific fertilizers, a reduction in the use of chemical fertilizers and various sustainable soil management practices were adopted. This research provides valuable information to policymakers, farmers, and agricultural stakeholders, facilitating evidence-based decision-making for agricultural development and food security in Rupani Rural Municipality, Saptari, Nepal
